In this travel vlog, I show you my 7 hour Vietnam sleeper bus journey from Saigon to Phan Rang in a 17 minute video. I go over the highlights of the trip, and give you some essential tips about sleeper bus travel in Vietnam.
For anyone considering traveling to Vietnam, sleeper buses are a great, low-cost option for getting from one destination to the next.
Sleeper buses are a budget travel hack that can save you a lot of money in comparison to flights. For bigger people like me they are also a lot more comfortable than taking flights in economy class.
I show you the trip from beginning to end, including a rest stop where you’re let off the bus to take a bathroom and meal break, and stock up on any snacks and drinks that you might like.
There are different classes of sleeper buses, and they range in price based on how nice and comfortable the bus is. This was a higher range “limousine” bus that had flat, large beds, blankets, pillows, and a complimentary snack and drink bag.
The total round trip cost for this trip was 1.5 million VND or about $61.50. The trip is 200 miles each way, and for about $30 each way this seems like a pretty solid value for the price.
The best part about a comfortable sleeper bus like this one is that the name doesn’t lie: you are able to sleep. You can lie fully down with a blanket and pillow, and sleep comfortably for the entire journey. For me, this is worth spending possibly a little bit of extra time versus flying somewhere.
Also, these sleeper buses serve areas that don’t have major airports. In this video I travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Rang in Ninh Thuan Province. The closest airport to here would be in Nha Trang which is about a two hour drive away. It makes way more sense to take a sleeper bus here when you figure in the amount of time you need to arrive early to the airport, check your bags, take the flight, etc.
Hopefully anyone interested in sleeper bus travel in Vietnam or South East Asia in general found this video useful. Hope you have a safe and memorable journey!
