I'm doing a low spend challenge this month and it's going very well. I wanted to update my bathroom and I found a couple of items at Goodwill and it only cost me $4 and the update looks amazing

I just remembered, during the summer, some movie theaters show free kids movies one day a week. We have enjoyed those a few times.

We’ve been a no/low spend challenge especially on groceries…but now that we have have my dad with us in hospice care we are having some grace allowing him to have his favorites. Thankfully most of what he is craving is fresh produce that is in season and on sale.

When I attend a craft show, I add the cost of the table rental and to and from gas prices into my craft sales.Make many DIY crafts.❤

Great tips. I’m trying hard to do a strict no spend month. I’ve been going through the motions for the summer of doing it, but sometimes I break down and will get some junk food. It’s not out of hand, but I want to get stricter. I have been strict about not getting my hair or nails professionally done, and I haven’t bought any clothes since the start of summer and just nothing absolutely non essential or that isn’t a cheap food product.

I would say to buy organic milk which lasts for almost a month, no more throwing away spoiled milk. Also organic is actually more nutritious and keeps you filled up longer, you might just give up snacking all together

0:24 I work at a library, so I read a lot of books. Most go in one ear and out the other (as it were), but one of the books that really struck me and stuck with me once I read it is "The 21-Day Financial Fast" by Michelle Singletary. It really forces you to stop and think about needs vs. wants, and whether money (or lack thereof) is ruling your life; and it provides actionable steps towards better money management based on each day's theme. I've attempted the fast on several occasions, and even though I don't always complete it successfully, I've always seen financial benefit and gained more insight into my spending habits. It's eye-opening, if nothing else - definitely give it a try. 2:43 On the topic of DIY-ing, my dad has saved my family hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years (maybe even a million!) because he's capable of fixing just about anything. Cars, appliances, heat/AC units, household repair - he can do it all. The advent of the internet only increased his capabilities. Because he has enough baseline knowledge, if there's something he doesn't know how to fix, he can watch tutorials on RU-vid and assess whether the poster knows what they're talking about, and follow that. Literally the only time he won't fix something is if a) he doesn't have the time due to something else going on, or b) it requires a specialized tool or piece of equipment he can't justify purchasing for just one job. One of my biggest life regrets is that it didn't occur to me to learn those skills from him back when I lived at home. I'm trying to rectify that now, but the distance makes it tricky. To any parents/spouses/children of these handy people, make a point to at least observe them working, or better yet, actually help out (even if it's just handing them tools, to start). You'll pick up more than you think. And of course, as a librarian, I highly recommend visiting your local library: there are TONS of books on DIY, from the very broad little-bit-of-everything books, to books specifically on certain types of DIY, such as plumbing or woodworking. Check them out.
