I feel like the reason for most of these creatures being phased out slowly is due to the game no longer being based solely off D&D, which in FF1 and the other earlier titles, took a great deal of inspiration.
It's certainly one reason, but another reason is due to a lot of the more recent titles going for more hardcore realism and sci-fi. Notable examples include: Final Fantasy XIII had several classical monsters that appeared in concept art get scratched due to not fitting in with Cocoon's futuristic environment, and Gran Pulse's semi-futuristic Nomadic environment. Surprisingly still had the Ochus from DnD. Final Fantasy XV in particular aimed to avoid classic fantasy due to Tabata's insistence that the game needed by 100% grounded in reality, with many of the creatures being based on those seen in real life. Final Fantasy VII Remake also is one that aimed to be more grounded in realism with many fantasy creatures that were originally random encounters in the PS version regulated to bosses to avoid looking out place in the modern sci-fi environment of Midgard. Luckily games like Final Fantasy XIV, XII, and XI kind of still have/had a lot of classic enemies appear, even if in name only.
So much respect for this redux! I recognize that a significant portion of these details come from the MMOs, both of which have an absolutely absurd quantity of content to scour through. And, well, let's just say that I do not envy the standards that you guys hold yourself to! Thanks for making the content extra great!
I have to admit, it wasn't until this redux that I realized that Omega and Omega Weapon were different entities. The explanation here makes a lot more sense, although it doesn't really make the difference any less confusing!
Great update on Omega! Very impressed you actually updated the video. Liked and subbed for the good effort. Honestly, your point about Omega changing into Omega weapon in the FF14 raid seemed like that was just a normal part of Omega, something it was always capable of. Omega Weapon in FF8 has a similar enough design to Omega in FF5, just a centuar version. I always counted Omega Weapon as an iteration of Omega.
I do like the update of Omega as well. I do feel Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy VI Advanced should be mentioned as it is a pallet swap of Ultima Weapon and does not deviate from the Omega Weapon aesthetic.
Nice! I’m happy that FFTA wasn’t overlooked here. FFTA is simply one of my favorite games of all time and I wish it was looked at more often by most reviewers.
Shout out to the FF Union crew for the extra work put into this video! You didn't have to take that extra effort to incorporate those missing details but you did it and we love you for it ❤
Great video! I'm currently finishing my second playthrough of FFXV, and was surprised to see Omega Weapon pop up in an area of the Crown City at the end of the game. I don't remember it being there when I played through the first time (which was before all the updates back in 2017), so I thought you might be interested to know big boi has been brought back! :)
Good job on the redux version ! ^^ Just wanted to add for the cockatrix, as in FF15 they are in FF11 too (and with the petrify breath ) named "Cockatrice" :) And with your video, i discovered after almost 20 years that the insectoid monsters are called ant-lion, not anti-lion .... better late than never ! lol
Awesome update to the (recently released) original! I watched it again to catch everything. I wouldn't have even known things were omitted but it really says a lot about your character to put the facts out there where they need to be, given new information. Props, man.
I'd like to add my voice to the people who commended you for going back and working on this vid. You made some mistakes in the original, you took full responsibility, and corrected them, kudos!
Actually, Kraken refers to the octopus family of mobs in FFXI, which includes NMs such as Charybdis which guards the Joyeuse sword, which has a "double attack" trait of 40%. Meaning out of ten melee swings, four of those swings will be double attacks.
I'm so glad you updated this video so quickly! I must admit, I was very disappointed and considered unsubbing after the big errors in the previous version. FFXIV was my introduction to Final Fantasy and is still my favourite game of all time, so seeing the disregard for it with the misinformation in the original video hurt somewhat. But the fact that you took the time to create this redux video, and so quickly, has definitely cemented my continued sub and support :)
The fact that I missed FF11 at it's height will always be one of my greatest regrets. Everything I see about it, to have been able to play it from the beginning 😭😭😭 My god, I can dream, I can dream.
Yeah red dragons are intimidating, but that gas dragon sprite from FF1 gave me nam flashbacks and unbridled rage. If those bastards kill your white mage in the last dungeon you’re fucked.
I’d love to see the chocobo eaters return. Maybe like a spin off chocobo rancher game? 🤔 dunno. They may have shown up in more than just FFX, but that fight was always interesting and enjoyable to me
Wait. Didn't FF5 have some variation of "weapon" (Atma?) just before (in the middle of) entering The Rift (just before Gilgamesh pt 3)? Between Atmos, Atma, and Ultima localizations, I've lost track as to which is which :(
Great video as always. So I tried clicking the Spotify but it doesn't go to the Playlist. Can anyone tell me the name of this particular song. Would love to listen to it while I study. Thanks.
@@bradgrigsby1653 yes, np, particular song is "Force Your Way" (#76 on playlist: open.spotify.com/playlist/6E1xmKvbojnG3HjzVNVyyv) (#6 on album: open.spotify.com/album/1zcykEOEVYqBhxI6D6On8X)
Where is that cgi footage of what appears to be the FF1 WoL slicing a fireball in half from? It’s during the Red Dragon section, at the 02:00 minute mark.
not gonna lie, i didnt even realise dragons had stopped being used, i always assumed there was a dragon enemy in every game because they are so prevalent in fantasy settings.
Weird, I've never beaten a single Omega, but I played through and defeated all the Omega Weapons. Neat. Also Marilith is a mainstay reused boss in DFFOO. But it doesn't count because DFFOO has everyone! Except Riku, and almost the entire cast of FFT.
Everyone should have to go through the panic thought of "when tf did I last saved" after getting tentacled by a Malboro. Helps building up character and teaching lessons about hygine^^
One Enemy that I laughed my ass off when I saw it was FFXV's take on the Garula. I hadn't seen it since 5, and there it is in all it's derpy 3-d glory. For all the shit people [including myself] give 15, with one glaring exception [the croc-sahagin] its take on classic monsters like Coeurls, Mindflayers, Garulas, Catoblepas, Dual Horns, Bombs, Goblins and Iron Giants [the ones I have seen so far] are spot-on. I would love to se a 15 de-make using its art assets over the FFXII gameplay engine.
Am I the only one who always treated Omega and Omega Weapon as the same enemy? Why would you consider them as something different when they clearly share the same role of an end-game superboss, they share the name and they never share a game. It's as if the developers were pointing out they are the same thing. We have so many different versions and designs for Bahamut, including somewhat different names and lore implications yet no one ever questions that each and every one is a Bahamut. You see a Bahamut, you know it's a Bahamut. Why can't it be the same for Omega? If it has Omega in the name, it's an Omega. No need to make it any more confusing. Fan base is literally the only cause for any confusion happening here.
Great video i want to make a statement ive played all the ff's from 5 to 12 i loved this series but things started going downhill imo after ff10 the drop of turn based fighting killed the series character and appeal for me. Im certain theres many out there liking the action approach and i dont blame em but it looks terrible and almost certainly killed my interest ro the series. I grew up with these games it was very hard for me to see them go like this.

You guys deserve massive amounts of respect, specially considering that you simply just overlooked some things, yet took the time to correct it. I know youtubers that have made massive errors and simply decide to leave it as is because, and I quote, "It would be too much work and we're busy". Plus, another FF Union video is always welcomed.
I'm deeply surprised, when i first spoted this video i thought you'd just added in text massages correcting some errors but you really reworked it and that just shows how dedicated you guys are, thank you and i think a lot of people appreciate this, please keep up with the good work
Uhh, didn't notice anything wrong with the first version of this video. I mean, good for some corrections, but I believe that the first video was just as good as this version.
@@Walamonga1313 Some of the information relating to FFXIV was incorrect, such as saying the worms and antlions weren't in it, when they're actually in it quite near the beginning of the game.
Channels like OutsideXtra will (and have) made mistakes like in the previous release of this video and ignored all criticism and kept going. But you guys? You went back and accounted for it, and that is why you're the best, and why I'm proud to be a subscriber. Stay awesome guys!
how exactly does "hasn't been seen for exactly one main numbered game that is still one of the most played games in the series" equate to "fallen into obscurity"? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the care put into acknowledging the storeyed history of traditional FF monsters that date all the way back to when FF was just a D&D knockoff, but really. I don't think when the last game we saw them in is the game immediately before the current released game, you can call it "obscurity."
Holy shit, this is great! Would that other RU-vidrs, particularly gaming RU-vidrs, showed more humility and willingness to own up to and correct errors. I once pointed out a minor error in a video produced by a certain "foreign kuribo" (*ahem*), and in a later video in which he had apparently been planning to use the same content he reworded it so as to "fudge" the information and not admit to having made a mistake in the first place, but by fudging it he just made the error worse. I fully expected this to be the "standard" way of reacting to constructive criticism in this part of the Internet, but this has very much restored my faith. Kudos to you, FFU, and many more to come. That being said, I should probably offer a word of advice if you are going to produce these redux videos in the future. It might be better to wait at least a week or so. I am not sure how long the editing on this version took, but it seems likely that it was already in the works when I made my comment on the other video. If, say, you repeated an error in the redux version that hadn't been pointed out by anyone in the two short days the original video was up before this one, it would be very an awful waste not to be able to incorporate that correction in a video you went out of your way to re-edit and re-upload. If the haste was because you didn't want more comments coming in about the same errors in the short term, I wonder if a better solution might not be to post a notice that a revised version is in the works in the video description or even the video title (I understand that the latter is something channel owners can do..?).
The enemy designs have certainly started to become a bit sanitised in recent games. The Sahagins in FFXV for example. Lost virtually all of their fantasy/mythological aesthetic and are basically upright reptiles.
The part of the worms, in the first video he said that the worms weren't present in the MMOs (FFXI and FXIV) but they were, so he fixed it in this new version.
