I kept buying sotorage boxes and furniture with storage features. As I grow old I realize I need to get rid of stuff, i want more time from my own. You inspire me to buy a smaller purse and i already love it! No mess only my cellphone and wallet fit. Plus the more space in your house, purse, etc the more spaces to put stuff on. THe goal is to get rid of stuff not to store. ONly to keep what is useful NOW!
I'd really advocate for using up inventory whenever possible rather than just putting partially used products in landfill. It is frugal and functional, and keeping "use ups" in a basket nearby works well.
I absolutely love her hair too ! I’d love her hair style looks so carefree snd easy ! Having natural curly hair is work ! I could do her hair style but would have to flat iron all the time !
I'm glad you still love to cook. I used to love it. I'm 71 now, and cooking and washing dishes are the last things I want to do. I find myself being resentful of having to do it. I cook a good late breakfast (my favorite meal), and then I fix another meal around 4 in the afternoon, so I have cut meal prep by one meal. We have little snacks between. Sometimes I put off dishes until the last minute, so I find myself at the sink too late in the evening. I wish I could change my attitude, because I know I have to do this until I can't anymore.
Hello from New Jersey. Would like to share that I was inspired by your video. For some of us, many times all we need is just to listen to some real-life experiences and take them as signs to better ourselves. At least I am that kind of person. Anyway, went thru all my makeup (so many repeats, I don't even use makeup to go to work (RN), items I didn't even know what they were for), my clothes (the ones you say: I might use this dress one day when I am 50Lbs lighter, or maybe my daughter will use this tee shirt), shoes (OMG, I can't believe I have only two feet, so many of them I haven't used once)... Fast forward, too many items in my house that I really won't ever use them. I donated a lot to shelters. In the end, I was happy my house was uncluttering, looking and feeling better and someone else was happy to have some new shoes, and makeup. Now, I need to feel comfortable with my grays, not sure if I can do it. Well, sorry I wrote a book here, just reacting to your inspiration. :) Denise
Hey Denise! Thank you so much for sharing your decluttering story. "OMG, I can't believe I only have two feet." LOL!!! I'm impressed that you decluttered all of your things. Way to go! Happiness and Peace, Connie
Seven days I wish… I feel like I’ve been decluttering forever and more stuff accumulates! The garage is my nemesis as it becomes a dumping ground for all the stuff you have decluttered from the home and then you can’t get rid of it. I’m finding more and more places won’t take donations as they have too much stuff. I recently had to clear my parents family home and it was heart breaking taking perfectly good stuff to the dump. There is a huge amount of emotion tied up in items especially if you have spent hard earned money on them over the years. I’ve also tried selling items but found people want stuff for free or next to nothing. Sorry to be a bit negative Connie but decluttering is hard…
Decluttering is a journey. Don’t get discouraged it takes most of us a few years to get through the whole house. But it is life changing! Also if your on Facebook they have many neighborhood groups for giving items away to your neighbors. Usually the groups are done by zip code. It was easier to get rid of good items knowing that many were interested in having it and them telling you how or why they need. Our group is titled “ never buy anything again” You got this Sarah 🤗
We've set things by our busy road with a free sign on it. Most items go quickly. This doesn't work for every location depending on the local traffic. But that has been an easy way for us to get rid of larger items or a little bit at a time.
I agree with Linda, Decluttering is a journey. Try to give yourself grace and meet yourself where you are today. Take it slow. One item at a time. There is not a minimalism race, no one is judging you, there is no first prize. This is your journey, live it as you feel comfortable. In 2008, when my husband and lost our home, we had to sell what we could and give the rest away. I remember thinking, "So much money and time in these THINGS." This is when I started my minimalist journey. When you are struggling with letting something go, try to identify what it is that you are feeling. Why are you attached to this item. Sometimes identify the feeling helps. Sending you happiness & peace
Your voice is very soothing, Connie. ☺️ I’ve been on my own minimalism journey for 3 going on 4 years now. Many of the things you talk about, I have already learned or have been doing. However, just putting you on in the background as I work through my home is incredibly calming. 🥰 keep it up with your inspiration!
Hello Connie, I just subscribed and I noticed you have different ones admiring your jewelry. I like it too, but love your wardrobe even more, have you gone into more details on your clothing and accessories on your social media platforms? If not, perhaps you can create some tips on how YOU shop smart in pairing your outfits. I struggle with getting bored with the same colors and I get frustrated when trying to add in new pieces especially when I bring the item home and it's the wrong shade or looks bad with the skirt I had in mind to match it with. As I've been watching ur videos I like that you aren't into what I usually see on Pinterest (gray, white and black) your colors are beautiful please help. any tips would be welcomed.🤗 Thank you for the videos, they are very peaceful to watch.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your compliment. I recently did a wardrobe video. I hope it is useful for you. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Kvr7rCHk1Y.html
Hi Connie, I love your wardrobe and casual/elegant style. Would you consider giving us a wardrobe tour and also teach us where and how you purchase your items? They are such high quality - you can tell even on video and I would love to start revamping my wardrobe.
Hey Michelle, You may have already seen my wardrobe video. In case you missed it, here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Kvr7rCHk1Y.html
Office!! So hard to organize papers and keep it that way. I’ve been doing it for the 43 years I’ve been married, but every six months or so it’s bursting with papers again. I have all bills on online payment or just direct debit - that saves you time but papers keep coming in the same way. I guess I have to find the knot in my head that keeps making this a daunting task so I can get rid of this problem once and for all.
I think decluttering takes a lot longer thanb7 days. You should take up to a year. I decluttered my wardrobe 3 times at one month intervals before I was happy with it. Don't go throwing away before you make absolutely sure that you don't want to keep it. Xx
I agree that initially it will take much longer. This video isn't necessarily for beginners. However, they could take a month to do each day's category. She did say that she's been decluttering for 13 years. I've been decluttering and minimizing for eight years, so I can use the seven day approach to go through the entire home. Decluttering is never done.
Yes, if you are new to decluttering and/or you have a lot of things, it will be bigger project. I loved the idea of doing each day in a month. No hurry! Take your time. Happy Decluttering
Having shopped as a hobby for years I have plastic containers 6ft tall of designer purses & tote bags , and clothes most brand new never ever used ! Spent so much money hard to let go ! That’s the only part I have hard time letting go!
You are so helpful and inspiring! I have always been a huge organizing person and just the feeling you get after is so satisfying and calming. It makes me so happy :)
Hello Connie, I really like your vidéos! You're really inspiring me and I'm really working mentaly on minimalism since 3 years ago but not yet on consistency action, overwhelming for me especially with aging, not easy at all! Hope I can make it, 3 years working on it slowly but surely for example not buying any more clothes or furnitures etc...unfortunatly, I still have stuff and clutter to work on it... Thanks a lot for the inspiration!
Thank you Connie, I am new to my minimalist journey. I feel I have so much to say. So I will pause on those and just say I'm inspired and in awe. THANK YOU.
Definitely CLOSET … I don’t use but I always think is sooo cute I have to find the chance … or I’m afraid to regret it as in the past I’ve thrown away things I thought I was tired and out of style; now I wish I could have them… so just patience is the way to go… no big deal🤗
That’s exactly what I did. Started with one room at a time. It’s amazing how much o found to get rid of, and I’m already organized and not cluttered. I had a huge yard sale last weekend and donated what was left. The paperwork took the longest. Ended up with a big bin that I shredded and a trash bin to just throw.
Love your hairstyle Connie. While watching your frugal video, I was thinking that haircut is probably your only splurge. Then find that you cut your own hair?!! Wow! You do a fantastic job! Could you please show us how you do that in a future video?
I have a hard time parting with things that I bought recently or things that I feel I haven’t gotten enough use . Allowing myself permission to get rid of them is very hard. What does work is passing them on where these items can be used for good. Magazines to the library, clothes to an organization that helps people leave sex trafficking, furniture to people who have lost their homes in a fire. But sometimes, not knowing where these things are going can be okay too-that’s where I struggle. Can you do a video on releasing things and having peace and grace around that instead of guilt? It might help with my process which is very slow and overwhelming. Thanks Connie
You are brilliant that's what I want to do not buy things that I don't need and declutter each room especially by my bed going to do this today thank you
I took advantage of the 2020 lockdowns (in Melbourne, Australia) to digitise all of my old photographs - so freeing letting go of all of those physical albums
💗 Hello from Chicagoland! I’m so happy to have found your channel. I’m becoming an empty nester and getting ready to start a little decluttering. I’m already pretty minimalist, but my hubby keeps bringing stuff home. How do you recommend handling this? Also, I love all of your clothing! Can you share where you buy your pieces? They seem very soft and natural! Thank you! 😊
Hi! Minimalism in a marriage is like anything else in a marriage, it takes communication and finding common ground with each other. My husband and I do a monthly budget. This is when we talk about purchases that we are planning on making for the month. Perhaps, this would be a good time for you to ask your husband what are the things he is planning on purchasing in the month, and open a discussion. Communication and common ground. Thanks for the complement on my clothes! I keep it pretty simple with natural fabrics and colors that can be mixed and matched. T's from Banana Republic Outlet, Wide-leg pants and skirts from Target, JCrew, Amazon. Happiness and Peace
Beautiful ! Thank you so much ! I just accomplished a good closet purge last night ! ( clothes & shoes). I’m very pleased. Now after watching this ... yes ... on to bath room & living room! You have such a beautiful smile !! Liz
Do you recycle some of the things you are mentioning throwing away? I just noticed the Listerine bottle you could empty and at least ♻️ recycle. I just love your channel ❤ Very helpful, practical, and encouraging tips!
First time viewer now subscriber. I truly enjoyed this video and look forward to viewing many more. Thank you for sharing your point of view on decluttering and minimalism.
I am new to decluttering and minimalism. It will take more than one day to manage a room, as I begin. I get overwhelmed - should I keep this? Where do I donate this type of item? Ugh, I need better storage solutions for these small items! I'm eager to take small areas and just START! 👍😄
One day for clothes or paperwork? haha.... Clothes will take over two months of solid daily work and paperwork only slightly less... Currently tackling books and CDs and that's been going on for months.
At around 7 minutes you mention throwing away old medicine. Our police department offers disposal service at their offices so the meds don’t end up in landfills or the water supply. They incinerate the medicine.
Thanks Shelly. I pick it up from here and there. I listed a few items I found on Amazon. Silver Necklace Double Rings. amzn.to/2Uw0Ydo Turquoise Mala Bead Necklace. amzn.to/2U2jaLy Large Mala Bead Necklace 8mm. amzn.to/3d7XxzM Womens Gold Circle Necklace. amzn.to/3vRW6MI
I don't own a computer much to peoples shock. If I need a print out I go to family house or the library. I use my phone for the internet. I have aldi mobile here in Australia, pre pay. They use a good network. I don't use any pay tv or even any other than free to air. We being Aussies use cold water to wash clothes and line dry. Even in winter we dry inside I buy no name grocery items and never order take away. Also have a french press for coffee ! I am now vegetarian. Can you please post some recipes ? Thanks.
