I'm a photographer and do NO video aside from some drone stuff and I was captivated by this tutorial. Very well presented, animated, and explained. Well done.
I have seen a lot of youtube videographers / cinematographers / photography hacks etc, but THIS must be the biggest eye-opener video i have seen in a long time, i have a monopod that just laying around, and I can guarantee you, from this time I will bring it with me all the time
I always loved the portability and ease of use of the monopod... but I never imagined the versatility of this modest gear! Thanks a ton for this fantastic video.
Love the innovative approach man. These are the skills all filmmakers need but few have. It’s not the ability to think outside the box that’s important, it’s the ability to realise there is no freakin box.
Also to recognize the limitations of said box and perhaps a bit of imagination... for mild expansion beyond the box. Also, in the age of AI... so many interesting, new possibilities swiftly approaching.
You'll never know how valuable this video is, to me. I'm a VFX artist, who has been looking for tips on shooting film for a smooth motion tracking solve, in 3d art software. Bravo, sir. All the best, from northern England
Amazing video! Many years ago, I used a very old tripod with a rusty ball head, legs together, combined with a very old camera without autofocus and totally got discouraged :-D This is bringing the magic back again! Very well explained and documented.
Can't wait to try these moves! As a woman in the business, gimbals are too heavy for me to carry especially over long periods of time- wouldn't even dare put a gimbal above my head for those drone shots- thanks for the alternative!
This was so on point, and hands down one of the most useful videos I have seen on techniques that are actually untapped by so many users. Ive seen creator make repetitive videos on techniques that are already overrated, but this is truly unique and I thank you for making this video. Definitely sharing it and saving it for later 🌄
I truly enjoy your concise yet thorough presentations, especially your use of animations. This episode was particularly informative. I found the hero shot the most interesting in how your use of the monopod made this complex movement rather easy. I managed to locate all of the parts you suggested (including a used Manfrotto 234). Thanks for all of your hard work and time.
Thank you so much for the compliments and words of support. Really happy this episode can help you get creative with such a simple tool. Thanks for watching
Great suggestions. It reminds me of when I was in college many years ago. I shot a short film for Cinematography class using a Super 8 camera. I had one shot where I wanted a Steadicam effect as I followed the main character up a long set of stairs and onto a patio. I used my tripod fully collapsed, and held the top of the tripod as I walked. My teacher was impressed with the smoothness of the shot, and I ended up receiving a B+ for my short as a result. At the moment, I have a Benro fluid head and a monopod which I believe will work well together. Thanks for another inspirational video.
Your videos are standing out, because they are not only highly professionally made, but contain true valuable information for film making geeks. No click bait or bla bla bla. Very very good! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words and compliments. Really appreciate your supportive words, the reason why I'm here on youtube, to serve awesome people like you sir. Thanks again
👍🏻 My wife just commented “the model was very beautiful and one of the most natural”. She used to be a top wedding gown designer for over 20years and knows her models. I’m just a simple minded BASED drone guy, so had no clue other than the fact that she was pretty. 🙄 Great video as always… Thank You!
This was a fantastic video. I really appreciate the detailed work you put into showing and explaining the equipment and techniques you used to achieve the results. Beautifully done. Thank you!
As always, this was very instructive and a joy to watch! Gimbals are probably some of the most overrated tools in a filmmaker's kit. Thank you for all the amazing tips and your endless work to make it as entertaining as it can be!
I have been contemplating selling some gear that's been collecting dust because once upon a time, I listened to ALL the RU-vidrs before I had an idea of what I'm doing. 🤦🏾♂️ Funny enough, my monopod was first up on the chopping block. I have been immersed in your video for the last two weeks putting your suggestions to the test for my needs. Essentially, you've been my textbook! : ) All that to say, thank you for your work and the inspiration it generated.
Really happy you find my channel useful, and glad it can help you with your own filmmaking journey. Also thank you so much for your kind cotribution, MUCH APPRECIATED.
Dude, this was SO helpful! I'm starting into wedding filmmaking, and while I have a gimbal, I'm trying to find a stabilization solution that will allow for quicker changes and a more organic feel. This monopod idea might be great for weddings... thanks!
@@MJDreams I haven’t yet, no. I’m thinking that it might be a bit too unwieldy for all the moving around we do at a wedding. I have found that using a camera strap and not moving much does a pretty good job, though. This would still be interesting to try… 🤔
Very well explained. I liked the way you shared the secrets of moving, holding, and putting things right. Thanks a lot. Liked and learned many things from this video.
Wow, I've never used a monopod before but it looks incredibly versatile. Reminds me alot of my glidecam days, I use gimbals for work frequently now but i miss that organic feel you get from non motorized stabilization.
Fascinating techniques, simple but very effective. I particularly like the physicality that it brings, stepping away from the technology and towards the art.
Amazing Moves, shot 7 has to be my favorite. I also like the natural movement of the shots with out the post stabilization. I'll never look at monopods the same way again lol.
Master of masterpeace ! always a pleasure to watch your work and the passion that’s animated you ! I love working with my monopods and smalll camera like my sigma fp. Thanks 🙏 for the tips !
This is so helpful! As a photographer who loves minimal setups and learning video, this was so helpful and literally does the job phenomenally. Thank you!
I use the fluid head and handle as a shouler rig, it works very well, and the monopod itself for interviews were I don't have room for a tripod (traveling+ confined space).
Honestly I can get the same effects without a monopod. It's all about Rig weight and balance, wide to normal focal length, good technique and some post prod. That girl is really hot though
Fantastic video explaining all information without coffee drinking clips or dogs in the videos like most have some weird things going and showing lol. Anyways everyone got their style but I truly love how well your videos are showing most important information. Watching hundreds of youtube videos all the time and looking for good piece of information really drains your brains out lol. Subscribed!
I totally and absolutely hear you, I also find those “coffee moments with friends” unnecessary. But that’s me (guess that makes 2 of us), that’s why I never include them in my videos and just go straight to the point. Really happy you enjoyed the format then. Thanks again for your support
In my experience (2 short films), I've feel more confident using only a tripod, than a complicated gimbal (which gave me some erratic and undesired moves/behaviors)... I will try monoposds.
Watching this video till the end while I only own a cheap monopod & gimbal (both are for mobile phone 😂) I love these tips! the forest & teh model looks very beautiful too 😍
Stumbled on this video and I’m amazed at the show of raw cinematography skills that is fast going extinct especially with the flooding and bombardment of high tech equipments on our psyche, which has made us ingenious and uncreative. You have a new subscriber here.
Fantastic video. While it was focused on not needing a gimbal it occurred to me that the monopod would be good with a gimbal too. Combined the video is completely smooth and is a cheap substitute for a slider amongst other things.
Absolutely, again I’m not trying to say a monopod can replace a gimbal, I’m just saying that many gimbal movement can be done with other tools, such as monopod in this case. Monopods are super versatile honestly and they’re not given the attention they deserve
Great tip with the 90 degree tilt head. You're right, it's quite challenging finding the right tilt head to match with the video pan/tilt head and monopod. I found the Sirui L-10 tilt head, and it worked great. 😅
