Retired Shitposter Your religion ignorance is showing 😂🤣 I’m only Joking I really like Thomas I love to share with you why If you want let me know I am Dominic btw 🤗
Thanks very much to let me know about Saint Thomas, who he have been take my all full attention since my convertion to God and the Holy Catholic Church.
Excellent. I read Aeternum Patris about 10 years ago, and have since read all of Leo XIII's encyclicals. I think he is my favorite Pope for the clarity and unapologetic Catholicity of his writings. Thank you for calling attention to Leo, and his overwhelming endorsement of St. Thomas.
My Aunt went down into Bermuda Triangle en route back to Wash DC to deliver a Paper on Thomas Aquinas I have all these papers. Steven Moser was born the day my Aunt Helen died, so i gave him a copy of Helen's writings on Aquinas.
...and at the Council of Trent, two books were placed on the Altar, the Summa of St. Thomas and the Sacred Scriptures and the Council said that if you want to learn theology these two sources hold primacy.
Tremendous video. A definite favorite. Will be passing this onto family, friends, and my agnostic classmates. I hope you create more videos in the future. May God bless you and your family.
If an angel were to become incarnate; I have no iota of doubt that he would come in the person of the glorious Angelic Doctor. No Saint, before and after him, after the Apostles had so combined innocence and divine wisdom. Little wonder, "he is the most saintly of all learned men and the most learned of all saintly men." Sancte Thoma, ora pro nobis.
There is a full copy of most of Thomas Aquinis’ work at DHS Priory in Latin and English translation. You can search “dhs priory summa” in google to get it as the first result.
No one talkes about Thomas the Doubting one ! When his word is what is happening now ! But you don't understand what Christ is saying, I am , what I am and have the true meaning of his word, As he has risen the dead already but you are still waiting ! Blessed by the Lord of Lord's ! 👊😎
His greatest contribution was his belief in the natural law. That paved the way for scientific ideas to flourish in the Christian world. Without his acceptance of the natural law, Christianity may very well have ended up much like fundamental Islam with their denial of all earthly pleasures
Just so people know, Thomism is not philosophy, it is theology into which philosophy has been subsumed, purified of error, and perfected. Even the Summa Contra Gentiles is theology. The only pure philosophy he writes is in some of his commentaries on Aristotle. Etienne Gilson was the most authentic Thomist in that he understood the thought of St Thomas better than others, and much better than Maritain, who flirted with modernism and pelagianism. A good intro to this authentic interpretation of Aquinas is Faith and Reason in St Thomas according to Etienne Gilson. amazon.com/Reason-Thomas-Aquinas-According-Etienne-ebook/dp/B07FN96THS/
Two things keeping me from falling in love from Thomas aquinas 1 he's a guy 2 he's devoted to the monastic life It's just setting yourself up for heart break
RisingDawn loool. You know your understanding of them comes from those saints right? For example do you have any idea how Augustinian Protestants like you are?
@Dr Taylor Marshall - no, the sad seven reasons you exhort are signally unconvincing. Riddled as they are with flagrant untruths one cannot even begin to be satisfied with any of them. The addition of Pecci's obvious casuistry about the good of society and the advantage of all the sciences, demonstrates that no matter how one tries to polish a turd, it essence remains as it was.
***** if you are a Xtian you might want to consider reading your Bible, specially the passage when it says no love one another, meaning not being despicable condescending people. What you just did...
+Forlorn Lover Does one stop loving a parent, spouse, child or friend because they have died? We come to know someone through their writings and through knowing them we come to love them. It matters not if they are alive or dead. Existence does not end with physical death. Eternity exists outside of time and space.
THEY ARNT DEAD, to say the Saints are dead is heretical. It isn't the Truth, Jesus didn't teach it, men teach it. Your Protestant pastors teach it. It's a lie.
+AncientGems Yes ... because we shouldn't love anyone but Jesus, right? Yes - that's sarcasm. Look at it this way. God made Thomas, right? Everything good about Thomas came from God, right? So if there is something admirable about Thomas it's (i) due to God and (ii) due to Thomas' willingness to cooperate with God. Huh. So we admire Thomas because he is (in some small way) a reflection of God's goodness. Moreover, he's a model for us because he willingly cooperated with God. Seems like someone to look up to, to me. But perhaps you disagree.
+Kevin Murphy so you need something more than Jesus? Sorry but Jesus is all I need. I don't need to learn about some imperfect man called Thomas. Go read about your Thomas and "fall in love with him" while I fall in love with Jesus.
***** But you can say that about any person. For example, do you love your mother and father? Taking your line of reasoning, one should say that you shouldn't bother loving them ... you should focus exclusively on loving Christ. But your parents are part of God's creation - to be appreciated and loved. In fact, we all are to be respected and loved. So why not look at Aquinas and see that the good that flows from him is, in fact, from God. God gave him gifts and he used them. So why not cherish the fruits of God's love? It's just another way of loving God and his gifts. Don't make any mistake, God must always come first and foremost. But there's no inconsistency with loving others (and their gifts), as everything comes from God.
Kevin Murphy i agree with that, but theres no denying that the catholic church goes against the bible and gods law. for example "thou shalt not make any graven image of anything in heaven" well... thats all the catholic church does... ad worse they make you pray to those images. like the image of mary.
Nine quotes from Thomas Aquinas: "The things that we love tell us what we are.” "If the highest aim of a captain would be to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever." “Fear is such a powerful emotion for humans that when we allow it to take us over, it drives compassion right out of our hearts.” “Good can exist without evil; evil cannot exist without good.” "Love must precede hatred; nothing is hated save through being contrary to a suitable thing which is loved, hence it is that every hatred is caused by love.” "Justice without mercy is cruelty; mercy without justice is the mother of dissolution." “Knowledge depends on the mode of the knower; for what is known is in the knower according to the measure of his mode." “Love takes up where knowledge leaves off.” “Love draws us more to things than knowledge does since good is found by going to the thing, whereas the true is found when the thing comes to us."
Dominic Ward - I'm sorry for your loss, Dominic. Stay strong! I lost my older brother two years ago. We all have to be robust in a tough world. One day, we will all make the journey. Get ready!
Back in 2014 a healing Priest told me that Thomas was one of my Saints to help me heal. I was like oh great because I thought he was boring. But these videos make him interesting. Took me 7 years but I finally took a look at Thomas Aquinas.
The conviction and courage of these beautiful saint are amazing to me. I reflect on there life and reflect on the bigger message to apply to my life to bring me peace and salvation. There were and are so many amazing people who walked this earth. God bless them all.
03:17 "Everything I have written seems as straw..." compared to the presence of God. This glory was achieved by a lifetime of faithful service with "straw" [! ! !], his duty to God in his state of life. So, by doing our duty to God in our state of life ... ? ? ? Careful! "St John of the Cross thought that we should not plan for consolations short of [spiritual] union that so many religiously oriented people in the 16th century Spain mistook for the essence of spiritual life. That is, we should not be seekers of special visions, auditions, the charisms of levitation or speech, etc..." OK, I'll be happy with my straw then. And that's only one of the 7 reasons. OK, let's hear it again.
