Not necessarily, I went to Luncheon and Mushroom Kingdoms through warp paintings before I ever accessed them normally. I’m not sure what exactly makes them grey like that.
Chris Dietrich because those paintings are far out of the way, so they find that in kingdoms like mushroom and metro you won’t be able to get over. Plus, they put a death barrier wall in mushroom and luncheon because they are close enough to land where it’s possible to make it there. But in kingdoms like wooded or snow where it is just a few tricky jumps away from land they need to grey it out.
Bat Pika28 none within my knowledge, an easy way to tell if there is a death barrier is to go to places like mushroom kingdoms painting or the moon’s entrance. To know if there is one just roll into cappy at full speed and try to make the large jump at places such as the formerly mentioned. If you die without going off screen there is a death barrier
+T Perm That's not completly correct. The painting that teleports you from Cascade Kingdom to Bowser's Kingdom is still locked after beating the boss. The painting that teleports you from Bowser's Kingdom to Snow/Seaside Kingdom is also locked after beating the bosses of the two worlds.
It's awesome that they actually programmed the ability to disable the paintings if you get to them like this, as well as Cappy's mentions of "empty picture frames". It just goes to show that they *knew* some dude was gonna be able to get to them without going through the paintings from the original world.
0:45 Why did Cappy just speak there? There's no way that Nintendo could have foreseen someone getting up theire without jumping through the painting. It really makes me afraid that they were aware of literally every exploit/cheat of the entire game.

If you use the Wet Nut glitch in Snow Kingdom and Bowser's Castle, you can get to the paintings. The only problem with Bowser's castle is that it's hard to even get a few Wet Nut jumps in, let alone the hundreds that will be required for it.
Wow, the Snow and Seaside are so easy, how didn't Nintendo thought about this?! I mean, the Sand, Mushroom, Metro and Wooded are glitches, and Lake is very hard, but the other ones are ridiculous.

It's just generic text for the first time you find an empty frame. You can get the same text in Cascade and Bowser's Kingdoms due to the portraits from those kingdoms not being filled in until the post game.

Max Connolly well I would suggest just looking up where the locations are to get to the secret places, but for all the paintings to be "turned on" you gotta complete the game bro
0:45 ...... cappy has dialogue for an empty painting, that means the developers knew someone was going to try and cheat.......they know speedrunners to well😂
waffle gamer101 actually, that triggers when mario sees an empty painting for his first time throughout the entire game since the same blank painting is found in the beggining of the cascade kingdom
wow they actually have a line for cappy when you get to a painting place but the place where you get to the place you are now is a kingdom you havent been to yet
Fun fact: In the Snow Kingdom, you can actually make that jump instead of needing to warp to the checkpoint. I know since a friend of mine did it. Took him over 100 tries but he managed to do it.
You can reach the cascade one with a CRC (cappy return cancel) and correct me if I'm wrong, to activate a CRC you ground pound as cappy before he is about to return to you then after that you can freely move around as long as you keep ground pounding
