Yes to the chukka boots! My personal fave for summer is something that is sometimes referred to as a "desert boot" -- a very, very light tan suede upper with more of a crepe (not leather) sole. More comfortable and lightweight than you might imagine - apparently, British officers wore a version of these chukka boots during WWII.

For summer hikes, boots with shorts are just good common sense (unless your idea of hiking exclusively involves paved or well-manicured trails). I'm sure there are plenty of other activities where boots + shorts is equally sensible. Sometimes functionality has to take priority over fashion.

Shoes are the last thing a person "Let's go of." If they got dirty sneakers, they got dirty intentions. If your shoes are beat up and neighbors start taking shit when you walk out the door, you need to prioritize your life.
