Pure gold! Sending out to my group. I have been looking for an older video of yours that discussed a staged approach to the NVZ. Some of us old and/or bad knees folks don't have the speed to get there quickly especially off of a deep shot. Maybe that video was in your previous life? Keep 'em coming! Thanks.

Jordan, your grounds and fence look great. Though not terribly important, nice grounds suggests you are paying attention to detail. This gives the viewer an even better confidence in your instruction. Furthermore, it is a good idea to mix it up by having your friend Kaden make a few comments and watching two of you work together. Keep up the good work. Great video basics

Great video (as always), thank you! Can you clarify your grip definition? I've always understood the continental grip to be the "hammer" grip (gripping paddle as you would a hammer), and the Eastern grip as the "handshake" grip (so it would be slightly to the right-side of the paddle (for righties), in the same way you would shake someone's hand. Thanks!
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
Yes, those aren’t perfect examples, but the “hammer grip” is the continental. This is the grip that I use the most at the net

I appreciate the teaching and am glad you brought Caden on board. Could I ask one small thing? I break out in a cold sweat every time I hear 'me and Caden' or 'Caden and me.' It's a flashback to my 7th grade English teacher scolding me in front of the class for my poor grammar. It's Caden and I she would say. Thanks.

For the ready position, approximately how far in front of you should you be holding your paddle (how much bend should your arms have when holding the paddle there)?
@BrionesPickleball

I hold it 1-2 feet in front of me

Thanks! Our process is a little different. For the best case scenario for you to learn and me to instruct in the best way possible, We finalize dates when we find and match 3 other players of your same skill level and then we set a date that works for all four of you! Hope to see you on the court soon!! Brionespickleball.com/coaching

Piggy backing off of what you said about positioning I think the biggest mistake I see in the 3.5-4.0 range and even above is the concept of covering angles. So what I see a lot is that people are programmed to go to the kitchen and they often run to the same exact spot in the kitchen regardless of ball location. When a player drops to the outside of the kitchen they rarely cover down the line and when they drop to the middle they often times don’t pinch the center enough and they leave a big hole. They phrase i love for this is that you have to cover the angles you create. Those angles didn’t just appear it’s because you or your partner played a ball to a certain location on the court and then didn’t adjust to the change in dynamic. Funny enough in my experience the solution has been having people try to play singles. They immediately understand way more about shading and positioning when they are forced to think about passing shots and angles more and when you get them out of the preprogrammed location of where they should run to in the kitchen. Just my two cents personally. Great video once again.

Briones Help Please I just started playing, six games total and very little practice. I am having a seriously difficult time coming up to the NVZ because it seems everyone I play against just wants to take my head off. Come to think of it, there are four courts at the park I play at and EVERYONE seem to just want to hit the ball as hard as possible. I see NO dinking, and NO drop shots. I can make it forward to the NVZ line, but I am constantly missing my returns or worse getting hit with the ball. What can I do about these "Headhunters?"
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
Tough one. I would try to get on the court and practice your volleys. Or maybe you play with a different group, until you can handle the pace. Either way, you have to work on your volleys! Also, if they’re literally “head hunting”, lots of those balls are probably sailing out.

I was looking for the backhand video... My reason was to review which grip you use for backhand topspin/slice. More importantly, as you are discussing here around the 650 mark, is how to adjust/change your grip on the fly. I see Jordan is constantly spinning his paddle. I never played racquet sports so I have to learn the back hand. I understand the mechanics, it's going from a continental to eastern (I think) while repositioning/setting up for the shot. It's probably innate for those who played tennis or ping pong. It would be nice to see a demonstration, if possible, showing and explaining how you change your grip on the fly. And the decision making process that goes into it. Thanks

I am glad the tip about not changing the paddle grip at the kitchen line was not delivered by the guy who spins the paddle around in his hand after every shot he hits in his videos. Love your videos Jordan, but the irony would have been a bit much.

Every time I spin the paddle, it goes back to continental when I’m up at the NVZ line. So, I always practice what I preach. 😊
