As a Gibson owner, I absolutely love this video!!!😆😆😆 The elitist views of Gibson owners blind them form realizing that there tons of less expensive options that have the same or better quality (I include myself 😖). Buy what you can afford and what feels good in your hands and you will always win!! Getting caught up with the name on the headstock is so lame ( again pointing the finger at myself)!!!!

While I was there, out of curiosity I tried the Epiphone vintage pro and it sounded better whilst feeling just as good to play. I actually own 3 Gibsons. One studio and two standard. Somehow the Studio which I bought used and is significantly cheaper were better to play than my two Standards (both 2018). Next in playability is mya blood orange Standard Les Paul. Worst is the cherry burst which for some reason has a stiff push pull knobs. Now.... All those Gibsons I rarely use just because the Squire Bullet strat that I bought dirt cheap is far more fun to play. I think of my Gibsons as an investment just in case I need to repair our roof.
@DoktrDub
@DoktrDub Год назад
That’s pretty interesting actually, in what ways was the studio better to play? I’m genuinely curious as to how they are built in comparison
@sidpablo
@sidpablo Год назад
@@DoktrDub hard to believe but they just perform well playability and soundwise. Maybe due to the lack of cosmetics the standard has, turning it into just a chunk of wood with hardwares maybe? The pickups are hotter and the action are always spot on. Its quite lighter than the standards too so its more comfy. The frets on the other hand are rough on the edge and still goes out of tune more than my standards. At least those are the attributes of my gibson lp studio that made me say those comments in the first place. Just be aware that these guitars arent made equal and its a subjective experience. I still love some good old sexy Ibanez S series just for pure wankery.

@@SandeshShak no, he's a commie because he holds far-left socialist views. I have heard him aspouse them many, many times on his channel. i've had a US fender P bass , since 1995 , before that i played on an old beat up peavy t-40 some one ripped the frets off of (it was teh bass i learned on). i've owned a Ric , a BC. Rich bass , i've tried all manner of basses at shops over the years though. and i can say with certainty that Gibson basses were by far the worse. I've also dabbled in guitar some never owned a gibson though. genrally their necks felt great to me , that being they were huge honking pieces of wood , but then i'm a bass player so it should feel good to me. that aside i can't stand their bridges , and every one i jammed with taht used them , were always tunning constantly. so in my experience Gibson is never good enough.

I never had the desire to own a big G but I wouldn't blame Gibson for not being innovative. Whenever they try something new they fail. And they don't just fail because the new design was terrible but because no one actually wants Gibson to do something different. Just listen to what actual Gibson players have to say. They don't want the innovation, they want the oldschool stuff but manufactured with modern standards. Gibson basically does just that now and players seem to be happy with it. Just watch Ben Ellers recent video about his new Les Paul.

I used to turn my nose up at Gibson guitars until I spent a couple hours at various shops trying guitars out. I got a LP classic and I've been completely satisfied. My other guitars are Aviator and Mayones. I'm not a lawyer or wealthy but I want my instrument to inspire me, feel good in my hands, and sound good. I have spent 20+ years just buying tons of sub 1k guitars. Now I just want a couple that will feel good and somewhat hold their value. I don't care where they are made. I also don't think anyone should have to justify their gear choices based on their ability, income or whatever. If you have a $300 harley benton and it inspires you fantastic. If you have a 3000 lp but can only play a few chords but you love playing it that's awesome too! It's just tools for your self expression

i find the sweet spot price range on instruments to be between 800-1600 dollars . you can find some really good instruments in that range with out stomping your bank account. past 1600 you see an exponential increase in diminishing return. even fender has a few "lower cost" US made models in that price range if you just have to get a US instrument. but in general you can find just about any variant of any model of guitar or bass in that range of price. i've even seen some instruments with fanned frets in that range , and a few with micro tonal frets. So gonna have to agree to disagree with you on this point. past 1600 there's just not much more you can do to an instrument to make it play better than other 1600 dollar instruments. past 2000 and it's purely a name grab buy.

@legacyShredder1
@legacyShredder1 2 года назад
Companies have been using mills and CNC type machines to rough out guitar shapes for decades, even in the 30s 40s & 50s. Giving the CNC all the credit while downplaying all of the finishing work that actually results in a guitar casts too much shade on the people who deserve credit for making the instrument work. This goes to every brand out there including the ones who sell good guitars at low costs. A CNC just roughs out a guitar shaped chunk of wood. It's all the men and women down the line that make guitars.

@snap-off5383
@snap-off5383 2 года назад
@@legacyShredder1 Finishing work doesn't make a guitar. the accuracy of the construction is what makes it, and that is what CNC provides: carbon copies. The reason that there are even intonation adjustments on old electric guitars, was to make up for the inconsistency of human drilled bridge holes. CNCs were refined to the point that PRS guitars stopped making adjustable bridges, because they could stamp them and still be perfectly intonated because they're made by machine and there's no variance in construction. CNCs are not "just roughing out the shape" they're doing ALL the operations, from shaping to placing holes, to routing pickup cutouts, to putting the fret slots in. Humans move the wood from machine to machine. That's all they do. They're even painted and lacquered by machine. The human element has for all intents and purposes been removed.

So, I'm primarily a Fender guy myself, but I've always enjoyed some of the classic Gibson guitars, but simply could never justify the price for a new Gibson; but I have found quite a few other options. ESP has their own JDM brand, Edwards, that are absolutely fantastic. I have their ES335 copy that I paid $1,100 for and I love it. Seymour Duncan pickups, Gotoh hardware, and a carved maple top and back instead of pressed laminate. Essentially the same or better specs than the current 59 ES335 reissue Gibson is doing at 1/5 the cost. Some of the 70's Japanese guitars are also great bang for the buck. I just picked up a 70's Carlo Robelli SG (essentially a re-badged Greco) for $250. Mahogany body, set neck, Maxon pickups, and someone ever replaced the tuners with Grovers back in the 70's. Or I could buy a Gibson case or guitar stand for almost the same price.....

I have a 2018 (I believe?) flying V, that I bought used for around 850€, would have been around 1400€ new. I absolutely love that guitar and it really does play great, sounds great and surprisingly manages to stay in tune (maybe the V headstock is better than the LP one idk). Now come a few buts: I would never even have considered it for the full price. I also have an epiphone explorer with EMGs that I got used for 420€ (no, this is not a joke) and that guitar is fucking awesome. I'm gonna have to fix a crackling pot and swap out the switch pretty soon (it's ten years old iirc, so that's fair), but other than that it's also just a really nice guitar; for half the price. Now get this: While they both stay in tune just fine, the tuners on the epiphone feel WAY better than the ones on the Gibson. My Gibson is alright and I got a fairly good deal on it but they are certainly not the holy grail of guitars. That's a pretty damn clear fucking no.

Both sound phenomenal! What I love about the HB, is that I can buy several of them to play, and then double as very attractive wall decor :-) I have to make a general observation about guitar prices though. I have 30+ years of flute and saxophone experience, and teach both. If you want to buy a top end professional saxophone, you are looking at around €5k-6k... For a good professional flute you will have to drain your bank account by around €20k to get taken seriously by an orchestra. This makes even Gibson look inexpensive! I'm really enjoying getting to know the guitar community.

Youll be alright with either. Maybe take a Gretcsh, just because of better quality control and better pick ups (its a good brand with good reputation). Electric guitars arent like classical instruments really...most if it comes down to how you feel the guitar and your amp, speaker...thats basically it. You can buy a 100€ electric guitar, set it up and itll sound great on a good amp...later you can change things on it if you want. With guitars, you pay a lot for the name rather than quality...around 1000€ mark, basically any guitar is the same in terms of quality...some companies just overprice their instruments bcoz of the brand name.

You people remind me of the Fools who always complain about paying to get their cars fixed because they think it's wayyyy too much and they got ripped off etc... It's the same principle. Nailed it, Ive been an automotive tech since 2011 and I see it every day, they think its expensive with a good tech wait til they hire a bad one then I gotta charge ya to fix their messup and do it correctly, guitar building is the same thing. Sure inflation and corporate greed is part of the problem, but its not like a gibson is made in an hour, its a long process.

@@J.C... I would agree with you up to a point. I am a guitar builder and do know what goes into making a quality guitar. Gibson's are not hand-crafted instruments, they are not one-offs; they are mass produced by CNC machines with materials bought in quantites that custom builders would never see. Yes, there is still much that goes into them, but not worth the money.

@@J.C... I mean, seriously? I have a Gibson as well and tbh I like it, but saying you are not paying a hefty premium for the name alone means you are completely unaware of basic marketing. The whole goal of creating a recognizable brand IS to make your customers pay more for the same thing. It works for drugs, it works for cars, and it works for other guitar brands as well. Glenn is particularly bitter towards Gibson beacuse of Q.C. problems which emerged during the previous ownership and because of the hostility of their legal department, but Fenders are overpriced as well. Godin guitars, for example, are made in Canada and in the U.S., but they come at about 20/30% less than a Fender. Luthiers here where I live can build a guitar with flamed maple top, hand wound pickups, set neck and completely custom paint job for 1000 bucks. And they don't have the economies of scale of a player like Gibson
