We've spent about 6-8 weeks working on one of our most epic projects ever. Building a miniature diorama inside of a 50 year old TV. We've packed it with fantasy characters, magic glowing things, blue crystals.... and about 25 pounds of clear cast resin. Yes... its that much.
Thanks again Viktor for stepping up on short notice making awesome figures for us!

Amazing! I really enjoyed this video, thank you! For everyone who wants to do something similar though, CRT tubes in televisions can be very dangerous! The tube can hold very high voltage (even when it has been turned off), and it is under a very strong vacuum. This means it can implode when it breaks, with glass going everywhere. Just felt like someone should point this out.
@peterlavelle3261
@peterlavelle3261 2 года назад
this should be pinned by Squidmar so everyone sees it before embarking on their own CRT-diorama ...the result of which is both stunning and highly original - so darn good it could tempt a younger generation unfamiliar with TVs from 20yr ago!

Their sponsorships have helped a ton of youtubers keep things running and do awesome projects, so I have really mixed feelings on them. I've read that resin shouldn't be degassed with a vacuum, as the resin can evaporate and never stop boiling until it's set. And the fumes can wreck your vacuum pump. Better to paint the surface of the mold with resin (to eliminate surface bubbles) and then do a high pour and stick in a pressure pot. Vacuum for the silicone bubbles > Pressure for the silicone to set at the pressure you plan to use it. Vacuum never for resin > Pressure for the resin to set with no bubbles
@tanterouge
@tanterouge 2 года назад
What I was going to write. Pressure pot for hard resins, vacuum chamber for rubber.
@facenameple4604
@facenameple4604 2 года назад
As I understand it, from watching a LOT of resin-prep stuff, that's wrong. Resin just holds a lot of bubbles and because it typically sets faster than silicone it's recommended to give it a pressure pot instead of a vacuum degassing.
@facenameple4604
@facenameple4604 2 года назад
Pressure pot is good for resins when you're doing small batches, vacuum degassing when you're doing large batches.

I don't know if it's because Emil hired really good people and the other guy hired worse, but I feel like Emil went from being slightly cringe to really hitting each video out of the park where as the other guy went from slightly awkward and goofy to just having not enough time for anyone while somehow having lower quality videos

As someone that does a lot of 3D printing, buy some clear resin. Pour enough to fill your vat into a container and use inks to get it the color you want. Saves a lot of time and headaches of trying to vacuum out and cast parts. Both the chest and ice crystals could have been done at the same time (And even pre-hollowed for the lights) saving you time. Still an amazing piece!

Im not saying ohh dont work with them, that’s obviously your decision but to me Raid is definetly a little iffy honestly, all these kinds of Gacha games are. There is some real addiction potential because of the Lootbox mechanics and the way the whole game is structured around them. The addiction works basically just like a „traditional“ gambling addiction. I really believe games like this need to be regulated a lot better/harsher. They should all be 18+ and there needs to be some prevention efforts like with actual gambling. But of course this is just my opinion.

Just a quick word of caution for anyone considering using an old TV for a project like this: CRT televisions contain some pretty dangerous voltages! Make sure everything is de energized before you go poking around too much in old electronics, capacitors can store energy even if the television is unplugged, learn what they look like and be safe.

You should have done what dice makers do, they use a pressure pot to shrink the bubbles. Plus the bare foam is porous, you should have painted them to get them glossy smooth. Your casting foam worked perfectly, it will pick up any small details. You should try machinist wax, after you are done casting you can melt down and reuse it.

For big pours like this, get deep cast resin. It hardens slower and produces less heat when hardening. The cracks and bubbles come from the heat when hardening, especially when using xps foam which can cause gasses to escape when heated which get released into the resin etc. If you get nasty cracks you can try to drill into them to make cavity and fill that with the next cast and hopefully the cracks become invisible.

Would be cool if one could just print the 3D models that they use for RAID as STL's..

Why print the miniature then cast it instead of just printing it in clear resin? Ive even digitally added pockets into models for leds before so the light source is right where it needs to be.

Not sure why it needed to be a resin pour project. The floating stats are neat but I find dioramas are way more clear when they're not all warped by resin.
