Great content, as always, guys! Brazilian here who really appreciates all your valuable lessons. It's a privilege to watch your videos. Keep them coming!
Great coach. You have improved my game. Just the fundamentals clearing the net, breathing and tracking the ball. Also the strategy of going cross court with volleys and down the line when approaching is amazing.
All super recommendations. Number 5, knowing then to go down the line or go cross court is essential. The breathing tip is huge and an uncommon tip you’ll hear as a beginner since it’s a micro technicality. Every lesson for every coach should begin with, exhale as you swing 🤣😂😅 Also all continental grip for volleys!!!! All 7 are awesome tips. I could (probably should) watch this video 10 times. Thank you so much Coach Simon!
I grinned at that too. Still, I want to point out that the racquet's position and angle at contact don't fully determine the shot yet. The racquet's momentum is also essential to spin and speed. You can't generate a fast topspin forehand or a firm smash off a soft incoming ball just by getting the racquet in the right place. It doesn't add any kinetic energy to the ball. If you want to do more than just use and redirect some of the incoming power, the racquet needs to be moving in the right way too. That's much of the reason we have all that takeback, after all.
I’d look to approach into the weaker wing in that case, if the opponent has a solid backhand and forehand, I’d approach into the middle to reduce their angles
Great video! I have started changing the approach shot as you indicated, and yes, I can see the improvement when going to the net: quicker approach and more effective volley. This video has become my reference every practice match I play. Thanks!
I have one problem with watching the ball at all times. Don't I also benefit from reading my opponent's shot preparation? I can obviously anticipate a lot of shots from the rally situation, but shouldn't I also take the other player's setup into account? How can I see that while watching only the ball? Or is it OK to watch the opponent briefly before contact and then quickly get back to watching the ball? That's what my coach suggested.
If you’re tracking the ball properly, you’ll see the opponent set up with your peripheral vision. That will give you clues, but ultimately they may set up and deceive you, so it’s better to wait until the strike and actually see where they hit than guess and go the wrong way
Dear Simon this lesson is great....tells many things in a nutshell...i am your regular follower for many months, really appreciate the work you are doing for betterment of the game around the globe. Love from India. Dr Mukesh Joon, Interventional Cardiologist . Delhi
Hi simon i realize things are stylistic, but would you say most pros hit with a closed racket face at contact/strings slightly pointed down at the moment of impact for the atp forehand?
When going for more topspin, the strings will be angled slightly for sure, although it's very minimal. When hitting flatter, the strings will be more square on to the net
Yes Simon these are solid tips bro. Especially the back to the middle one I feel. Sometimes u just have to read the ball and predict where they going once u are good at it so I agree with u there
Hey Simon, as always great stuff to improve our tennis. Please unveil where I could find this so scenic tennis-court where you train with the ballmaschine - looks like paradise!!!
#1 tracking the ball 💯. I work with lots of kids who are new to tennis. I like to see them throwing and catching bouncing balls before we even pick up rackets. The ones who show good instincts for finding the ball and catching it with both hands are the ones who advance quickest - not the ones with the strongest swings. Advice to parents of very young players: play catch with your kids!
It could be, I always feel it's a better mistake if you miss long or wide when comparing that to the net. But at the end of the day, a mistake is a mistake, so hitting long or wide has the same impact as hitting the net. We should hate errors, I know I do haha
There are three deadly sins in Tennis imho (in my humble opinion) and not tracking the ball is one of them You are right there coach. Still a great video. Thanks!
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial In my world of tennis the other two would be stamina and positioning. Cheers and once again thank You for a very good video.
Cross court is to the opposite side of the center line from where you are, down the line is to the same side. And who cares? You knew what he meant and color is kinda subjective anyway.
Mark - it took me roughly 15 hours to make this lesson. If it wasn’t as clear as you would like it, sorry about that but for 99% of the viewers, they understood it clearly
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I'm really appreciate your time. Your video is one of the best. The breathing part really working for me . I'm just want to give you feed back. Might be my point is someone don't know what obviously for you or most your viewers, like approach shot, ground stroke. For you or most viewer know you mean ground stroke is baseline, but I thought ground stroke is the bouncing back ball, not only at baseline.
