I don’t see a problem with series of books continueing after an authors death as long as they are still creative and good
@killer92173
@killer92173 5 лет назад
A good example of this is when Brandon Sanderson stepped in to finish The Wheel of Time Saga after Robert Jordan died. He finished the novels 12, 13, and 14, and they were great books to end a great saga when the series was struggling to recover from books 6-10.

The good thing is that Cursed Child never happened. It's not cannon. Period. We all agreed on it, we overruled Rowling, end of story. ( ︶︿︶) Series that went too long? A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin has lost the plot mid-day through the 3rd book which is why he just can't finish the books and the TV series went to sh*t.

Sad thing is it's kind of GRRM's fault that the HBO Series went to shit imo. Since he couldn't finish Book 6 in time D&D had nothing to work with, which resulted them rushing to the finish line and fucking up everything in the progress.

I'm not sure which book I prefer from the three, but I concur with your view that they are fine as a trilogy. I find it hard to see how things might have been improved by stretching the narrative out further.
@jadesmediacorner

I think it’s great as a trilogy and totally agree that Catching Fire is superior. I still think Mockingjay should have been two books or a longer book so there could have been more time to plan out the ending, but it still worked very well for what it was.

The Hunger Games was perfect as a trilogy - everything was explored that needed to be, with no excess fat anywhere. Leaving the first as a stand alone would have been insufficient, and expanding beyond a trilogy would have bloated things unnecessarily.

I’m worried about the “after the author is dead” thing even more for my favorite author: R.L. Stine. I know, I know; there’s rumors he didn’t write all of the books. But I don’t want to see him die and then have a bunch of crappy, socio-political authors popping-up in the Franchise.

Michael Kikle? THE Michael Kikle?! Dude, I used to be all over your channel! Your book reviews were some of my faves! How come you took 'em all down?
@michaelkikle3018
@michaelkikle3018 5 лет назад
TH3 F4LC0N Hahahah! Hey, man! How are you? I hope God is blessing you really well! I don’t know why I ended-up removing them, I just kind of stopped caring, and deleted everything, you know? I think my head got a little too big for my reviews, and I just didn’t like what was happening, anymore. I sort of tried to turn my channel into a Christian channel, at one point, too, and I just had too hard a time coming-up with content. At the moment, though, I’m actually on another channel I started where I only talk about Goosebumps books and movies and episodes, called “Michael Goosebumpsfan” (check it out, if you’re interested). I’m also kind of debating on starting a new channel again where I’ll talk about everything like movies, books, tv, all of it. That channel is currently called “Strange Michael” And has one review up for a comic about Venom and Hulk fighting lol. The default photo is a Karloff Frankenstein’s Monster, if you’re interested in sort of the old Kikle-style videos I used to make hahah. It was nice talking to you, again, friend! I’m sorry I let you down, once upon a time!
@michaelkikle3018
@michaelkikle3018 5 лет назад
TH3 F4LC0N Also: did you prefer the on-camera reviews, or the audio-only ones more? I’m not sure which way I’m leaning for the Strange Michael channel lol.
@TH3F4LC0Nx
@TH3F4LC0Nx 5 лет назад
@@michaelkikle3018 Oh, it really doesn't matter to me whether it's an audio only review or one with video. Although, if I had to say, I think I'd lean more towards the audio only, because that way I can turn the volume up and multitask while still getting the full review experience. That was kinda the Michael Kikle hallmark, just a picture of the book's cover with an audio review, at least that's how I remember your videos being. I got into your channel back when I was DEEP into Stephen King, and I saw that you reviewed a whole lotta his books. (Now, though, having seen how he handles ending his books, that flame has kinda died out!) I really liked your channel though, because you did reviews on authors that nobody else really did. I think you had some Brian Keene books that you reviewed, and I know you did some on Richard Laymon. (I was debating on branching out into Richard Laymon's work, since I'd read that Stephen King said he was good, but now I've kinda decided not to, since from all the text reviews I've read, Richard Laymon was kind of a pervert whose books all devolved into weird rape porn..) Anyway, I still enjoyed your vids a lot, and while I was never huge into Goosebumps, I'mma definitely be checking out your channel where you're gonna be doing books, movies, and etc. :)
@michaelkikle3018
@michaelkikle3018 5 лет назад
TH3 F4LC0N I couldn’t agree more on your complaint about King. I think his political rants on twitter are really what did it for me. Guy acts like a child. It crushed every bit of love I had for him, once upon a time hahah. I thought I’d let you know what my new favorite Stephen King book is, too: Duma-Freaking-Key! If you haven’t read that, you MUST! It was so great! I really appreciate the kind words, dude. I uploaded a couple of videos, last night, but I’m not sure if I even like what it ended-up being hahah. I might start all over with audio reviews, like what you had said. I agree with you; that always felt like MY thing, you know? No one really makes radio-style videos, and that’s what I miss about the old Kikle channel hahah. Plus, those videos are a lot more comfortable to make, honestly. Also: I love Keene, still. Guy is a master at what he does. If you want to try Laymon without paying boocoos of money for a copy of it, I’d recommend trying one of the ebooks on kindle. They’ve got a lot of stuff I couldn’t find anywhere. Kind of shocking lol. I’ll make a shoutout to you, whenever I get around to recording the newest intro lol

Ive not read the series but my friend once told me this about it: The Sword of Truth series is basically a soap box for the Author's political ideology, the protagonist (who regularly emphasised for being a great guy with no flaws) routinely gives dramatic lectures that reflect the author's political views and the villains (who are almost comically evil with no redeeming features) reflect the author's ideological opposition. Again this is a secondhand opinion so take it with a grain of salt but hes not the only person Ive seen this claim come from.

You should review The Wheel of Time. That’s a long series. I don’t think it went on too long but dang if it isn’t a lot of books. A lot of Middle Earth wouldn’t been known if it wasn’t added to and pieces together from existing work by Christopher Tolkien.

@ThePreciseClimber
@ThePreciseClimber 3 года назад
@@emersonlee5146 If anything, WoT would've been a better manga than a novel series. All the drawn-out descriptions of items and places would be automatically converted into easy-to-digest drawings. Repetitive prose (braid tugging, etc.) could become amusing, little running gags. Not to mention manga can do internal monologues just fine so you wouldn't lose that.
@emersonlee5146
@emersonlee5146 3 года назад
@@ThePreciseClimber There is in fact a graphic novel adaptation of the Eye of the World. It highlights the difference in the mediums as I was rather disappointed in the way it looked. Text novels engage the readers imagination which is why film or visual adaption is so difficult. Drawing is also more expensive and resource consuming so we might have gotten less story that moved at a slower pace
@ThePreciseClimber
@ThePreciseClimber 3 года назад
@@emersonlee5146 One mediocre adaptation does not invalidate an entire medium. I could do the same thing by pointing out some poor novelisations of movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. In all honesty, plain text novels are not all that great when it comes to awakening people's imagination. Authors like Jules Verne and Charles Dickens understood that and included plenty of illustrations whenever possible. To awaken visual imagination, you need to show people visuals. And if you don't create your own art style, all your imagination goes to waste.
@emersonlee5146
@emersonlee5146 3 года назад
@@ThePreciseClimber I'm not dismissing an entire medium I'm just pointing out that they are different. I enjoy both. not everyone can draw. you should judge a story by the quality of its ideas and writing not by how pretty its delivery method. I like movies,comics and books and there will hopefully always be a place for all three. different places for different ideas to be communicated

Have you ever read Maximum Ride by James Patterson? It's a young adult series but its absolutely amazing and I believe you would like the series. (There are 9 books, and even though that seems like a lot it works really well and flows amazingly in my thoughts.)

I think the Shannara series by Terry Brooks is guilty of this, and it pains me to say that because it is hands down my favorite fantasy series. I loved the original trilogy and all the prequel novels (my favorite of them being the Word and the Void series), but I wish he would have ended it there with the prequels, not continue to add on to them. I feel the newer books lack the fun and fast pacing the earlier ones had.

I kinda agree about Bernard Cornwell Last Kingdom/ Saxon Stories series. I've been thinking that for a while now BUT every time I read or listen to a new one, I still really like it. So... Idk. For those of us who like adventure/ heroic historical fiction there aren't many good options being written currently, so I'll continue to support whatever Cornwell writes. Also highly recommend the Shogun books by James Clavell to anyone who likes Cornwell

@Air_Serpent
@Air_Serpent 5 лет назад
Though the author had already written parts of the last book, so I think that’s a different situation. I personally think it’s fine if it’s done by the author’s notes/views with respect to the source material- to finish a series.
@84tand
@84tand 2 года назад
There’s a big difference between an author finishing a series with the original author’s notes and vision (which Brandon Sanderson did with the Wheel of Time series). And a blatant cash grab such as the James Bond example you mentioned (they also did that w/ Stieg Larson, Mario Puzo, Robert Ludlum, Frank Herbert and many others)
@hailthechief2
@hailthechief2 5 лет назад
What do you think about Sanderson finishing "The Wheel of Time" for Robert Jordan? Or Frank Herbert's son carrying the torch of the Dune series? The only time I think an author should carry the torch is if it was some giant epic scale series where there had to be some conclusion at the end to tie it together, but it should still not take too many books to do so, if it does then the series was a mess to begin with. Then there is the Stieg Larsen Girl with the Dragon Tattoo where some crap was pumped out and made into a movie by a dead author who knew he was dying so he pumped out his trilogy only to have it raped and pillaged by add on novels. Just my peso of thought.
@elbauldelosrecuerdosdemigu5137
Yeah, I agree with you in that, for example, if GRRM dies before finishing ASOIAF, I would like to see it finished by another author, I mean I need to know the books' ending, which will probably be quite similar to the one from the show, but still the development of the characters could be a lot better. I mean, I hate it when it's a detective series or just a series of conclusive books and there are continuation novels, like with the Poirot series by Agatha Christie, if the story is finished or it really doesn't need a conclusion, just leave it alone.
@TH3F4LC0Nx
@TH3F4LC0Nx 5 лет назад
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series was so terrible to begin with that I don't think there was anything there to "rape and pillage" that hadn't already been. I remember reading the first book and wondering how exactly it became the phenomenon that it did, then attempting to read the second one and just giving up because of how dry and uninteresting it was.
@hailthechief2
@hailthechief2 5 лет назад
@@TH3F4LC0Nx People have their own tastes in books, I haven't read the series myself, but it was still raped for more money. Off the top of my head it was one of the newer series that was taken advantage of when the author died. I don't know how the trilogy ends and if it requires more books, but I doubt it knowing the author knew he was going to die so he put out what he needed to put out there.

@@hailthechief2 Save yourself the trouble and don't even bother reading that overrated turd of a series. I feel the same way about Madeleine L'Engle's "Time Series." The first one, "A Wrinkle in Time," is one of the greatest books ever, but the later installments, while they all start off well, fall far short of potential IMHO. Her only other two really good YA books, "The Arm of the Starfish" and "A Ring of Endless Light," also outshine their respective series by light years.

Anne Rice's vampire books have lost all appeal for me - the ending of Memnoch The Devil was perfect and it should have ended there (preferably omitting Tale Of The Body Thief before it too). The magic ebbed out of Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children series after the second book as well - seemed to degenerate into (admittedly superior) stone age Mills & Boone romance with the third. I disagree re: The Hunger Games - an excellent trilogy that I wouldn't want to see changed for the world.
