Hi Lisa, I'm from London and I'm loving your channel because I'm a grammar wizard like you (getting close). When you teach us some grammar rules or even words which differ between British and US English, could you kindly highlight that for us whenever you remember, I just learned that 'afterwards' is 'afterward' and 'staff' is often accompanied by a singular verb in the US. That's only if you remember, I appreciate the fact that teachers do their best. Thank you

I enjoyed (yes enjoyed) your lesson. It's so good that I even jotted down word by word painstakingly your whole lecture so as to refer to it as a way to reassure myself in future just in case. It's one of best presented lessons I have watched. You spoke very well (easy to listen and at proper speed) on top of being very clear and systematic. Although I consider myself sometimes as an advanced learner but I still learn from you lesson and understand the reasons behind the mistakes. Thanks.

I remember when using an adjectival phrase like ‘20 minute’ we were told to write it with a dash (-) in between the two words like ‘20-minute’. Like in “I have a four wheel car” I have to insert the dash in between the words to make it “I have a four-wheel car.” Perhaps they are the same with your examples Madame which have no dash in between adjectival phrases like 30 minute, four door, etc.? Am I right to say they are adjectival phrases?

At 10:37 you made an error. You said to include a verb. Verb plus ing becomes a gerund which is a noun. The trick is, if you have to use a noun, you use a gerund. For example, I can say, I look forward to the meeting. Or it means I need a noun after look forward to, so I can't use a verb. I must use a gerund, I look forward to meeting you.

Hi! Lisa,Thanks for producing this helpful video. However,seems like there could have been a typo error in Sentence 8. You said ‘In my country,...’,but the first few words that appeared is ‘I’m my country’,which means ‘I am my country’. I realised that when I typed ‘In my country’ the first time,the word ‘In’ was automatically changed to ‘I’m’ and I had to manually retype ‘In’ again. Just in case you didn’t take note of the typo error,so I am giving you feedback here and now. In addition,I would like to point out that there are some differences (esp. spelling of some words) between the UK English Language standards and the US English Language standards. Take care,all. God bless and protect all. Amen.

Younger native speakers in the US and UK don't know about the subjunctive use. They can't use the past perfect either.
@nsnopper
@nsnopper 3 месяца назад
Even I couldn’t explain what the subjunctive is. I just use it instinctively. It “sounds right”. But then, I’m a 64 year old native English speaker who studied grammar over 50 years ago. I also studied high school Latin, which involved intensive analysis of grammar. Add to that Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees . . . But the language is changing. Some things that kids say today is like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard. One example: advertisement. Today, people pronounce it “adver-tize-ment”. In my day, we were corrected: “advert-iss-ment”. But hey, Après moi, le déluge. I’m sure that in 500 years time, English will be as different as Shakespeare is to us.

Perfect English! Thanks a lot, Lisa. I'm glad I managed to fix all the 11 grammar mistakes. Anyway, as a non-native speaker (from a Commonwealth country i.e. Malaysia) who speaks English as a second language, I added the British English equivalent to each of the sentences containing the word 'suggest/ed', e.g. 'I suggest that you should not be late any more.'

It shouldn't there be a hyphen between two bedroom? ("two-bedroom apartment")
@juliehunt9665
@juliehunt9665 4 года назад
Lucas Moreira Yes. Lucas. It is a typo and I didn't notice it until it was too late -- "I'll take a one-, two-, three- or four-bedroom, whichever is the ideal for my budget."

I think the correct form of your question should be: Shouldn't there be a hyphen between "two" and "bedroom"?

I kept learning even I'm now 71 year old. I used to improve foreign languages (French, German and Mandarin) by myself after spending a short term from school. Your lessons have helped me a lot. I do appreciate very much for your effort!

Would you mind if I correct your English here? You meant to say: I keep learning even though I'm now 71 years old . (In the past) I improved my fluency in several foreign languages (French, German and Mandarin) by myself after spending a short time away from school. Your lessons have helped me a lot. I do appreciate your effort very much!

@@fy3928 Of course you can. Your English is already very good. I share your love for learning foreign languages. I am also 71 and have been studying Russian for about a year, just for fun. I spend about two hours a day at it. Progress always seems too slow, but progress is made, little by little. What is your native language?
