You could do a video on the Lord of the Rings universe as well. JRR Tolkien was a professor of linguistics and he invented the Elvish language for his books.

Ooooh yes please!! 🙏😄 Awesome suggestion. Tolkien took influence from Celtic and Finno-Ugric languages as far as I understand, which lead to his creation of such beautiful and functional languages. It's amazing that one of the greatest fictional worlds was built on a foundation its languages instead of the other way around.

the canon reason that Yoda speaks like that is because when he was born the grammar was different

Fun video! Thank you! Personally, I like Mando'a. A very good language for insulting idiots with. Plus, Karen Traviss, who really fleshed out Mando'a, threw some British slang into it, such as "skraan" (or as we'd spell it, "scran"), meaning "food." The thing that bugs me about Aurebesh is that at one point, it had a cool expanded alphabet which also gave individual letters to sounds like CH, SH, TH, KH, NG, OO, Æ, and Œ, but they seem to have been almost entirely overlooked in recent years. When I did more research into it, I found a lot more odd letters that didn't make the cut, were seen in a weird form on only one screen in ROTJ, or were used in "Aureboo," so I made a chart called The Sookcool Aurebesh to catalogue them. Might not be official, but I had a lot of fun with it, at least, because I slipped some gags in there. There was a troupe of Andean musicians busking and selling CDs and tapes in the shopping precinct area of my hometown many years ago, so I bought their tapes and CDs, and when listening to them, I definitely recognised a fair few Quechua words and phrases that I'd previously heard coming out of Greedo's mouth. One of the biggest shocks was listening to the Nelvaans in Tartakovsky's "The Clone Wars" micro-series, and catching through the heavy vocal processing that I'd heard some of their words in the Three Stooges' "Maharishi" routine. I asked a foreign colleague of mine, and she confirmed that the Nelvaan language is based on Hungarian.

Artificial cinematographic languages are a great fun for linguists by giving them opportunity of running their own experiments of how a language can work in different situations. Some languages, like Na'vy and Klingon, even have become to grow and develop as a system. People form communities of "native" speakers and offer courses for new learners. I've read about a guy< a professional linguist, who had started to teach his newborn son Klingon to get him it as his first language. There were not so many words and expressions to use, but anyhow they managed to go on with it. Luckily the adequately thinking mother had taught a the child English. The boy grew up and almost forgot his "native" tongue, being just only occasionally using it to entertain girls. For my mind it would have been better to learn something real, like Avestan for example.

@Zane Goebel - Everyday Indonesian I believe it's a matter of sandboxing: they may may have picked up different curious aspects of the languages they had met, add their fantasy of how a language may work if yo change some of it's conditions, mix it all together and produce a result. So, all items they know about suffixes, prefixes, cases, genders and quantity aspects of nouns - all goes into play. What if to use singular, double, triple (providing the aliens had three eyes) and plural for nouns and cases? What might happen if to use styles of speech depending on genders, age, maturity, knowledge, etc.? What if to mix and add some extra aspects of verbs?... You name it. And pronunciation. I believe there may be a lot of other ways of producing sounds than we already know. Olly has shown it in this video. Then, of course, the important thing is community, a group of enthusiasts backing up new ideas. It's important to get the new language been developing like a living body. Anyway, in "Avatar" it has happened to work.

Amazing video for a Star Wars fan! Thanks for insight of these languages. Was very interesting to get some new information about Galactic languages. There are so many languages in the world to inspire someone to create a new language for the movie! I can't stop wondering and even if it feels like - oh, I saw so many different scripts and videos of differrent languages... nothing can surprise me! But then I find another language or script I haven't heard of! I think all my life won't be enough to get just a little glimpse of all languages of the world! By the way, jedi style suits you!

I read Wookieepedia. Sara Maria Forsberg, also known as SAARA, is a Finnish singer and RU-vidr who created the Jablogian language spoken by the Kanjiklubbers in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Her ability to mimic accents and speech melodies of different languages, which included Japanese, Estuary English, American with California accent, Swedish, French, Arabic and Spanish, using mainly nonexistent words, was praised by media in a number of countries. What I heard her speak in pseudo Finnish (her home language) sounds really convincing.

The whole having different accent things reminds me of the movie ‘Death of Stalin’. All the actors speak English in it but none do a bad Russian accent, instead they all speak with their regular accents. That means there is a mix of accents kind of how it would be in the Soviet Union, since there are so many different Russian accents in the Union.

@@storylearning You should do a video on Klingon. There's a woman who speaks it quite fluently and did all the dialogue for the new Star Trek series Discovery. It's actually quite impressively done. And the pronunciation is really good too by most of the actors, especially the guy who plays voQ. He nailed it! It's almost a pleasure to listen to him speak it. It's a funny language but when done well it's almost kind of beautiful. And again, the dialogue is impeccablely written.

If you want a language from Star Wars, then Mando'a is probably the only one developed enough so you can actually learn it. But nowhere near like Klingon from Star Trek. So your best bet would be Klingon, it has wealth of resources, online and offline and it is developed enough to actually hold a conversation in it, or read Hamlet in original Klingon as it should be :)

I think basic is the human language in wich you view the movie lol I don't remember quite well, when Bif Fortuna speak in an alien language in return of the jedi does he speak huttese or Twi'lek? Cuz many people pointed out the accent is nothing like when they speak basic (when they speak basic they have a french accent that Bib don't have) so it a bit confusing getting wich language he's using. Personnally I prefer Huttese cuz I just like to curse without people noticing (pretty much the same reason I like klingon). 😜

Fascinating! Although, in truth, I’ve always detested the Eewoks. And Jar Jar Binx too. They struck me as gratuitously disneyfied characters in an otherwise most un-disney saga. I mean, their cuteness alone was enough to deduce, from their very first appearance, that they would survive every last ordeal they faced with a nauseating degree of powderpuff luck. But I digress. All the languages created for the Star Wars universe are truly fascinating in their own right, despite the lack of a proper cuteness crushing demise for Jar Jar in the plot. Me so want him so fall down go boom! Oops! There I go again. Better end it here. Cheers, mate! -Phill, Las Vegas
