Don't sign a blank authorization form? Well that is exactly what you do when you go to the hospital and they stick all that paperwork under your nose and expect you to sign it.
a tire alignment can be costly due to the equipment required to such a service, autozone, pepboys, and other autoparts stores will not do them for free. (US Army Mechanic)
If you take your car to a reputable mechanic they will explain the problem likely cause of the problem a solution and how to prevent it from happening again. Most mechanics are very honest but unlike a doctor (were a human body never changes ) the engineers are allows changing the design of these vehicles and a technician will get 1 or 2 things a month they never seen before. But with his general experience will be able to properly diagnose and repair your vehicle. Don't act like you know a lot about your vehicle then you can tell if your at a reputable shop or not
A highly trained and experienced mechanic does not need as many fancy electronics as A tech learning the trade. A scanner and test light is all you need. They make all kinds of fancy unnecessary diagnostic aids which in the long run cost the customer more money.
I have known it for years that’s why I started teaching my self about cars and that check engine light is the best thing that happens to cars because as much as cars cost a scan tool or a code reader should be added to the computer screen but I bought my own scanner and code reader and it has saved me a bunch of money not going to the mechanic. I have not been to a mechanic in years I learned to do my own maintenance
My dad's a mechanic and he probably is the only one that doesn't scam that's why celebs come to his garage and he's sponsored by the jeep company itself
The Scare Tactics were tried on me before. In 2017, I was taking my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a place on 6 Mile Road in Detroit where my brother used to go before he died. They did good work until 1 of their employees told me my gear box was leaking aside from the tie rods and sleeves that I knew I needed. I was told that the parts and labor would be $1,250.00 that I didn't have. Took my vehicle for a second opinion and was told that, yes, I needed the tie rods, sleeves and ball joints, BUT, my gear box was not leaking nor did I need to replace the pitman arm, which was supposed to have been bad as well. I NEVER RETURNED TO THEM AGAIN!!!
@@Racerman-ib7eg I live in Florida I have a very loud Jeep renegade and Pontiac Firebird trans am both with performance exhausts that wake up neighborhoods. But Florida doesn't have exhaust laws as far as I'm told. So what are they gonna do?
Bro-This is why you need to establish a good relationship with a honest mechanic and refer all your friends and family. You need to trust the person who repairs your car-it could save your life and your bank account. Stay real!!!
As a mechanic for 35 years. I have seen this. I also have seen at a dealership. There was a grocery list of what they did to the car to fix it. Primarily it was a list of every guess. I never tried to hard sale or scare tactics never needed to. I always said it dont matter if we do the work or if you or joes bar and auto just get it done please. And some customers are defensive from the start and accuse me of scam. I just told them dont do it I really dont care. And point at my vehicle and say thats mine it will make me home. But please get a second opinion at least. Well that’s my story
I had a guy come into my shop with failing ball joints and tirods. I told him he should leave it with me as its not gonna make it home. Lets just say he didn't listen. It came in on a tow truck the following morning. A $400 job became a $900 job
th3guyb3hindu I was working in Edmond a car came in for an oil change. I denied the job because frame was rusted out. My boss got mad. Two weeks later the boss was there and we seen it go by on a wrecker frame broke in two boss told me forget what I said and walked away
Yup, over time you get used to how things should sound and put unusual sounds and symptoms to certain causes or even common faults on specific makes and models
yes, but id never leave my car with a mechanic when i go on holiday. i know they have to drive the car to test it, but some drive it around, run errands and even take it home- no offence but im not comfortable with that part of the deal, my car is like my wife and i dont like seeing my wife with other men.
Must have a scanner? Not true. Many or most problems are either visible or can be heard. Examples, wheel bearings, CV axles, brakes, leaks of any kind. Yes, I need a light bulb replaced, do you have a scanner? Lol.
I have diesel truck, oil change at the shop $200, Doing it myself $45 using mobile 1 filter & synthetic 15-40. I buy oil in bulk 10 gallons at a time which gives me enough for 4 oil changes.
You know, many and I mean many problems can be diagnosed without the scan tools they are still extremely helpful and nessicary but any good mechanic can tell problems based off of sound or smell
Mane at autzone I replaced some parts cause my check engine light was on, and went to O'Reillys, they said the exact problems of parts I needa replace.
Power steering flush is in coolant flush is a good idea to do every 25,000 because these fluids can fail and then take down your head gasket if your coolant isn’t good no more it’s not gonna call your engine take down your head gasket then seizure engine blow it up
My mechanic Kept misdiagnosing a blown head gasket finally took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it in a matter of minutes. I must’ve spent thousands with that first Mechanic trying to get them to switch out thermostat etc. to fix the heating problem
Blown head gaskets are easy to diagnose just look at your oil to see the color and the color of your coolant. Also when you have a bad head gasket your coolant goes down very fast so it's not a bad idea to keep extra coolant with you but yeah he was just trying to scam you a blown head is a pain in the ass to fix and cost alot because no one likes doing it
Sexyclaptrap The weird thing is it is the oil didn’t change color, I noticed the engine will take forever to heat up. I think the head gasket was leaking not blown.
This information is directed at armatures, i grew around people that knew a few things about mechanics some for many decades.. none with schooling or certified. However you really should except it from big cities.
I disagree majorly when it comes to the "scanner" because my uncle and grandpa works on cars more than these people been alive and can tell you the problem over the phone and be 100% right. He told my mom her engine was going to blow up in a week and sure enough it blew up in a week
I doubt you have a mechanic friend at all. Giving you the benefit of the doubt any mechanic that does not do consistant work all week and leave personal issues at home can go to a factory. If this was true then Monday the tech would be busy with come backs he"s working on for free and not have time for your vehicle
If a repair shop offers free diagnoses don't trust them they are checking a code and guessing at the most common cause. they will be write 70 - 80 percent of the time. are you lucky enough to be in that range. They will not return you hundreds of dollars and tell you it needs further testing at your exoense or act like its such a strange problem you have to take it to the dealer.
Mechanics should not scam a client, if this client tell to other people they will never go to that mechanic so he will not have work to do anymore (none will go to him) if he scam and somone detect it ..!
This makes techs look bad. I’m a tech and I don’t fix anything that isn’t broke. I got enough work without trying to create problems that isn’t there. Not everyone is untrustworthy. I’ve actually done a lot of work for free. Some of us actually take a lot of pride in our work.
These things are one reason I quit working at a dealership. I'm not a crook.. I will give the person the real reason the vehicle is doing what it's doing. An don't charge as much as the dealer/shop will. That's why I stay busy turning wrenches
I`m a mechanic and i usually tell my custumers u can use this part or these brake or etc more no problem why? cuz i dont get the extra money ... my boss gets it i just want to not have alot of work haha so i dont scam people
To be fair though, there are some mechanical issues that can and do go unnoticed and lead to catastrophic failure and a mechanic will let you know about it, even if they then charge a premium to fix it. It doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion, but I don't think the majority of mechanics are necessarily trying to scam you, just make your car function as close to new within whatever price they think they can make you pay.
1st, not all Mechanics are like this, 2nd, some problems can get diagnosed without tools, 3rd, it's most of the time the dealership not the mechanic who scams. Remember that
Here’s a tip. Unless you know someone accept the fact that you WILL over pay unless you do it your fucking self. Learn about the shit that you use in your everyday life people.
Then you should see some of the cars that come to the dealership I’ve seen cars that are run to the ground all years and models . I’ve seen cars that were neglected cars that came form other shops and screwed up .
Unfortunately what they call scare tactics is highly used and legalized in Canada.see defending what part of Canada you're in a mechanic can seize your vehicle claiming it's unsafe to be driven.if u attempt to remove your vehicle from the premises they call police and your vehicle is seized and inbounded. its quite a common practice where I live and even more so in other parts of Canada.u are only allowed to take your vehicle away with a tow if mechanic deems it unsafe.u go out too places like Alberta even going in for an oil change for Tires replace can result in your vehicle being seized if mechanic deems it unsafe for the road. They do it on a daily basis in Alberta even at places like Walmart.its perfectly legal and actually common in Canada.u don't get the option of a second mechanic's opinion when you can't even take your people out of our lot short of paying 200 or more for the too have it towed.u can in some places literally go to a shop and u see a long row of vehicles out beside the shop where they've been deemed unsafe be driven and people have not shown up yet with no truck to haul them off
Is it me or does this all seem like common knowledge or are these people just really gullible also those clips also show people wrenching where there shouldn't be anything
Yeah.. This is something i don't like to watch and very disagree because some of it is not right.. "The Mechanic Should Have A Scan Tool & Engine Analyzer".. Really..?? What if the tierod or steering rack / worm is bad..?? You use analyzer or scan tool..?? What if the ball joint or bushing is gone..?? You use scan tool as well..?? Please be very careful and learn from the real mechanic before making something like this.. Mechanic doesn't need to have scan tool or engine analyzer.. Not every problem can be detected from scan tool or analyzer.. Not having or using scan tool / analyzer doesn't mean the mechanic is a bad guy.. *facepalm
This channel puts out so much bunked As ,seems to !like making all mechanics look bad. No mechanic ever talks to a customer unless the mechanic asks specifically to talk to a customer.
This dude hate mechanics. His opinions makes it sound like every mechanic is shady. Why would a mechanic rush work on fridays? 90% of auto shops are open on Saturdays. Hack job! I no longer subscribe to this channel.
