Community is viewed by some as just wanting to show off your garden. But for many gardeners they design to delight others as that gives them joy to make passers by smile.
I love the community power. My veggie garden is in my large front yard. I had to fence it against the deer and was helped by my son, grandson, and neighbors to build it. I am 80 and not all that powerful any more. LOL The beauty of it is that during this pandemic more people are walking the neighborhood and watching my garden "progress". I've met so many new people. I have other neighbors who also help me with various tasks. I am hoping to put up a sign called "Gordon's Neighborhood Project" and naming a few of the contributors. I sit behind the fence with my coffee and enjoy whatever is happening in the garden and greeting those early walkers. It is truly a delight.
You know how I know Linda’s a good egg! She doesn’t take herself too seriously! Humble enough not to make her fan curiosity all about her like many on the internet tend to do. Also considerate enough to take the extra time to satisfy that curiosity. And of course such a great presenter as well! Fashion epilogue! You have a way with words👏🏻🥰🥳
While working in the garden this morning I was thinking of the difference between gardens and landscaped property. There is a difference between a well designed yard with little maintenance and a true gardener's paradise, ever changing, labor of love. I much prefer my imperfect gardens any day.

I never thought of wearing my back brace when I garden until now. Every time I've hurt my back, it was usually from not using good mechanics, bending over to pull weeds, reaching and bending with my heavy-duty pruners. I'm going to start stretching too before I work in the yard. I was almost tempted to use the ladder to prune some tree limbs recently and that little voice said "no, no, bad idea, don't do it Kim." Thanks for the reminder! Good thing you were watching him, you're a good neighbor!
Mindfulness in gardening. My balance isn't what is used to be and the consequences much higher and more of a hassle! Climbing in a small rockery is where I have to slow down (I hate doing that)and think about how to move around. I have some of the superpowers but design is not one of my strengths. I have to learn by seeing/watching you and others! 💚
Consistency. What a great way to start the day. Curiosity. What needs some research. Delight. Revel in enjoy your space. Common sense. Let go of the impatience and be smart. Composition and color. Magic of 3. Harmony. Community and context. Sharing and respectful.

Hello Linda from Melbourne Australia 🦜🦘🦘🦘🦜 I found your presentation so interesting and motivational I have been gardening for years and am learning all the time I find now, I’m 71 that I can’t work in the garden for as long or as hard as before and need rests in between I have a area under shelter that I propagate cuttings from my gardening group and also make succulent containers gardens that I sometimes gift The garden has been my saving grace during the past year of prolonged lockdowns due to COVID-19 Thanks for valuable ideas and reminders and keep safe and happy ❤️❤️❤️

My gardening attire is quite similar to yours; old leggings, jeans, t shirts and a pair of vinyl sandals I don’t mind getting wet. Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray! I especially like the consistency and community tips. I’m looking at my plants everyday and I am considerate of my neighbors and that what I do doesn’t affect them or their yard. One of my neighbors sprayed a herbicide trying to kill Virginia Creeper and it drifted into my yard and nearly killed my cannas. The creeper is still there, but the neighbors moved!

I am a new Gardner starting out small with some perennial foundation shrubs. I google constantly for information on pruning, fertilizing, blooming cycles, watering, insect/disease control, et al.
Me too..I now use 85 %pots..I paint them .After that they will be LOOKING OLD and dirty 🤣🤣🤣After downsizing ,my yard is small now .but nevertheless , almost the same work.I will always love it...but have to make it easier .

Tout ce que vous dites est juste. Malheureusement, pour moi, c’est un plaisir non partagé par mes voisins. Aucun n’aime jardiner, et aucun ne comprend pourquoi j’y passe tellement de temps…donc c’est un plaisir solitaire et intérieur. Concevoir et entretenir des massifs harmonieux, se tromper parfois et recommencer est un bonheur quotidien.

Oh yes and I was late to QVC so could only get your large basket and artichoke which are both quite lovely and super well made and shipped quickly. Now displayed in my garden. I was surprised to see a tray included with the basket! They are both my favorite things in the garden !!!!!!👍👍👍

I know it doesn’t start with a C but I think flexibility is my #1 super power. You kind of touched on that with the point about moving pots out of the blistering heat, but it’s also the ability to pivot when you see something isn’t working - whether it’s a plant that you just can’t seem to grow (i’m looking at YOU eggplant 👀), or giving up on a brand when you realize their product is simply too inconsistent to depend on (in looking at YOU Kellogg’s Organic Patio Plus soil 👀). That last one breaks my heart, honestly. I think flexibility has saved me more headaches than any other skill. :) Also, you touched on color and I noticed this week that I keep choosing purple varieties. Looking at this video, I’m gonna blame that on you, if that’s okay. 😏

Love this video!! I have the same back issue and never thought of a back brace. I really hurt when I vacuum, too, but, My husband won't take that chore over. LOL. The man on the ladder..... is lucky you were near and that he didn't hurt himself worse. My husband and I each had a friend (ironically around the same time) that fell off the roof and fell on their head. SO sad... We do not climb on ladders any more (being 70 and 72). Great tips. This was wonderful, Linda. Probably one of my favourite - it could be because these are all superpowers we already do in the garden but without realising their importance. You verbalised and articulated the seven points in a way that made it very educational - and you provided relevant examples which made it relatable and identifiable in my own garden. Consistency was a great point to begin with, as I know that when life interferes there are many corners of my garden that I have missed. Your fashion epilogue was cute. I keep seeing similar ‘drama’ references commented on my favorite gardening channels, but I gotta be honest - I’m not seeing any. All I ever see are folks who are ridiculously generous with their advice and thoughtful commentary on the videos. I really wish I knew what y’all were talking about so I knew what/who to avoid...
Speaking of composition, I would add, it's okay to change your mind. My hydrangea garden is evolving since I started it last season. I will move some shrubs to make space for 3 'Queen of Sweden' David Austin roses and a couple more hydrangeas I picked up this week ('Limelight' and 'Quickfire'). I noticed someone's been digging near several rootballs of added plants or recently transplanted ones. I sure hope it isn't voles. Oh, I just remembered, I have Repels-All. Let's see if it lives up to its name.
There’s one more “C” - Cash! Yes there are free plants - passalongs, divisions, cuttings. But mulch, fertilizer, etc. and new plants are expensive. And the water bill lol. Still, it’s a glorious money pit, and I’m grateful for my garden. As ever, I enjoy your posts when I take a break from gardening. Thank you! 💙🦋💙
Ok I got the basket but of course they sent it to my mothers address who use to live with us at our old house in Georgia. (She passed 3 years ago she was an avid gardener at one time)Fortunately my daughter’s family purchased that house from us. They called to say there is a big package here for Grandma? Anyway they opened it up and of course it was your beautiful basket. They said it was really nice so next time I am over there I will pick it up and bring it to my garden. So I contacted QVC and they are sending me another one in my name to my address here in Alabama. I have had them cancel her account and I opened a brand new account so I can purchase more of your beautiful garden accessories. ❤️

Wonderful tips. My limitation is being careful in the heat of summer. I can get overheated so easily and it can sneak up on you. I need to be more consistent about getting outside early when we get hot. :)

We’ve had a bit of rain here in Sth Australia too and I have been unwell and let my clover get out of hand compared to your little bits. My plants are all young and I am afraid to pour boiling water over the clover which has gone wild close to my tiny snowball viburnums, roses (some just new bare root), salvia and kangaroo paw. I’m afraid it may also kill these young plants ... is pulling it all out by hand my only option?
I think I'm going to try the hot water for weeds. I have been using just white vinegar because by the end of the day the weed is dead and it's non-toxic to people and animals. But I constantly run out and when I run out of hot water, all I have to do is go heat more up. So thanks for the tip.
Can you do a video talking about how a garden space changes over the seasons? I’m a new gardener, in zone 7b, and have no idea about how to space my plants, and what happens to that space when a perennial dies down over the winter. That front garden area is so full right now, but what happens to it in other seasons? Thank you! Ps. Enjoying the fashion bits at the end.
