If, like me, you have joint and chronic disease issues, every single step that you can eliminate has a huge impact on the quality of your life and the amount of energy you have left at the end of the day. I already use most of these ideas, and they make a big difference.
Teri Wielgorecki Same here! I now even have most of my groceries delivered from Whole Foods, because I eat all organic; however, most of the time it’s too much trouble to cook.
I know exactly how you feel! I've got SLE, Sjogrens disease, FM, OA, DDD/DJD, neuropathy, etc not to mention in legally blind w some light perception but loss of peripheral vision & central vision beyond approx 2-3in from my eyes. I do some of these but will be adding the soapy water utensil container... I have one just for that use! 😁😉 Will be picking up some magazine bins too. There are some instant mashed potato bags for one & hubby's muffin packs for another. 👍👍👍
Ikeep a tin can in the ink for that! Then it's clean n ready to recycle. I do all these, except the magazine rack for zip locks.I don't have many zip locks, but they seem to last for years. So easy to rinse out.
I have been cutting off the lid to boxes of food for so long and it so much easier to grab and go. I love that method! This girl's tips make my heart happy!💚💚💚💚
I used her idea with the eggs but in a bowl and its working great! I also used her idea for dish soap and its so much easier in a pump bottle! i used an old hand soap dispenser! Thank you Lindsay Whisen!
Some good tips - soaking the cutlery and taking the tops off the foil and plastic boxes both good ideas. But the eggs in a glass vase is dangerous - maybe an acrylic type would be better. The food boxes with the removed tops - not too sure - I still like how things look inside bins or baskets - streamlined - same color, etc. Gives a more cohesive look even if being stored in a cabinet or pantry. I love my label maker - again for the same reason. I might do the tape idea in a garage but in my home, I want things to look nice. If you want to be economical and still be eye-pleasing, you can print the word "glass cleaner" in a font of your choice and then apply with a small piece of clear packing tape.
i do too, it's the fastest way to do, also if just in case the plastic liner is leaking or anything like that, I still have a sort of protection that not gonna ruin my entire bin :)
egg manufacturers put the eggs in a cardboard box for a reason...egg shell is thin & porous and will pick up the smells of other things in the ice box...
true. but you realize, when you close the fridge, it is dark. the same with the box. the moment, you open it up, to take out eggs, it is no longer in the dark. so, I don't get your objection, to be honest. it's not like, the frige stays open for hours daily
@Nikki S also good to know, the fridge is also dark. works the same, like the box. it is not like, you open and close the fridge longer than 10 min a day in total. me, maybe 2 min daily average time.
Some good tips, like dish soap dispenser. However, place all snack packs from cardboard boxes in a clear small storage container. Get rid of the box right away. Buy in bulk is better too.
This labeling my regular & daily use spice containers on the cover cap using just plan masking tape & sharpie & store them in the drawer right next to the stove where I need them when cooking. Every time one is empty, I just wash it & dry it & then refill it This is how I have been doing for a decade now...
Yes, that's the one tip I really didn't like. I've also heard or read many times that keeping them in the carton keeps them fresher longer, not sure why though. They do make open top plastic egg holders that fit right in the fridge door, if you want to go that route, my mom has one.
Patricia Briody. Eggactly! Eggs belong in it's original carton or a clear holder for eggs but definitely not a vase. Seems like lazy ppl. They should be greatful for their health and not complain abt "extra" steps.
SpyderSylk eggs in the US needs to be in the colder spots? Are they different from other countries? Now that I think about it, where I came from we don’t refrigerate eggs
I usually have a mug in the sink from my daily coffee that cutlery will end up soaking in...and I don’t have yet another container to clean the funk from this way...
This was GREAT....when I redid my kitchen I installed TWO DISHWASHERS to eliminate dirty dishes accumulating in the sink until I had time to unload the dishwasher. If you have the space, I can't recommend this enough! You do lose a cabinet but you can just use the dishwasher to store the clean dishes. You don't even have to put them away. This was a WIN/WIN!
Here's another tip about the garbage bags (see minute 4:25) ... I cut the box open from the top, life ALL the bags out and set them inside the BOTTOM of the garbage container (which is usually under the sink), place a garbage bag over top to use. When that bag is full & removed, there's more bags right there to be used and they take no additional space. Plus, you always know how many you have left.
i use a marker as well, but not to label the product. i use it to write down the month i should throw it in. e.g if i buy a foundation and the sign says 6 months after opening, i would write down the month i opened it or the month i should throw it in. 😋 its a tip for those with sensitive skin 😉
Where did that soap dispenser come from? I want one just like it! I like that it's has a large surface area on the top and that you can use your arm to pump. I can't find any similar.
@ Rebecca Meakin What is even prettier is a olive oil container. I bought a nice one for $2 from Family Dollar........very pretty. You can also use a liquor decanter for your mouth wash.
...I dont think we needed the example waste of the aluminum foil... (I recycle everything, including foil... so that moment where she balled up the perfectly good foil brought out the tree hugger in me).
Eggs are in a carton because they are porous and will absorb odors in the fridge - not a good thing. The open boxes are interesting, but unless the stuff is used fairly regularly, it will collect dust, which is not something you want on food supplies.
Eggs have a protective skin, so this should not happen. If they taste weird the reason often is the feeding of the hens. The best is to keep them in the shallow egg bowls in the fridge door. Better not put them into the fridge in their paper package which can be contaminated with eg salmonella caused by broken eggs before. Always throw them away after purchase!
My refrigerator does not have built in egg container. I like the idea of tearing the carton-top off. I'm not too sure about the vase although I like the idea of using vertical space.
What a braggart. Nothing really useful here but she sure was proud of herself. Btw those eggs will spoil sooner and absorb refrigerator odors that way. Try a container with a lid.
In efficient labs they're removing cupboard doors so you can see and grab things without the opening and closing of doors. Time saver, but I don't see it happening in kitchens.
H I LOVE THIS SAVY HELPFUL SIMPLE IDE SHOW THANK YOU I ,VE BEEN EMPLOYING THE EGGS IN CLEAR SMALL GLASS PITCHER TO MAKE EASY ACCESS AND CT.OF EGGS BUT, I WANT TO KNOW WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT DISH SOAP CONTAINER PLEASE?
Don’t do this with your eggs!! There’s a reason egg cartons are made of cardboard or styrofoam. Egg shells are extremely porous & will absorb other smells from your fridge. It’s why you should be mindful of what you place in the fridge near the egg carton. No one wants randomly flavored eggs.
Eggs "I don't have time for that" Really!!?? It takes SEVEN seconds (I timed it) to get out the egg carton, put in on the counter, open it, take out the number of eggs you need (sometimes more than the 2 she demonstrates) close it and put it back. And eggs are porous and suppsed to be covered. If you are cooking or baking you are often using more than just eggs from the fridge so use 2 hands and bring both needed items out at the same time, and then return both at the same time. If you are organized you will have a 'to buy' shopping list on your fridge, and when you see you need something you put it on the list for the next grocery run, and you will never not have enough eggs. Eggs are good for 3 - 5 weeks, so buying 2 dozen at a time is a no brainer, just write the best before date on the carton, something that is more difficult on the vase. And if the vase is glass what a mess if it is knocked over while yu are reaching for something else.
I don't think I have the space to reach into the vase without losing a shelf. Maybe on the door but the door shelves would need to be more stable than mine are.
I use a ceramic egg tray that keeps the dozen eggs separate, no cracking and I can see how many are left. I might use the cutlery canister. Great soap dispenser and gorgeous cleaning supplies I got and refill from www.grove.co/referrer/47043554/ Spices, vitamins and meds already labeled on top. I don't use plastic bags, tin foil, or plastic wrap. It takes less time to dump the bars and soup mix in canister/basket versus cutting the box.
Additional thing I do regarding Rx... As an example, if you have to take 3 pills a day for 10 days. I'd write the 10 dates on the outside of the bottle... 15, 16, 17, etc with 3 x's behind the date & then cross off each as I took it.
The gronella bars box comes with an easy opening, why the need for cutting it? Too much work of cutting and it’s dangerous. To make life easier actually you make life harder.
