As is typical of your tutorials, outstanding guidance coupled with real world examples of why they are necessary. The time we spent working on my environment was the best money I’ve invested. Immediate positive results.

Appreciate the way you explain things:))Thank YOU.. I've been a bit overwhelmed by the post work and your analogy of word document helped a bit:).. ??I'm planning on recording with Garageband which is on my Mac as my best recording time is in AM when my husband is on his computer doing meetings. THEN, taking the VO recordings and hopping over to my husband's computer with Logic Pro to do post work:). Do you foresee any problems with this?:) Thank you:))
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB Месяц назад
No, not at all. I only suggest you ensure that the original audio capture you get on Garageband is entirely raw. As long as all the effects are off, you'll have a clean slate to work with in Logic Pro. When you're ready, send me a raw sample. I'd be happy to give you my suggestions for improving/processing.

@@HeyLennyB Thank you. That is incredibly generous:)). I'm rearranging studio now that school starting again:).. then, will send something..*I'm at the start of my journey.. so I haven't even bought any plugins and still need to learn Logic pro😂.. was considering a last investment (for now) of maybe older version of Izotopes rx for clicks.. yet, I'm really don't even know how to use plugins, yet.. sigh.. 1 step at a time..

Sir, I want to record my poetry professionally. Please tell me a microphone and audio interface that gives me professional quality. But my room is not sound proof. At night, the sound of a motorcycle and barking dogs comes in my room from outside. But I also want to do a professional recording. Please tell me. My budget is arround $350
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 2 месяца назад
There is no microphone that will sound great in a poorly treated room. If you want the best sound, I suggest you treat your room to try and remove the reflection sounds (in all frequency spaces) first. Then, any mic you use will sound better. This is the solution. Some mics might reject noise better than others. However, you still need to understand how sound travels to use it to it's potential. Sound proofing (or isolating yourself from outside noise) is not easy to achieve. You will find my acoustic treatment for voice training course valuable. The first chapter is free, and you can see it here: www.lennyb.com/acoustic-treatment-for-voice-over I hope this helps you. Good luck! Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the wonderful content. Hey so I live next to a very busy highway…. It’s almost busy every time of the day…. The least busiest time is at 2-3 am but trucks are always going up and down this highway. I also have a blue yeti mic..l What is your suggestion? I have been recording audio since 2018 but I can’t seem to master room treatment. I am going to invest in the styrofoam panels but what else do you think I should look into? Thank you again!

Will Windows laptops work just as well as Macs? I'm asking because there's a huge difference in price. Thanks!
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 2 года назад
Hi Sydney. It can, I'd just make sure that your choice of software is compatible first. In my experience, Windows machines work well with science and analytical type personalities. Mac are intuitive for more creative type personalities. That's my opinion. An investment in yourself and your passion is never a bad decision (unless causes financial hardship in other aspects in your life). Hope that helps!

Hello Lenny I currently use In ear monitors for monitoring specifically the moondrop Kato would that be good enough for voice over monitoring?
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 2 месяца назад
In-ear monitors might be suitable for monitoring yourself while recording. However, nothing will allow you to process or mix your recording better than balanced studio monitors in an acoustically treated room. Using anything less might give your ears a less-than-honest representation of what's been recorded. The problem becomes apparent when you EQ (or modify) your voice based on this untrue sound. You'll find it doesn't translate well on other playback systems (Car stereo, Bluetooth speakers, TV, etc). I hope this helps.

Hey Lenny, would you be willing to set up a Manley Voxbox for me and take a look at my current stack in Audition?
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 3 месяца назад
Hi @TheMiracleMcgee, I'd be happy to review your Adobe Audition Stack. Here's what I suggest: Send me a raw file (with your mic going directly to your audio interface, disconnecting the VoxBox), and I'll create a setting using only Adition. Then, once we agree on the sound you want, you can add the VoxBox and I'll make some suggestions on how to set it up. However, I need a raw, unprocessed file without your VoxBox first. Please follow the three steps on this page: www.lennyb.com/get-your-voice-processed-submission-form

@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB Год назад
Antoine, I'm going to give you an answer that is going to help you the most. The sound quality for a voice recording begins from the room. If your room is well treated, meaning no echo or reverb, any microphone will sound better. However, there's no microphone that will sound great in a poorly treated room. You can find a list of my most suggested microphones here: www.lennyb.com/equipment

Thank you very much for this great video! Question: If I don’t have the possibilities to treat my room a lot in order to eliminate reflections, could it be helpful to record my voice overs with a Neumann KMS-105 handheld stage microphone, which has a more narrow recording angle? Or is it absolutely necessary to use a large diaphragm microphone? I also have an Audio Technica AT-4050 which I absolutely love to use, but even having the polar pattern switched to cardioid, a lot of 'room' bleeds into the recording. Using the Neumann, this problem is way more controllable. I would appreciate to hear what you think about it. 👍🏼🙂
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 3 года назад
Hi Omer. It depends on what your goals are. If you want to compete, you need competitive tools. Your recording space (the room you're recording in) is where the sound begins. I have a room treatment course coming out soon. Join the mailing list on my website to get notified when it's released. Good luck!
@romerbass2813
@romerbass2813 3 года назад
@@HeyLennyB Thanks a lot for this answer. But besides the room treatment topic - could you please tell me, if recording voice over with the KMS-105 can compete with the AT-4050 in principle? Are there any downsizes 'capsulewise'?
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 3 года назад
I'd expect both would sound good, just different. The KSM will be more mid focused but likely a bit better in the "non-treatment" situation. The AT-4050 will likely be more round, more "full" and will better capture detail and lower frequencies.

Does a more expensive audio interface produce better sound? Many professional voice over artist use _Universal Audio_ which is not cheap. What do you think?
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 3 года назад
Hey Scrum Master In Black, that's a great question. The Apollo platform is different. It's more expensive because it also includes on board processing (DSP). In basic terms you can process audio (EQ, Compression and more) in realtime, while you're recording. Additionally, you can choose to record the processed audio or record the unprocessed audio while you are hearing the processed audio. I use Universal Audio's Twin interface for that very reason. Universal Audio has also teamed up with many of the famous brands to create modeled software versions of coveted hardware equipment that is especially adored by studio musicians and voice over artists alike. For these reasons, it is more expensive. I'd say that you really can't describe the Apollo interface sounds "better" than other interfaces. It offers more options. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!!
@scrummasterinblack
@scrummasterinblack 3 года назад
@@HeyLennyB hey thanks for the elaborative explanation. Interesting that Apollo system have on board DSP. Can it work as a standalone voice recorder? The problem I found with USB based audio interface is it needs to be plugged to a computer which means the mic will likely pick up the computer fan noise.
@HeyLennyB
@HeyLennyB 3 года назад
It can't be used without being connected to a computer. The computer fan noise is a common issue. You'd need to solve that issue by either keeping your room 66 degrees so your computer doesn't trigger the fan, place your computer in an isolation box, or position your microphone far from your computer. If those aren't options for you, you may look into a digital field recorder. I use the H6 Zoom and it sounds fantastic.
