I love all your videos! I do not have an RV, but my stepson and his family have a monster of an RV (like y'all's lol), so I love and hope to have a baby RV someday. :) Thank you for sharing your experiences, especially, one's that prove there is a better way to do or have something. Y'all rock! And you're funny!
Two years full-time rv'ing, only one RV park didn't allow pets/animals (Sanibel Island, Florida). I've never been asked for vaccination records, and although I COMPLETELY agree with having your dog leashed nearly all the time (for their own safety), the hands free leash seems dangerous...(Squirrel!!). I'd like to also add (as I just discovered yesterday) to ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings while walking your dog. I'm out in a New Mexico desert currently, and there seems to be an infestation of diamondback rattlers at this state park. Please keep your furry family safe. Every morning, check under your RV /toad. ❤ Love your channel...thank you for this video. 😊
You also need to check on the quantity of pets allowed. Most campgrounds have a 2 pet minimum unless you call and get approval. We travel with 3 medium size dogs and 2 cats. I never include the cats when making reservations since they don't go outside. Great tips, thank you.
Training starts early. Our late girl, Sox, who lived to be 17, traveled everywhere with us. She was a leash trained cat, but could also use the litter box. She flew with us domestically and internationally. Stayed in hotels, camped, you name it. One very crucial part of training was her kennel. We left it out at all times, with her favorite blankie in it, fave toys around it. She willingly slept in it every night of her life. So when we traveled, she also willingly went in because it was her safe, cozy space.
Good tips ! There is no way we could leave out pets behind, even for a day or 2. I swear our 2 dogs are part human . Anyway we are leaving Iowa for Arizona with our fur babies tomorrow. It’s going to be hot !
We travel with our cat and our dog. We keep their water bowl in the shower. Any spills just go down the drain. We also have a suction cup cat shelf we put up in the window for cat TV.
I use to be a strong Waggle supporter and user, until the unit stopped working. I contacted Waggle, as I purchased 3 years of service, the unit was a little over 2 years old and instead of Waggle helping me they told me to buy another unit. Poor customer service for sure. So I no longer promote or use Waggle. Hope others have better experiences.
One topic which RV pet owners refuse to discuss is that of pet restraint while the Class A is motion. Should the need arise to make an evasive manuever or to come to a rapid stop, you have just launched a pet-projectile through your coach. The larger the pet, the more deadly the projectile. Pets can be restrained by the simple use of a harness which is then snuggly attached to an unused seat belt or some other stable object (not a foot stool) or a pet crate which in turn is secured. Ask any highway patrollman what happens to a pet in the case of an accident. Either the animal bolts and is never found or............... Bill
We have a gravity feed water bowl and it's never spilled either. It sits on a towel where the seatbelted dogs can reach it while in motion. Yep, harnesses and seatbelts - should there be an emergency (or wreck) they don't need to become traffic casualties in a strange area.
We use a pooper scooper on a handle and a tiny garbage can outside the RV instead of baggies for the poopies. Helps cut down on bag waste and is a little more pleasant to use. I think we got it at Walmart. Also, keeping any vet records with you is a good idea, in case something comes up with their health. That way you don't have to wait for records to be sent. (Speaking from experience on this one!)
We have Waggle, just in case we need to leave our dog in our camper, we usually take him everywhere with us. Also, we have a GPS collar for our dog called FI. It works so well! And again, it's another "just in case" he got separated from us. It worked on the trails in Shennahdoah and in New Hampshire. So worth it to have that piece of mind. And you are so correct, all furry kids are our "therapy" pets, they calm our souls and make life so much better!
We just had an experience being gone to CA with our travel trailer and having to find a vet. Our little aging chihuahua was in distress and we had to send her to Rainbow Heaven. Heartbreaking!! Video on finding reasonable vets while traveling would be a good one
Oh man, that is so heartbreaking. We’ve found on the road a local VCA can be a good option for vet care while traveling. We use Banfields because they are nationwide and can access our records from any location
@GratefulGlamper - Hi Charity. How do you deal with the litter boxes for Scrappy and KitKat, so the litter doesn't go all over the place (both on travel days and while at site)?
I've heard multiple RU-vidr's give this same advice, but what I seldom hear about are the dangers for your pets at various places around the country. Be it insects, other animals or dangerous plant life to be aware of. This also applies to your kids. I mean, coyotes view your pets and little kids as "Dinner".
We just came home from month long trip to the East Coast. Our dog got very sick two days into the trip. We found an on line service that helped us with probable cause and treatment that enabled us to continue travelling. We planned for if we got sick or injured but never thought about our dog. So before our next excursion we will make sure to have that service geared up and ready.
I bought a hands free leash and I am sooooo glad I did! My dog Reilly likes to pull when being walked and this leash helps me from being drug down the road. I love it! I am trying to train her so when I retire from teaching, I can walk her on the leash properly when I go rving full time.
We are taking our dogs camping for the first time in just a few days. We camped (tent) with another dog up until a few years ago. Now we have a pop up so multiple dogs will be a bit easier than a tent lol. Thankfully they are crate trained and we did get kennels that will stay with the camper so we don't have to move the house ones all the time. The spill proof bowl is something I will definitely be looking into. They don't spill their water but I have a sloppy drinker and that might slow her down a little making less mess. A hands free leash may not be the best option for our dogs because they are larger hounds and their noses well lets just say they dictate a lot!
When it says No pets, is that referring to them not being out on the campground or actually not allowed in your RV? I have 3 cats and they are always inside. But when it says no pets, that mean none at all , or even in your RV
Great tips for traveling with pets! Thanks for doing this video and the info on Waggle. I can’t imagine not having that when traveling with your furry friends…… Lisa
We bought one. It didn’t work. We had to convince the company to send us a replacement. They made multiple excuses why we should wait a week or two before sending it back. We finally got a new one, and it works better. The temp reading is not accurate. Usually 3-6 degrees off. I’m personally not overly impressed with the product.
So bummed we missed you at Gulpha Gorge. We are one of the camp hosts there and had no idea you were visiting. We also travel with our dog Tucker and enjoyed your tips. Catch you next time, hopefully! 🤞
Where do you keep litter box? When traveling … where do the cats go? We had two old ladies but both gone now. One got motion sickness and after puking did fine..on the bed. The other stayed on the bed. Am adopting 2 this weekend and our next trip is 10/1 just 4 nights. Hubby thinks they will want to be up front with us..(they’re going to be young). Suggestions?
@@GratefulGlamper i was thinking of putting it on the floor by my side of bed..which is the very back of the coach. Out of the way and since it has central vac between sweeping and vac, keep stray litter cleaned up. Do your kitties ride freely when traveling?
Any suggestions for keeping a travel trailer cooler for cats inside while driving? 5 hours would probably be the max. I've been looking at the small battery powered air cooler. Thanks for the videos.
Very good advice and suggestions, Charity, thank you! One of the reasons we bought an RV is so that our two pups can go with us. We wouldn't go without them. Consequently, that is one of the first things we check out about a campground - no pets, that campground isn't for us! The numbers of campers we see with pets is amazing, they are everywhere. But pet parents need to be responsible - pick up after them and don't let them roam loose! Love seeing Alaska and kitties, they are adorable!
@@GratefulGlamper yes I’m a truck driver, they hit a set of doubles , another tip is to chip the dog and cats , have carriers ready in case of breakdowns , or hotel stays , vet visits etc , . Look up the smith system and the 5 keys
I knew I wanted to pet monitor. I did some research and had decided on the Waggle. But I can't thank you enough for the discount! I just bought it with the camera. We just bought an older class c RV and have 2 Newfoundlands that we will travel with. This will bring me great peace of mind!
I use a headlamp flashlight. We have 2 German Shepherds. We stopped at a park that had dedicated dog walking areas and those were the only places to use for potty breaks. Going out at night I wanted to be sure that drivers could see us walking to the dog areas. A flashlight was important to be seen even more than to see.
Please don't bring politics here. No pet policies happen when they've had problems with pets. Entitled and irresponsible pet owners exist across the political spectrum.
