7 Locomotive Coal Train Goes Over Coal Train! Norfolk Southern Train Over CSX, Kenova West Virginia

Biggest Coal Train Ever With 7 Locomotives Passes Over Coal Train With Spirit Of Our Armed Forces Locomotive. Norfolk Southern Train On Trestle Passing Over CSX Coal Train Below It. Intermodal Train With 3 Locomotives, 2 CSX Coal Trains & 2 Norfolk Southern Coal Trains In Kenova, West Virginia. 5 Trains Are In This Video.
First, a CSX westbound coal train passes by and while it is passing a huge loaded coal train running eastbound on Norfolk Southern passes directly over it. That was perfect timing and luck! It's been a long time since I got an over and under shot. I rode to Kenova with Scott, 1960gambit and Joey from Adventures With Joey Boats. We had just got to Kenova when these two trains came.
Next we see an eastbound CSX coal train going under the bridge. After that a Norfolk Southern empty coal train passes westbound under the bridge on its way to the coal docks along the Ohio River in Kenova. This train was swapping out empties for loads. It came back later with a loaded coal train and that will be in Part 2.
The 5th train is a westbound Norfolk Southern intermodal train crossing over the bridge and going into Southpoint, Ohio on its way to Chicago. This is a huge double stack train that includes some 5 section articulated intermodal cars. It was hot this first day of summer 2024!! Temperatures were in the mid 90s and I wore my new Canadian Pacific hat sent to me by a retired railroader from Canada. Was that awesome or what?!

Cool to see not only 2 trains at the same time, but 2 hauling the SAME product ar the same time, one over and one under, BUT a triple DPU in the middle on top, and 2 pushing! Nice catch!!!!!

I wonder was the CSX coal train pulling _empties_ . Normally, a loaded coal train that long should have at least a DPU consist in the middle of the train.

Not many power plants are Go fired in the US. Those trains are headed for Norfolk Virginia where they have a Coal Port. They load ships to China etc Chinese our biggest user. Then India then a few others

I don't know what to say, JT! The first train had 204 +/- cars, and the second had 209. That's just amazing! Guessing the cars were loaded with 100 tons each that would mean between the two trains they were carrying over 82 million pounds of coal! Nearly unbelievable catch. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

When I was little, when we traveled from Michigan to West Virginia to visit family, it would be nothing to see multiple coal trains, especially from southern Ohio on down. There are not nearly as many as there used to be. The double catch at the beginning was one of your best. Great content as always, and keep up the good work👍

This is the BEST train video I have ever seen! The location was perfect, the video was crystal clear, the weather was as good as it can get, there was nothing to distract the viewer and best of all was the surprise of the second train. Also, the pure power of the trains with all of the locomotives. And I was especially happy to see you with a hat on. You need to protect yourself from the sun so we can keep seeing videos from Jawtooth! One other thing, I can only imagine how powerful that must have sounded and felt in person.

Your opening encounter with trains in this video was impressive, Jaw Tooth! The westbound loaded CSX coal train on the ground with CSX 1776 "Spirit of Our Armed Forces" commemorative locomotive was the third locomotive on this train that was passing under the Norfolk Southern trestle and bridge over the Ohio River. At 1:05 a southbound Norfolk Southern loaded coal train appeared on the trestle and passed over the CSX train. The Norfolk Souther train has two locomotives on the front, three mid-train DPUs and two end of train DPUs. These two coal trains were followed by an eastbound CSX loaded coal and eastbound Norfolk Souther loaded coal train on the ground. The last train was a long double stack train heading south on the trestle. We haven't seen this many coal trains at Kenova, West Virginia in a long time .

It was many years ago my late husband worked part time helping repair bulid and mIntIn a miniature railroad layout for a physician Now deceased) o in Katy Texas they needed coal for the engine. We would walk tracks where a coal train ran and up ick up coal for engines. All those coal train brought back memories for this old woman. Thanks Jaw Tooth. L

FYI, my car count (subject to correction) on today's trains in order of appearance is 201 (CSX), 209 (NS), 112 (CSX), 97 (NS) and 134 (NS). Thanks for a great one.

I love seeing a lot of *working* locomotives on one train. I love the DPU's. Sometimes you can see 5 or six locomotives in a row with no train cars behind them, because the locomotives are just being relocated. For me this is one of the best videos ever 👌

Like I just told gambit, 59°F with heavy rain here in Rhinelander. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s for the last 4 days. Once back in the 70s we had snow flurries on the morning of the 4th but nothing that bad since. Loved the over/under Kenova action with the triple DPUS. Keep the electric car fuel coming. 3 DPUs seems rare today but I remember as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s seeing them regularly on the Southern mainline west of Charlotte. The coal trains heading to the local plants had come down to the piedmont over the Saluda grade and needed the extra power. Of course back then they would have a bay window caboose on the back end. Yes, I had a spot over my right eye. I noticed that it is coming back so I will have to do something soon. Thanks for your support again Mark! I really appreciate it and on the next trip tomorrow it will go to the gas tank Lol. Thanks again and have a great weekend. I hope the spot is gone from your arm also. I was talking to another person the other day who had spots on his arm. He showed me and really got me to thinking about the sun.

Nice one, I caught a CSX coal train as well earlier this month, except it only had 2 leaders and 2 mid DPUs.

M=I=N+-D B=L=O=W=N Jaw Tooth, this video has to be your absolute crowning achievement to date! Not only did you capture the elusive "Over and Under" trains, but then to have a train with double lead units, double DPU's on the tail, and a set of TRIPLE DPU's in middle!?!?!?!? Talk about some serious rail power! That has "JAW TOOTH" written all over it! My friend, you're a great man, and the blessings you are having on your videos proves it to me. I can't stop smiling! Your lucky day for coal trains! FIVE DPU's on one train must be a record. Surprised the other one did not have a DPU.

WOW what a catch 2 coal trains one with a triple dpu & 2 pushers on the end! You probably won't capture a moment like that again JT, love your cap btw. kenova is the place for coal trains! & I certainly miss them in the UK. Great Train action in Kenova, W.
