Just a heads up for those of you waiting for Day 6 -- the filming room is currently being painted, so we're hoping to get Day 6 & 7 filmed on Tuesday and released late week. Sorry for the delay! ~Kevin
Another excellent series, Kevin. Your teaching style suits the way I learn. The encouragement, pacing and on screen notation is greatly appreciated. I’m almost 70 learning an instrument for the first time. Keep it going!
Hey Michael -- glad to hear from you and that you're enjoying the series. Really appreciate you joining the community! As I always tell people, it's NEVER too late to learn an instrument, especially the ukulele. It brings so many benefits to the table. How are you coming along with the strumming series so far? ~Kevin
Hello Kevin, your Videos are helping me a lot as a beginner! Since i‘m already 56 years old and have never played an instroment befördert, i‘m very glad that i found your side!!
After every your lesson I can say «Wow! I did it. I'm actually playing ukulele!» And both your approach and your personality help to make it happen. Thank you from Ukraine 💛
Hey hey - thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time to learn with me. Playing the ukulele the gift that never stops giving so keep strumming and taking a little time for yourself every day. It’s a better life! - Kevin
Perfect time for self-isolating uke learning! Thank you Kevin! ( our sassy senior group had to disband but I still check in with you regularly! ) Stay healthy 👍😍
Couldn’t agree with you more! Ukulele is getting me through this time period 💯. It keeps me going hearing from everyone out there who’s trying to get through this. The more music we can collectively make, the better. All the best to you - Kevin (www.allforuke.com/lessons)
Wow!! This video was so helpful I’ve never been able to play with my pointer finger and thumb! And I did it first try! I’ve been playing for 3 years with a lot of long breaks but I’ve been practicing constantly for the last 2 months! And I’ve actually did the song on the end first try!! Thank you❤️
Thank you for this pattern. I was stuck with the island strum trying to apply it to all the songs and was facing issues and also feeling very limited. This has definitely opened my eyes and given me range.
My strumming has improved so much already! Can`t wait to see how I`m gonna be by the end of day 7 and of course to do all other series you have on your channel. You are such a great teacher! Thanks heaps :)
Yay ! Thank you Kevin . Day 5 of 7 Strumming Lesson was fun & more enjoy...I got to learn song "Can't help falling in Love"in the right way strumming . Thanks again & Yes ! You are Pro :)
Thanks so much for these video lessons. I’ve been playing the ukulele for more than a year now (I’m 72). My inability to strum with any rhythm or technique was holding me back. In three days your lessons have opened the door for me. I only wish I had seen your strumming tuition 15 months ago. Now I’m going back to the start, I know chords and have a repertoire of about 80 songs. Now all I have to do now is learn to strum correctly with these songs. Not sure if you reply to these comments, but how do I know which strumming technique do I use for each of the songs I play?
Loving the series. You make me feel like I can get better and better. Your method of teaching works for my short attention span. I will be checking out more of your videos. This is helping me for when I go to ukulele class. They give us songs but tell us to find our strum that works for us so this gives me more options.
Thanks Frank -- my goal was to elevate beginners and and offer some new insight for the intermediate players as well. How are you doing with the series so far? Feel free to share with your ukulele playing friends. Keep in touch ~ Kevin

This was a particularly helpful part of the 7 days series Step Up Your Strumming! 3/4 has always, always caused me such major trouble, thank you for bringing this strumming pattern to the series! Overall, I've done this 5 days straight and it's been great to learn so many new, useful things. Really grateful for that!
Appreciate you learning with me! If you think you’d benefit from practice worksheets and jam track play alongs, give my site www.allforuke.com a try! All the best - Kevin
Hi Kevin, this has been such a fabulous series! I got my first real uke at 16, but never REALLY learned how to play it until now (I'm 32). I do play multiple instruments and sing, but not together. I wanted to see if you've made a sing and play tutorial series? Thanks for all the hard work you put into these! You have a real passion for people, music and teaching, and it shows in your videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Kevin , been away but I'm back. Love the way that you pace it with clear instructions and make it easy to go back and forth. Don't rush Kevin, still plenty of practice needed before moving on : )
I love this series. I am improving by slowing down. I like how you break it down. I've only been playing about one year. It is hard to be patient and slow down but it works..Thank you
Key phrase here is "improving by slowing down" The reps that you get while you're playing very slowly are so beneficial to your technique. It seems silly sometimes when you're doing it, but I can attest that it helps tremendously in the long run. You've got the right mentality to keep growing as a ukulele player, so just keep at it and it'll keep giving back to you, I promise. Keep in touch and let me know how you're coming along ~Kevin
Thank you Thi - If you’re interested in more learning tools to accompany these lessons, drop by my new site. I have practice tracks and worksheets available for you that will really help. All the best - Kevin | www.allforuke.com/lessons
What style or type of strumming patterns would you like to see in Day 6 & 7 to finish out this series? Reggae? Country? Funky? Or how about the best strum ever? Let me know -- we're filming Friday! ~Kevin
Lol -- this gave me a chuckle. I'm glad to see you're still with me through Day 5. Will you make it until the end?? Thanks for joining AllForUke Sergio! ~Kevin
Nice video! I will have to work with this for a couple of hours during next week. I think I have to exercise the longer faster chord progression with muted strings and no chords distracting me. Then one can get the rhythm and later add chords. I really appreciate your long play-along parts!
That's a great idea and a point I'll raise in future videos. That's what I love most about this growing community -- the shared information that helps us all get better. You rock - keep in touch
Fun stuff. Amazing how fast I'm getting this down. I have taken music lessons on and off my entire life and NEVER has it come to me this well. That's you, brothah! Awesome
I love your videos! I teach a small ukulele class of adults, and I appreciate your gentle pace and your beautiful voice! Thank you! I do wish you had finished the song! The third line isn't too hard when you keep the finger shape from the em to the B7, then the 4 the line is like the first two. Thank you for your excellent work. I also love your Beatles tunes!
Hey Marny -- thanks for joining the community :) That's awesome that you're teaching a class. Where does that take place? I teach group classes, camps, and workshops as well and really enjoy it! I think we'll have to do a full song for Day 7 of the series.. keep in touch ~Kevin
@@AllForUke Kevin, we are in Western North Carolina, a town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Morganton, about an hour East (and down the mountain) from Asheville. Let me know if you're ever in the area!!!
Finally, I could go for day 5. You are a great instructor. But today's strumming pattern is a bit difficult. Till now all the days were quite easy but with this one.....I think more practice...:)
What a great video for 3/4 timing strumming, thanks for putting this together as this is a great time to learn and practice. Do you have the bridge chords for this song?
Love how you break/slow it down. At 43 learning my first instrument I was struggling a bit with the strumming until I came across your videos. I want to learn a fun song to play with my kids called On my ukulele by John Williamson. Can you slow it down in a video for me?
Just stumbled upon this and love it! I always revert back to island strum but this is helping me focus on other great patterns! Really enjoyed the 3/4 strum for Cant help Falling in Love! 👍👍👍.
Oh yeah, Terri. Feeling the waltz pattern really brings a different vibe. I love it too! Have you ever tried playing Hide Your Love Away by The Beatles? Keep at it ~ Kevin
Found the transition from day 4 to day 5 quite a leap, but I’ll get there! (The new chords I have not done before). Thanks for making these videos. They really are very good.
Hi Kevin, I recently decided to start playing ukulele. I'm struggling a bit with keeping strumming whilst changing chords. Do you have any tips on this or will it just come the more I practice? Enjoying your videos by the way 8-). Thanks.
Hey Jacqui -- glad you enjoyed the lesson :) I really enjoy this pattern as well. Have you ever tried the full version of Can't Help Falling in Love w/ this pattern?
Thanks I've been having difficulty smoothly getting to Em, your tip to use the middle finger will help lot's. Just need to train my hand not to use the ring finger.
Heyhey - I plan on visiting that area of Canada someday. This year I’m going to Lake of the Woods in Ontario for a fishing trip. I can’t wait! Glad you’re enjoying the strumming series :) ~Kevin
when you were like, we have a special guest i thought, “oh, someone is going to come in and play the song” and then you were like, it’s the metronome 😂😂😂
I just discovered this. Thank you very much. You have the best tutorials I've seen. Can you help with how to switch chords faster. For example, in this tutorial, I'm slow going from C to Em and my strum is ahead of my fingers getting in the Em position.
Hey Sanjay - try strumming slower to start so that your fretting hand can catch up. Do that for a while until the chord switch is more comfortable, then slowly speed up your tempo. Doing this with a metronome is the best way to tackle it. Hope this helps - Kevin
Hi Kevin --- what i would really like would be a solo instrumental piece at the skill level of Kickstarter lesson ten. My hands are pretty good but I can't sing and play at the same time.
Hey Stephen - I'll keep that in mind going forward as we develop the next series. Singing and playing at the same time is challenging at first, but if you start with very simplified rhythm (maybe even just one down strum) and familiar easy songs, I bet you can tackle singing & playing. I'm actually thinking about doing a tutorial about singing and playing actually. Anyone else out there think that'd be a beneficial video? ~Kevin
No, not the same. They sound Very similar. G7 is played with the Index finger (1), on the first fret of the E string, and the Middle finger (2), on the second fret of the C string, and the Ring finger (3), on the second fret of the A string. G is played with (1) on the second fret of the C string, (2) on the Third fret of the E string, and (3) on the second fret of the A string. Kind of a mirror image from one another. A very useful tool is a chord book like the Ukulele Chord Finder from Hal Leonard. Hope this helps. Cheers! (Kevin, I apologize if I'm out of line butting in, let me know).
Hey there - if you haven't already, check out the worksheet at www.allforuke.com for this one. You'll see on there that the strum does match up with 1 as the first down strum followed by 2 & 3 & for the d-u-d-u. The first down strum is just accented.
This one is a little tricky at first, I'll admit, but once you get the hang of counting 1-2-3 and feeling the pattern, you'll get it. It's just new and uncomfortable - stick with it! ~Kevin
I think it would be really good if you can actually sing along especially when it is a song everyone knows. I seem to have difficulty putting the lyrics with the chord change.
