You can visit O'Waka's and Wantz's sister actually. The first time you visit the Thunder Plains, if you choose to rest in the Travel Agency after Rikku's presistance. As soon as you exit the place, Wantz will come and quickly snap a picture of the group before running off. Despite the direction he ran, if you go back to Guadosalam, you'll find Waltz in the Farplane talking to his sister's spirit as he shows her the picture he took of Yuna
That's a fascinating detail! It's so cool that the writers who worked on Final Fantasy X introduced so many small details like this, it just makes the game so special. ~Darryl
Personally, 10 has my favorite battle system of any FF. I love being able to see where my party stands and how different attacks and spells will change attack order in the right column. It felt very tactical and allowed using faster characters with First Strike to be immediately swapped for slower, heavy hitters if you needed a big damage rush early on. Great system, would love to see it come back.
Problem with this system is that later in the game when you have ultimate weapons and sphere grid is completed, CTB becomes redundand, and fight with bosses more or less relies on counter-attacks and auto-attacks since even Penance has a turn every 10-15 slots. IMHO CTB is too generous to the player but FFX is known for being quite easy game.
@@DonPrecedens i think you could honestly just simplify it down to the fact it makes the game too easy at any stage of the game. it gives more potential for perfect play, and knowing you'll play a fight perfectly several turns ahead. It's the same problem legend of dragoon had, but amplified by knowing exactly what the turn order is. you could make an argument for accessibility, but it honestly could have been tuned better. its a stat check game, so it's not like it would have been a big ask to have 2 difficulty settings either.
@@ericofire While it does display turn order, it doesn't take into account enemy moves that delay player attacks or status ailments that slow/freeze the player. It shows you the turn order in a perfect world but that's it; unless you can perfectly anticipate the enemy's AI, CTB is just a reference sheet. That being said, FFX is a pretty easy FF, for sure, and the CTB doesn't make it any harder. "Perfect play" though? Nah.
Its also my favorite system by far. I just can't get anything out of those action based button mashing stressing systems. I really adored the tacticality of this system. Sometimes you really had to stop for a few seconds and think about your next moves in order not to get crushed by a bosses possible powerfull attack. Also loved the mathematical effect you could quite clearly see when progressing on the sphere grid. The only other battle system i really liked was the one from 12. But this game had no relevant story at all which was really sad. The setting was great and the world and characters too. But the story just had no depth at all. It is really sad how the franchise is turning out. I loved every (offline) game from 7 to 12 but from this point on I just couldn't bring myself to enjoying the following games. Never even touched 15 for that reason. I am not sure about 7s remake yet. Haven't played it and the story is obviously great, but again the battle system just looks way to stressfull to be enjoyable.
This is why Seymour is a fantastic antagonist. He is truly the opposite of Yuna. Both being summoner half-breed children of high-profile fathers. Seymour was sent to Baaj, a cold, dark, desolate temple and grows up alone. Yuna is taken to Besaid, it's total opposite, and is guided by friends and the town.
Oh that's excellent! It's interesting that Yuna has the famous father and legacy in common with Tidus. And at the same time she has the similarities you mentioned with Seymour. Some deliberate theming there by the writers.
As a note: Idk where I got the knowledge but it seems likely that Baaj was until relatively recently a thriving temple and when Seymour arrived it was a relatively normal place. Eventually, after he left and enshrined his mother there, the place was destroyed by Sin.
FFX was a breath of fresh air using South Asian world building elements instead of the typical medieval European world style. I hope Square does that again I believe it's time to experiment with other parts of the world.
This is totally one of the reasons I bought and intend to play Cris Tales. While it's been reported that it's not very mechanically consistent, it apparently draws on a lot of cultural and aesthetic elements from Colombian culture-being a Columbian made game, and all. And I'm so fucking here for that. We've gotten a ton of of cross cultural pollination between Japan, the US, and western Europe through games. But there is a wealth of other cultures making games, and I want to experience what they have to teach and say too.
I always tear up when Tidus tells Jecht "I hate you" in person. He means "I love you", he understands his father much better, he knows it was really his mother that was absentee. Sure, Jecht wasn't perfect as a celebrity dad, but he was the one pushing Tidus' mother to take care of Tidus when she preferred to ignore her child. So much emotion was communicated in that one line, that Tidus wanted to see his dad one more time, if only to say "I hate you", even if the words didn't carry their objective meaning anymore. Fantastic game.
I always took "I hate you" as almost a "I hate that this was the version of you I got". That there was this version of Jecht he could have known and he never got to. And it just dawned on him that his dad was in his corner the whole time.
Yeah. Jecht is written so freaking well. I started the game hating him, but then I started searching for the spheres to unlock Auron's overdrives. I ended up crying in the end of the game due to that
FFX is still by far the most well rounded FF game. I'm pretty sure it's because they put so much thought into every aspect. It's sad to think we're unlikely to see this level of effort put into everything in future FF's, simply because the scale demanded of each game is too vast to feasably put that much attention into each detail.
@@TheToasterbox I'm sure things like the Regalia mount fit in very well with the rest of the world. MMO's suffer from cross-overs... As do other modern single player games with their "games as a service" approach.
@TheToasterbox I can't speak for FfXIV, but this didn't age well for FFXVI. Until they actually decide to do.something other than medieval fantasy again, they will struggle. If they could manage to pull off a FFXIII that wasn't linear or a good mix of things like FFXV, more people would be back into it. Right now, I am looking at other SE projects and other JRPGs from other publishers for my fix.
Everytime i replay this masterpiece i always discovered something new and for a game that came out for 2 decades ago and i've been replaying for countless times. It tells something. Thanks for keeping the 'dreams' alive.
@@Leo-jb9bn Seriously when even Valefor is like the end of the world times 10 what do you even do??? I've never even seen Dark Bahamut or Anima... do those exist?
Still an iconic game. Filled my heart and mind with such joy as a child and it still does today. I don’t get bored of the story or the features or the music to this day.
FFX still to this day, has the best OST. The only game that has captured my ear (runner up was threads of fate). Every track was a gem. If it wasn’t the gameplay, it was the sound that kept me playing.
The last fact about the writing on the Baaj temple floor was awesome. FF X was my first Final Fantasy and I even completed the sphere grid, including deleting all the +1 to +3 stat upgrade fields with clear spheres and replacing them with +4 stat fields, with every character. I had the official guide book and tried to do everything in this game, but I had no clue about the signs on the Baaj temple floor and what they meant. It adds a lot to the story and makes it more relatable.
@@shaunswift688 No, it is way faster if you use all the available farming methods for the various spheres needed and there is also a method to gain 99 sphere levels per fight. I had played roughly 180 - 200 in game hours when I was finished. It is just very repetitive.
@@jokerbat12 try to get every character to have a turn, even if your just up against a flan or two. love or hate certain characters, it helps to have them all on the sameish level of progress
nice! i got everything but the 5 chest chocobo race F that... but i maxed everyone sphere grid with break HP limit. max luck etc. 4 / 7 ribbons i believe
His motives are becoming very clear also. He was neglected by everyone and the only person that loved him sacrifiecd herself so he can become a summoner. For him Spira was a place of betrayal and corruption which would only be stopped by the near death expirience that is Sin and even that is a illusion created by the church. He sounds like a lunatic but in his worldview he kind of brought salvation to the people of Spira and his Plan was not just straight evil but his act of mercy.
@@TheMetastasia Right. Most villains, even real-life ones, are just abused, traumatized people. It doesn't make their actions right, but you can't help but sympathize, emphasize, and pity them.
There’s still so much to Spira we need to see. They could do the machina war prequel, the braska prequel, or even a sequel where the main cast become aeons. Imagine Titus as Leviathon, Kimahri as Griever, etc. Spira is definitely in my top 3 fantasy scapes. They built it out so well.
@@rhettbaldwin2417 with guest party appearances from Kinoc, Cid, young Kimahri and kid Seymour. Fully realized Bevelle + epic final battle as Final Aeon Jecht. Sin could take a totally different appearance and personality too. I love the idea.
@@MarketCipher1 x-2 came out like back in 2003 the game is literally older than me and theyve done nothing to make a much wanted x-.5 or x3 or something. now im not saying they wont make it, and im also giving the defense of making other ff games but the fans are really wanting a x3 or a x.5 or something of the sort and they havent.
So, did Seymour and his mother begin their pilgrimage when he was only 8 years old? Then did they make it all the way to Zanarkand for her to become his Final Aeon, only for him to run away back to the Baaj temple? I never quite understood Seymour's timeline...
You don’t have to become a final aeon to become an aeon. Anima, Seymour’s mother, became a fayth at Baaj temple in order to help him on his pilgrimage in a more meaningful way, i think.
Pretty much, his mother became the fayth for the final aeon, but he turned and ran away. He eventually came back to Zanarkand when he was older, and relocated Anima's fayth to Baaj temple
Final fantasy X was my first ps2 game my 1st voiced game an my 1st emotional moment with a game an i was 6 years old this game is not meant for people that young with wut this game tackles i could only understand so much with my mom explaining it to me it wasn't until i became a teenager and replayed this game again that i understand everything an how much emotion the story and acting brings up this is my favorite game of all time and i hoped we can get that 3rd entry to bring this amazing story to it's conclusion 😁
Isolated because he is not a pure guado Abandoned because his mother wanted him to become strong Alone because nobody can talk to him Seymour Guado, the malevolent pure of hatred not because his selfish wish but his hatred for world itself for taking his only family he had, his own mother. His father just adding more fuel to the flames of hatred since him unlike Braska, Jyscal keep his reputation and status rather than taking care his family properly.
I'd love to see a video on just the sphere grid - that ONE mechanic has influenced so, so, so many game designers that to this day you still see the sphere grid in various forms. Path of Exile's leveling and progression is just the sphere grid expanded.
X is probably the best Final Fantasy game. When you consider the era, and technical limitations of the day FF X was an amazing experience. It was my first serious JRPG, starting a lifetime of enjoyment.
I feel similarly about VII. It was the first game that I owned and completed, beginning a love for the JRPG genre that has never faded. And it was a similar feat for the hardware of it's time. I consider them both to be some of the greatest examples of pushing hardware and narrative to new heights within the genre.
I don’t know if they ever specified what happened to Baaj Temple but my theory is that after Seymour acquired Anima, he summoned her to destroy Baaj Temple in a fit of rage.
@@xGorefieldx It's a spambot, it steals comments to avoid the spam filter and then replaces the profile pic with some generic camslut and starts spamming chats.
I took Seymour for granted as a villain as just “the annoyingly evil dude who won’t die” but I’m glad he’s much better than I remember him to be when reminded how we was forced into this position through hatred isolation and sacrifice
I hope the tattoos idea gets to be used one day, sure cosmetic changes are nothing new on RPGs but as a fan of tattoos it sounds like coolest idea ever
I just love this game. I own it on ps2, have the collectors edition of the HD remake with the artbook for ps3, and the version for ps vita. Ive finished all three copies and constantly replay them! I want to own a copy for every console its been released on. If any game can be considered “timeless” this would have to be the one.
Same! I have it for every platform including PC. I bought the switch version for my wife, but I’m still planning on getting the Japanese import, since it comes with X2 physically.
I find it weird that O'aka and Wantz want to aid Yuna I whatever way they can, maybe because she reminds them of their sister, but then doesn't even give a discount before fighting Evrae. He just believes you will win and save everyone on the ship. What great support.
8:25 as a long time wrestling fan and a hardcore FFX fanboy I can say without a doubt that is the coolest holy grail of a piece of FFX memorabilia in existence
Possibly my favourite game of all time. Certainly in the top 3. Just the first note of the music at the start of this video pulled at my heart and soul 😍
Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts were iconic when they came out was such a good time for video games last time that I can remember having to fight with myself over what game I wanted to play because there were just too many options
I had played 120+ hours of this game upon its original release on PS2. I would say I had completed at least 95% of the game, including capturing all of the monsters, defeating Penance and all of the Dark Aeons. I never dodged 200 lightning strikes or maxed out the sphere grid for all of the characters, but apart from those two things, there wasn’t much that I didn’t complete, yet I did not know any of the things mentioned in this video. Thank you for providing this insightful view of this wonderful game
Played this game sine I was in third grade at elementary school, have 100%'ed it, have platinum. Let's see if this list hits 1. Did not know about the scrapped tattoo system 2. Didnt know that there even was a proper spira-alphabet 3. Didnt know about the WWF ads 4. Knew, but had forgotten 5. Didnt know. Very interesting, as Im a fan of Arc too
This game is a gift that keeps on giving. I am always still in awe when I think what they created at that time. Thank you for diving into this for us. I didn’t know anything about the writing on the floor. Also so interesting to know the online idea was inspired by Everquest.
The world-building in FF10 is incredible. It's a setting I always want to know more and more about. Thanks for all these facts and looking forward to more in the future
I really enjoyed this video. I loved the first 2 facts considering ive always been a fan of the progression system of the sphere grid. It made levelling up a lot more fun, and the second one because i am a fan of professional wrestling :)
I just realized that when you run away after fighting Seymour the first time and the Wendigo, under the temple you are actually on top of Sin as the broken down buildings on Sin are there and the rock formation is similar to Sin's fins. BUUUUUUUT I could be wrong.
This game (with the sequel) I personally think deserves a remake that tells the same story but makes the game even bigger. I've always loved this world and just want more of it.
Just when you think you know almost everything there is to know, there's always more being discovered or brought to light. This game really makes you appreciate every little detail that was put into it, even decades later. That is one of the many reasons why this is still my favorite game to this day.
One small detail that few people tend to know about FFX is that although most Blitzball techniques are able to be techcopied, “anti-drain” appears to not be possible to techcopy. The A.I. will not equip it unless manipulated to do so by the player equipping it to a blitzball player and releasing them, will only leave it equipped for the first half of a match, and it doesn’t seem to share a techcopy window with the other “anti-skills,” and doesn’t seem to have a window at all, not providing even a sound queue to confirm a player inputted a techcopy. It’s especially curious why this oversight is left in all versions of the game, including the HD remaster, as it is a key technique for a good number of players
I was always under the impression that Seymour didn't fail his pilgrimage but that he decided not to face sin with his final aeon. He wanted to become someones aeon so that he could in turn become sin. I have no idea if this is accurate but wouldn't it be wild if he used Anima to kill his father. Sick.
Only game that makes me cry everytime I play it also makes me feel old considering it came out over 20 years ago jesus I knew tidus was a spirit but with Auron I was like wait what
You can't really fault Seymour for the man he became. The culture he was born into hated him since irth for something he jad no control over, and then his father, the one Guado who had stood up for him finally abandoned him. Rhen to top it all of his mother, the one last pillar of support he had left, chose to sacrifice herself to give Seymour power when that was probably the last thing he needed.
I've been playing final fantasy since I was five. I'm almost 21 now and I've played this game over and over. I never thought anything about wantz taking Yuna's picture, now it all makes sense. 😳 🤯
I find it quite cool that they made the FF 10 game online it's like having FF 11 in their time and also I really thought you were going to release a FF7 story or something because of their anniversary haha and we need more facts about FF series haha
I am not sure you still do this channel. However i just stumbled across it. You are awesome!!! I love how much you love this series!! I know i do!! Been a hugh fan since the NES days as a child. Thank you for all your amazing work. Big fan here of yours!!
Figured I'd bring this up. Did you know there's a missable Scene with Dona and Barthello if you head straight back to the Zanarkand's Cloister of trials after the battle with Yunalesca? Beat the game 7-8 times and never saw that.
I still remember getting up and going into town super early to get a PS2 and ffx.haha ended up calling in sick to work that day and spent all day playing the game.
i just beat the remaster a couple weeks ago. it was the first time playing ffx since my ps2 days. very interesting video, and if i wasn't unsettled about seymour before, i am more now lol
