Just something I noticed, the mother doesn't want the children turning on the lights in the dreamscape because she knows in reality it was the wiring that caused the fire; even though she still blames herself. Makes me wonder why the monster shows up in the dark though, if its the lights that killed the kids.

I'm dumb, but I just realized the monster represents the oxygen. The mother opened the door and let oxygen in the house, making the fire worse. "It's your fault." "When you opened the door," "You let me in."

The fact the children are trying to say something, maybe the monster isn't real. Maybe it's someone else and the mom is hallucinating.

A creepy thing i noticed is that Ronnie mentions he can't breathe and the hiding place of one of the girls smells like smoke after she's gone from it. Both clearly tied into what really happened

_PSA: Have working smoke detectors_ The game was nicely done as well as the sprites, especially when it showed the nice loving family. I really enjoyed the little hide and seek game, but it showed a bit of unsafe choices hiding in a dryer and in a vent. Agree that it wrapped itself up too quickly with the explanation from the nurses. Tho it was simple and made sense, it was a bit of a let down because of the initial set-up with the phone calls and Sophia being afraid of a monster who "wants to kill us all". Unless there was something in a newspaper about a fire in the neighborhood, or talk of fire safety prevention, or something where a kid mistakenly removed a smoke alarm battery to use for a toy - the fire hazard came a little too much out of the blue.

I had been wondering where the 7 Minutes angle was going to come in, my first thought was that it would be the time limit to get a good ending. Instead we're left with something much more depressing. Grief, such a powerful emotion. I was thrown off by the gecko symbols but I can't fault a dev for putting in an homage to their pets in a game, it's a nice tribute.

My best guess is that the lizards at the end are meant as a form of symbolism. The Salamander is supposed to represent the element of fire, so that is probably why they are in the images of the children surrounded by fire

What I like about the game is that it isn't about a mother who knowingly hurt and killed her children out of nowhere or for other reason, but the whole game was just a dream with her children, something that can never happen again. She didn't kill her children as it was a fire accident, but still blames herself for their deaths.

The monster was pretty spooky and all but like... idk I found the whole game to be more sad than horror. Every time she found one of the kids and that sound of her weeping played over it, it kinda just made my heart wrench. But yeah, flashover. If a room is sealed off from a fire, opening it up introduces oxygen and heat to the mix, pretty much setting it off. But as said in the game, chances are they would've died from smoke before the flames even got to them...

There’s a game that I remember seeing somebody play, maybe it was you. I’ve been trying to find it because I really liked it. You were a little girl, and your dad was in this like building or something because your car broke down outside of it, and you were trying to find him. (Not mad father) The antagonist was an invisible person and some other woman I might be crazy, maybe this is a mix of several games but I remember small details. There’s a chase scene iirc. Looking back on the beginning it suddenly makes sense on how the fire started. They always has the lights on which in general is pretty dangerous. Which is probably what caused the fire, it probably started in the basement and got worse from there. It's pretty sad and honestly heart wrenching once you realize that. Although I will admit I don't get how opening the door let in more oxygen? I mean that part seems alittle silly but maybe there's a logic there I don't get

It's very important to close doors in the event of a fire. Closed doors severely limits the oxygen fire needs to spread as well as preventing the smoke from spreading into hallways, thereby limiting smoke hazards. It's always a good idea to close doors to seal a fire in.

The game was alright, but I feel like it turned itself on its head a couple of times trying to create twists and emotional moments. I had a feeling that one of the twists was going to be that the mother was the one that actually killed the kids, since that's a more common cliche. Muffle knew it was a well-known cliche and tried to spin it, but it didn't really work out to me. So what I got was that leaving every light on in the house caused the fire due to the faulty wiring, and the Mother's negligence to turn them off until later. Her children all died from smoke inhalation, and she's the only one that survived. The nurses now sedate her for long periods just to make her shut up, instead of, you know, giving her the actual psychiatric care that she needs... pretty dumb, but okay. I think the game struggled to make a connection between the Mother's day to day life delusions, and the fire. The only connections are the struggle to open the closet, just to smell smoke, and Ronnie not being able to breathe in the vent. The closet scene was just randomly shoved in, then completely forgotten about with no further play. Seemed like a lazy and last-minute way to try and tie it together. Also, the timeline of events for the fire vs the delusion doesn't make sense to me. So in the delusion, the mother let in the monster, then life went on, and she eventually fails to save her kids. Does that mean in real life, the fire started, the mother tried to escape first, which means letting more oxygen in? And then she tried to save her kids? Because if she tried to save her kids, then fight or flight took control and she escaped without them, then the monster wouldn't have come in until the mother was already left alive in the delusion. It's hard to explain, but that's because the timeline makes no sense. Oh, and the exposition dump between the nurses at the end was really clunky and sloppy. I feel as though this game could've benefited from more symbolism and less blatant story-laying at the very end over a black screen. With all that being said, I would give this game a 2.5/5. It was trying way too hard to be emotional and symbolic, that it actually left out a lot of symbolism and proper storytelling techniques. It backfired on itself. It feels like it's a draft before the actual game starts being made. Things I would've done to improve the game would've been to add more metaphors, or ties between the real world and the delusion to connect the events more. I also feel as though the game could've benefitted from being longer. I also would've I'll implemented the "7 minutes" gimmick more than just passively mentioning it at the end. Like, have a timer for 7 minutes to find all the kids, and create heavier QTEs to save them. It was a great opportunity that they just didn't utilize. The game wasn't terrible, but it definitely has things that could be heavily improved upon.

When you started questioning whether or not opening the door would have made a difference, it reminded me of an old nightclub fire (if I can remember the name I will edit this comment and put it in for reference). There was faulty wiring in the ceiling of one of the rooms that started a fire, but it didn't spread out much until someone opened the doors to the room. It was very quickly engulfed in intense flames which then spread, consuming the entire building. So yes, opening the door to a room that has a fire or even some embers in it can lead to very intense fire because the new opening supplies quite a lot of oxygen to a fire that could very well have burned itself out if left alone. Very tangentially related to the game but I figured I'd mention that.

During the intro I was honestly terrified for a bit. The idea of having to protect someone more precious than your own life, and one little screw-up meaning losing it is very stress inducing to me. Sadly the game didn't really deliver on that premise. It quickly became obvious that it was just scripted and everyone was going to die no matter what you do, and there would prolly be some stupid plot twist in the end. Had this been an actual game about protecting your children, where through your actions it's possible to either save or lose each child, with no saving system to fall back on to undo mistakes, it would have been way more effective. Making you bear the consequences of your own actions through permadeath will also make you feel the full weight of the responsibility, which would in turn become fear of messing up, and fear of the monster. Guess it was my fault for setting my expectations too high, but then again my own expectations were scarier than the whole thing so I still enjoyed myself for a bit.

I guess the thing that I’m always paranoid about is being predictable. Like going home exactly at this time, went out at this time, groceries at this time. Always paranoid that people might watching and planning bad things. This game kinda remind me I should always be drastic once in a while.

I've seen that "opening the door makes the fire worse" in Anne With An "E" as well. Flames eat up oxygen, but if you close all windows and doors, you can at least control how fast the flames will spread and/or buy some time until help arrives. But my question is: how come she couldn't save even a single kid? They were all next to her room, and if not the smoke, the heat would've woken them up. Are you saying all lights burned at once? I believe that's highly unlikely. But hey, what do I know.

The kids found pretty good hiding places. If I were Mom, I would've tried to find them and warn each of them to stay put, and lure the creature out of the house. The plot twist is a little overdone and heavy-handed, but to be honest the voice acting instantly makes this game memorable. The sobbing and pleading over her children's bodies was just plain depressing, which obviously was the goal. She did a great job with that.
