I have to wonder how a S&W showed up in a "cheap" revolver lineup. However, I saw another similar video where they included both a S&W and a Colt, as well as KIMBER in the "budget" revolvers. I guess my idea of "cheap" or "budget" runs on the lower side than most...
Just ordered the 856 defender the ultra-lite 17.4 ounces. With Cor-bond or Underwood ammo being high velocity it's more than enough for me to put shots on target with ease. Gotta hand it to Taurus, Rossi and Charter arms in stepping up their game even the diamondnack birdshead has got me drooling.
I bought a Taurus 605 defender about a year ago. What a well build firearm and came with the night sights which was an added bonus I didn't expect at the 400 price point.
Some if these really are not bad. Charter is reliable with a lot of options. I have never had any issue with any of my Taurus revolvers. Granted, no where close fit, finish and trigger to a S&W or Ruger. My issue, I'd never, ever recommend a snub nose to any shooter that are not revolver competent. Snubbies are not easy to shoot, and shoot accurately. It takes a lot of lead down range to be effective over 8-10 feet with a snub. And I certainly wouldn't ever recommend anything without target sights. Same reasons as mentioned above.
I’ve carried the smith air weight with crimson trace laser for several years as my back up to my sig c3 and sig 365 . I switch between signs due to season and clothes worn . Plus the 45 is better for thicker clothes as compared to 9mm . Just my preference .
Armscor m206, heritage arms,, Rossi R351 used Ruger Smith& Wesson law enforcement trade INS are my go to when I am budget shopping. I have never had mechanical issues with Taurus I just don't like their rubber grips and spray paint finish
I know it costs a little bit mote, but the Ruger SP101 .357 S/S is a beautiful wheel gun. Thanks for the info, also have that Diamondback in the original sidekick model. That is a sweet deal!
I own the Charter Arms Mag Pug. Worked well for years and then the cylinder was out of alignment with the barral. Just enough to skin the outside of the bullet and throw frag into my face. I felt pin-pricks on my face and the range master stopped me and said that I had blood running down my cheeks. I sent it to the company and they returned it. I tested it and it seemed fine. About four boxes of ammo (over several months) and the cylinder would not rotate unless I shook the gun. I boxed it up and it has sat for a couple years as I am unable to ship it back to the company due to FEDEX and UPS going anti-gun on my.
The Smith 442 is the best overall here honestly. 38+p hot ammo is plentiful. They do take some training and not really the best for first time shooter. They smooth out after a few rounds and just get better. Train, train, train. Extra points for the Opinel knife in the video. 👍
I've got the 642 with the chunky Pachmayer diamond pro grips and she handles like a dream. Smooth as butter after changing the hammer spring and stoning the internals. Never a light primer strike either. I think I used the Wilson combat spring in her.
I had a opinel knife. Horrible little thing. It was always opening in my pocket and then cutting my hand when I stuck it in my pocket. The second time I threw it away.
I'M NOT GOING TO WATCH THIS VIDEO AS I KNOW I'M GOING TO DISAGREE. THEN READ THE COMMENTS AND GET EVEN MORE UPSET. HERE'S THE WAY I SEE IT. WHEN YOUR LIFE OR YOUR FAMILY'S LIFE IS ON THE LINE. NEVER LOOK TO SAVE MONEY AND GET A DEAL. WHEN IT COMES TO ITEMS THAT ARE OF NO IMPORTANCE THEN I SAY SURE. SPEND AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE ON YOUR GUNS, AMMUNITION, CLEANING EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING. IT MAY SAVE YOU LIFE ONE DAY. THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT. NOW DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.
I'm disappointed that the Rock Island internal hammer M206 didn't make the list. I absolutely love it. It shoots smoothly with hardly no recoil, which helps tremendously with accuracy. Excellent for concealment.
i love hammerless option revolvers, whats all out there on the cheaper end budget line , ? i am a u.s. marine vet here 93' to 97' active , thanks > tom !
Agreed. A six shot 38 Special that closely resembles the Colt Detective Special (Armscor says many parts are interchangeable), this revolver is one of my favorites.
@@robertkeller9828 rather go with a .357 revolver with wadcutter rounds , WAAAAAY more accurate than the spray n pray semi's , i am 51 yrs old n grew up with them , thanks > tom !
Yeah, but can you actually buy them? For the past two years, I've been trying to acquire a Taurus 942 .22 Mag revolver. All of the gun shops knew about the gun, didn't have any, and had no idea when, or if, they could get some.
I don't know, maybe people who want to hit what they're aiming at? Please explain how a red dot on an automatic performs any differently if it's on a revolver?
There is no need to put a red dot on a revolver. Anything that you're shooting that's thirty 30 ft. or less, it will make no difference between an iron sight and a red dot. Now granted some people will say that site acquisition is much quicker. But again at that short of a distance, which is what revolvers are made for, it's really not that big of a difference. At 10 yd you can pull your pistol from your hip and just shoot straight without even aiming with the sights, and you're going to hit the target. I do it all the time with my Ruger Wrangler 22 revolver. Playing like the OK corral. And I will pull it from my holster and shoot all five shots and hit center mass every time. Sometimes I even mess around and attempt to fan the hammer. LMAO 😂
I agree; aftermarket front sights are overrated for snub nose revolvers (imo)... The stock sights are perfectly fine for them, and are calibrated right. I can get in accurate shots with my snubbies out to 10, 15, even 20 yards - with no modifications to their front sights. Maybe this makes sense for longer barreled 'target revolvers', shooting at longer distances, but that's about it.
You're right, sir. Mixup98 video demonstrated that if you carry a snub nose revolver, you have to learn how to point shoot not only with one hand but also with your weak hand. I think he got a good point there like when someone attempts to stab and rob you in a dark alley where you have to immediately draw your revolver and won't even have time to look at your front sight at all. Seconds really count in a life and death situation.
Diamondback...hmmmm......22....for that price, I don't think so....Can do better that the price for that mag pug .357....looks like everything you're talking about is way over priced for "cheap" revolvers.......you may want to restudy your choices......I agree with RS RS - that Smith 442 / J frame sidearms are the best choice of the bunch. Other than that, this looks like an infomercial for Taurus.....not impressed.....
You lost me with the multiple Taurus options. I trust this assessment as much as I would trust Brett Favre with a welfare check. The Charter Arms pick is reliable and cost efficient, especially for a .357 caliber.
@@invictawarrior I'll take your word for it. I've had bad experiences with Taurus products jamming over multiple calibers. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.... I'll stick with the Charter Arms .357 I have
I've had two of the 605's. The first one I got for the wife to carry; she hated autos. That was probably 25 years ago. When she passed 11 years ago, my son asked for Moms gun. I couldn't say no. Within six months I was prowling gun shows looking for the same blue steel gun. I found a brand new, in box with all the papers. Both are good shooters.
I would suggest a 4" barrel, no shorter than 3" , you have to practice ALOT to be accurate with a shorter barrel, acquiring skill takes patient and practice, having a laser tuned in at 30ft will prove to be worth every penny . Learn safety and All the Laws in your area about self defense and remember there's a Lawyer attached to every bullet ! Get your self a small safe , Amazon will deliver it to your house , there are many to choose from, never let your Firearms fall into the wrong hands . Pointing a firearm at anyone other than someone trying to harm you is a felony, at a Police Officer is five years prison sentence automatic, ALWAYS identify with a hand held flashlight NOT a weapons light, again prison sentence .
Lone Ranger laser on a revolver at 30 ft lol The Smith J frame is 1 7/8" barrel is surprisingly accurate. Yeah 4" + is great for nightstand but not for carrying or BUG.
@Phoenixman You won't have any problems. There are many options for ammo to choose from and the +p will definitely be noticeable. The 442/642 are just under 2" and they are manageable with a lot of practice.
Don’t gamble with your life or your family with a cheap weapon. Spend the money. How much are your lives worth? Sorry but I’m in total disagreement here.
spend the money for brand name, because the words inscribed on the gun are what's important, even if the gun itself is the exact same as the cheap model.
Why are revolvers so expensive? Not a whole lot of new technology in revolvers not enough to justify the price. Is it the machinery involved, knowledge of revolvers, lack of gunsmith’s. You can damn near by two semiautomatics for the price of a revolver. I can’t believe they sale the damn things for the prices they ask. Taurus is getting there but they still don’t justify the price. I’ll stick with my semiautomatics, prices on them are getting stupid, I just don’t get the revolvers prices.
You would be surprised to find out that vintage Colt and Smith & Wesson revolvers are getting more expensive than brand new ones. I just saw a couple of older used Smith Model 36-3" and a Model 37-3" selling for more than a thousand dollars each. Same with a vintage Colt Agent snub nose. I went back to that same gun store a week later to buy some 22 target ammo and to my surprise, they were all sold out, according to the store clerk.
A REVOLVER WILL ALWAYS FIRE ! DROP IT, GET IT WET, OWN IT FOR 300 YEARS. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. I OWN BOTH. WHEN I WANT A SURE THING I REACH FOR MY Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum 4 inch barrel Pachmayr grips. Actually the first handgun I ever purchased when I was 18 years old. I just turned 61. I have more guns an ammo that I know what to do with.
