I didn't hate them but was severely disappointed they made up new characters instead of using Bebop & Rocksteady. Most of my friends thought looked rad too, some even thought they were cooler looking. But all agreed it sucked it wasn't Bebop & Rocksteady.
So, Judith Hoag complained about the movie being too violent so they didn't ask her back. But then they didn't let the Turtles use their weapons because it was too violent?
The way I understood it (which could be wrong) Judith Hoag complained about the violence during the filming of the first movie, and the decision to not bring her back was made before the decision to tone down the violence in the second one. On top of that, it seems like the violence was only one of the things she complained about. Again, I could be wrong, this is just how I'm interpreting the information I've heard.
@@explosionsandstuff7787 So in other words, Judith Hoag had a diva complex. And the movie studio wasnt going to put with her complaining, so they showed her the door.
@@IslandBoy-808 nope, it was a Golden Harvest production & she was complaining about the poor treatment of the stunt crew (which included Ernie Reyes Jr/Keno). Had nothing to do with being a diva.
Then they would had lost lots of money, risk go bankrupt. The movie reviewers would definately focus on the violence, making the parents refuse their kids to see the movie. Internet didnt exist back then and the morons started to multiply.
sounds about right, though i liked the second one as a kid, but yeah i think the trilogy could've been way better, sad to think about. same with the Matrix trilogy tbh
Trilogy!? Sheeeet Guarantee there would've been at least like five or six movies if it would've all been to the same tone as the first one. TMNT 90 was The number one independent film for nine years.
Super fun video, however, I hate to break it to you guys, but this video is incorrect, the turtles were not blind. They did not sew the eye holes shut in the masks, they just did a really good job of keeping them small. It was still extremely difficult to see, but it was possible.
Years of experience making these videos has showed me that conflicting versions of these stories sometimes exist. My research came from a 1991 NY Times article that can be found online where Leonardo’s stunt double Mark Caso tells about the eye holes being sewn shut. Does that make your version wrong? No, of course not. And if you can, please share your source to help add context to this thread. All of this is just another example of how it can be difficult to find the truth when more than one version of the story are out there.
@@FunFactFilms Totally appreciate your position and your work, your videos are a lot of fun. My source is me, I played Raphael in the film and worked very closely with Mark. Oftentimes, what makes it to the press is the reporter's version of the story they heard. Also, Mark was not Leo's stunt double, that was Larry Lam. Mark was the "actor turtle." Again, great job on your videos.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. It’s great to have you here to help clarify all of this, and I’ll pin the comment to make sure more eyes see this to know how it really happened.
@@FunFactFilms Hey, I don't want to undermine the video and effort you put into making it, if you want to delete my comments, I am totally cool with that, for some reason, I just felt a need to throw that out there. I've seen mistaken information go out before and I always want to jump up and say "It wasn't like that." However, relative to the other issues and challenges in the world, I don't know that standing up to correct your video is that important. : )
@@kennscott4019 Thank you for your compliments and sensitivity, Kenn, but I don't mind at all that you spoke up because to me these stories represent real people, and having your voice represented here is nice reminder of that, so I think it's great that you have helped clear up misconceptions.
Judith Hoag complained about the long shooting schedule. I think the ones who should complain were the actors in the turtle suits. Those turtle suits were extremely hot when worn. They would have puddles of sweat in their foot when they took them off.
That’s who she was fighting for. The people in the turtle suits were mostly from overseas and would be replaced for complaining. She was fighting for them because they didn’t have a voice and she was concerned for their well-being.
Another fun fact. Richard Divizio who was an actor in several of the Mortal Kombat video games also did some choreography for the movie and portrayed a foot soldier.
how did you not notice? They are caught hanging in a net on the docks alone and none of them had lost their weapons. 1 of them is wielding 2 swords and all 4 are trained in ninjutsu, 2 swords against 1 rope, you do the math. Haing a trial and error i suspect they have been caught a few times but escaped, why not cut the rope now like every other sane mind would do.
@@professorbaxtercarelessdre1075 Yea back then it was just cool to have another Turtles Movie 👍🏼 I was blown away when as a friend told me, there is Turtles Movie 🤯😯😃
@@TheJinjiDucan yeah, i loved watching the cartoon and playing with the toys as a kid, i never watched any of the newer films but i'll always have a place in my heart for the classic cartoon and first film
Blame the parents. The studio was so afraid of the possible loss of money over the backlash they turned the violence almost to zero, making it more goofy than the cartoon. Be happy they got to at least wear them, because if the parents would had their will the turtles would be wielding pillows and fight with good night stories
The suit performers weren’t the only ones who got cameos as two of the face puppeteers did too. In the newsroom scene with Mark and Michael is Rob Tygner, face puppeteer of Leonardo. I got a cameo (Mak Wilson - Michelangelo) as the Vanilla Ice promoter’s assistant. Fun times.
Judith Hoag - History shows that she was right, China(Golden Harvest) was inhumane towards their actors, particularly those spending hours in turtles costume with no breaks. Corey Feldman - was in legal troubles for drugs(Donatello voice) Josh Pais - Was too claustrophobic in (Raphael) costume & didn’t return. See Judith Hoag complaints above(on his & others behalf).
because the cartoon took away the Utrom connection from the comics, so it wouldnt make sense to have TGRI on the cans and have to explain that part to kids, so to give the turtles some closer connection they made it that Shredder made the ooze. In the comics Shredder was just some dude leading the foot they killed off in the first issue and wasnt meant to come back.
@@zilvertron hey the movie is a classic but you can’t tell me that when he said “ oh and no anchovies!! And I mean no anchovies! You put anchovies on this thing and your in Big trouble okay!! Splinter” okay Michelangelo!! Ugh!! That’ll do and the clocks ticking dude!!
So parents backlash a PG movie when Jaws got graphic violence and the first victim under water nude scene, Indiana Jones with the violence and scary scenes like the face melting scene and Beetlejuice dropping the f bomb.
I think specifically it was Judith raising issues with Golden Harvest's lack of safety and care for the stunt crew which included little Ernie Reyes Jr.
They Need To Remake This Movie With 1987-1996 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoons Be In The This Movie And I Don’t Think Judith Hoag Was Too Difficult To Work With And Krang And Baxter Stockman Need To Be In The Movie And Make The Movie Just Like The Cartoons From 1987-1996 And Why Wasn’r April’s Friend Erma And Vernon Fenwick Not In The Movie And Also The Ratking Not In The Movie
That's not young Ryan Reynolds, that's Leif Tilden in the Foot Soldier grab who does the stunt performer of Donatello and Adam Carl is the voice of Donatello.
Eastman and Laird: "No goofy characters!" But Tokka and Rahzar, who are more complete idiots and goofy than Bebop and Rocksteady were okay. Also the latter two were already water-downed in the cartoon, so I don't see the point of swapping them into Tokka and Rahzar... Uh-huh...
What an effort to go through just to make sure that the actors faces weren't seen through the mouths, when I had never even noticed until I saw it elsewhere just a couple of years ago. How many people actually noticed that at the time and especially the kids the movie was made for?
They made the Turtles silly and goofy to give the movie a lighter tone, but they didn't want Bebop and Rocksteady in the movie, because they didn't want goofy characters...?
Hello, Josh Pais, Raphael! Josh had a legitimate reason because being in the suit gave him clostrophobia pretty bad. I wish he could of at least voiced Raph in 2 and 3. Adam Carl voicing Donnie? No. That annoying laugh he had!
You gotta tell us some facts about the Disney Movie Holes cause I wanna know what the crew put on all those bearded dragons to make the yellow spotted lizards
yea i still like the 2nd slightly better just the last few scenes with them feeding tokar and razzar transitioning into the dance scene blew my mind. Hopefully we can all agree 3 was terrible, still remember first scene looking at the turtles and saying what is wrong with them, and then the whole thing in ancient japan with their headpieces with no shredder (if i even watched that far) didn't feel very turtles to me and was a huge letdown.
2:00 Yup I knew that. You can easily hear his voice. I like to listen to voice actors and try to place them in their respective roles... but maybe that's just me 🤣
So we got a movie that could've been better. Im sure the Jim henson work shop could've made the mousers. Studios ruin everything. I saw the movie as a kid didn't scare me for life. Whinny parents back in the day More so now.
I don’t think Casey Jones’s mask in the first movie. He looks at scary. I think that just looks accurate to the TMNT Kartu not the original not the second version but the third version.
I honestly would’ve loved to see the alien plot twist with the professor, but people back then were really soft, they complained so much about the movie cause it was “violent” imagine if they saw the 2012 tmnt they would die because of how violent it is
This video is a little too Raph...👀 P.S. We were literally watching Friday the 13th at the same time as this, I don't want to hear Casey's "scary mask" excuse. BS
