I have been considering the new TX and RX. However, after seeing this informative video, I am onboard for the TX. Can't wait to test drive one in December!
If budget is of any concern I think there’s no question that the Grand Highlander is the way to go. Or if money is no object or what you drive is your only priority, then by all means make it the TX Lexus For me the Grand Highlander is just barely within my grasp and that is the XLE AWD model. Happy for those who can be so financially connected.
Spot on with the Service Department comment. I have a high mileage Rav4 and took in in for an oil change. They didn't change the sticker, fill the tires (tp light was on) and didn't reset the maintenance light (was starting to blink when turned on). Are those big issues? Not at all. When added up though, it shows they sped through. Had to come home and check my oil to make sure that was done. We also have a Lexus and as noted here, they are amazing. Always nice and polite. Can walk out knowing your car was taken care of. To me, that is worth the premium price.
If we're being perfectly honest, the new TX is the most lazily designed Lexus in years. All of its competitors are better distinguished from their mainstream counterparts and even Lexus did a better job separating the LBX from the Yaris Cross.
@@tinhinnh Perhaps a different body shell, just like how Acura and Lincoln did with the MDX and Aviator, respectively. Lexus sure isn't lacking in resources to do that. This model will surely be a money printing machine for Lexus, making this shameless rebadge a cynical cashgrabbing exercise. Efforts like the new TX wouldn't help remove the perceived inferiority in status of Lexus, compared with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi.
@@ryanmccormickthe RX 500 drives pretty damn good actually. And seeing the TX has this same engine, a more powerful engine and the same trick Direct 4 AWD is likely will surprise people
I agree that the “ V6 PHEV” will be worth the extra money versus the Grand Highlander. I do question the CVT transmission choice for the V6 PHEV? Why not use the proven eight speed transmission?
Because the PHEV is all about efficiency and an the eCVT is far more efficient than an eight speed auto. Compare the efficiency numbers of the Lexus 550h+ to other 3-row PHEV SUVs (using autos) and you'll see it's massive.
@@finances-hp8ng if it’s the e-cvt that they use in other Toyota hybrids, I’m okay with it because its not the same as a regular cvt. Just wondering how much punch it has because this is the first time with a v6
@@Fabulousprofound168 406 hp and yes it’s the e-cvt really it’s a similar setup that we see in the last gen RX450h just the battery pack is bigger and more powerful and you have to plug it in. It has 33 miles of pure electric range
Was looking seriously at the big Mazda but the T4 kinda bothered me, then I read that it was a 48v mild hybrid.... I'm out. As an "original battery" V6 hybrid owner with 210k on the meter, I just have to give my money to the same guys. Plug in is another bonus. Would be excited to try this car when it comes out. Great channel
for your second point there, actually grand highlander platinum has Traffic Jam Assist as well! but yea, other than that, the TX seems more luxurious! but its to be expected, its a LEXUS!| The other difference you didnt mention is the available 22" wheels on TX, Grand Highlander only goes up to 20" wheels
I love the TX 350 premium AWD. Would you know how long it would take to get one? I asked dealers but they only want your information and sell you what is in the lot. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.
Grand Highlander is better and cheaper! TX is more expensive because you are paying the name "LEXUS." Without the front logo of Lexus and the stamped L E X U S at the back, will you still buy it? Its a marketing strategy.
i mean, all of your points are valid....but that's true with any lexus/toyota sharing same body. it all depends on the relative price, and since TX pricing isn't available yet, its too soon to make this a fair comparison. most ppl don't have 70-90K cdn to spend on this TX
I want to know the difference in sound insulation between the GH and TX. Toyota doesn't do a great job at insulating their cars from road noise, so if Lexus was significantly quieter, then that would be a big selling point to me.
How could you comparing Lexus GX vs Grand Highlander. No debating about Grand HighLander. That should be on separate review reports. Lexus is highest quality interiors and exteriors and it is first class of Toyota.
I'm disappointed that the GH doesn't have a power steering column. My older Pathfinder does and it's part of the saved user settings, so it adjusts automatically for my husband and I at the push of a button.
How many people max will fit into a Grand Highlander vs Lexus TX? If they make the TX 8 passenger then I will agree with you otherwise everything else is just personal taste and not necessary. Everything you said is all opinion, plus these are toyota and lexus cars, really reliable. Who goes back to the dealership? Do you even know the price difference? For the price the car better be better.
Happy that V6 is going into the TX but requiring premium gas to run is a huge expense at the price per gallon. Why would they have not made this engine a low compression style so that you can use regular gas? Does the Grand Highlander also require premium gas (I would think so) because of the poor choice Toyota made by not using six cylinders? Turbo are for car not SUV so very disappointed with this path Toyota went with small cylinder count and throwing in a turbo. I think we will see more issues with this engine as it will be over used and stressed when a fully loaded Grand Highlander with a cargo top and full A/C going up a steep hill…… Thank you
Assuming 25MPG and driving 15k miles per year, that 600 gallons a year. 30 cents difference X 600 gallons is $180 a year………if I can’t pay $180 extra a year, i can’t afford it a car like this to begin with.
Oh wow so great 👍 and very beautiful 😍❤️ and the engine 🚂🚒 very strong and powerful for the off 🛣️ road 💪🛣️ or high way and very good design with the new 🆕 technology for the new 🆕 generation hument and very easy to drive and comfortable with the safety 🦺❤.
Agreed. Maybe one would have to see in person because based on videos the Toyota looks just as premium if not more than the Lexus especially with the Portobello ultra-suede interior found in the platinum trim
I personally feel Grand Highlander is a better design and also has the traffic jam assist offered in hybrid max not only in Lexus. Also Reasonable enough to get GH for at least 20k$ less than lexus.
my 2021 highlander limited with cruise on, will come to a complete stop behind a car. then, when traffic moves, i just push the resume button or the gas pedal for a second and it starts to accelerate and the cruise is active/on again.
@@everydayfun9531neither looks like an adventure SUV. They’re meant to be basically a large crossover or an SUV for people who actually need a Mini-Van but prefer the look of an SUV. If you want an adventure SUV, you’d have to look at a 4Runner or the new Lexus GX.
I'll never not buy luxury. The quality of materials paired with improved sound deadening & suspension make it worth it imo. Especially for any large family vehicle.
The reliability of the grand Highlander and the TX are the same… I will agree that the Lexus is more soundproof and a little better quality feel as I traded in a Lexus GX for a Toyota Highlander platinum, although the Toyotas extremely comfortable. I also like the fact. I also appreciate that I’m spending a dollar less a gallon on regular fuel compared to premium I think the GH is better looking, especially in the back.

Hi David, though it's not the same class, does Mazda CX 90 compete with Lexus? and do you think Mazda is better than grand highlander hybrid max with more power and more room in GH compared to Mazda?
As far as I remember in one of his previous videos David said that he is cancelling Garand Highlander preorder and ordering CX90. Now he didn't mention anything about it but looks like he wants preorder Lexus.
There no reason to buy Lexus TX, Lexus TX is actually grand Highlander under Lexus batch, they share all the components, evenly the gear shifter. Not worth the extra cost.
While I do actually like the Grand Highlander looks, I really like Lexus' 6-cylinder choice for the TX. Not having driven either, I would have liked the 6-cylinder engine for the Grand Highlander, too, but it's not an option. Therefore, for me, I agree Lexus is the choice based on the engine alone.
6 cylinder doesn’t matter much when you have hybrid with 362 hp, same as Lexus tx. I have tested the grand highlander max and it is powerful. I only wish they offered more technology such 360 camera, automatic suspension or parking assist.
If I was in the market for a TX, I would buy a 3.5L V6 TX plug-in hybrid. I currently own a 2022 RX 450h hybrid with a 3.5L V6, and I’m very happy with the power, comfort, and overall performance of this vehicle. Too bad that the V6 is unavailable in most 2023 Lexus models.
I was super excited when I heard about the TX I put off buying the GH till I saw it. Then I saw the MPG is less on the tx hybrid, less seats, and that hideous front end. God awful. Not worth the extra minimum 10-15k. So back to Toyota I went.
Lexus needs to rethink their grille/front end designs, why are they all so awkward looking? Seriously, the only attention grabbing vehicle from Toyota is the new Tacoma, everything else just seems like a dud.
I had a Lexus LS430 ultra edition which I loved. What a smooth ride!! The downside was every time I brought to the dealership for regular maintenance it would cost me at least a $1000. It was always due to the add on to oil change of a scheduled change of say the fuel pump even though working fine. I always knew and expected a big bill. It made me wonder how reliable these cars really were because I was always paying for replacement of parts even though there was no problem. I eventially got rid of it when the air shocks became defective and would cost over $1000 each. I got a Buick Enclave premium which clearly was a drop in quality but rode well and pretty quiet. It also takes regular gas which saves me anywhere from .70-1.00 a gallon with each fill up. After having the car for 8 years I brought it to the dealer as the airbag light stayed on and it needed new brakes. In 8 years this was the first time I spent $1000 on it. The GH takes regular gas but the Lexus TX does not which is a big minus in my book as I have been spoiled with using regular and I think I will go for the with the GH Hybrid Platinum MAX and save thousands not getting the Lexus equivalent. That said I never had a Toyota so don't know if their dealership play the same games of replacing parts at certain mileage even if working fine.
I would say it was the dealer. Easy way to tell would be to look at service schedule in the owners manual. My 2015 Highlander has been incredible. Total repairs under $450 in over 200k miles. I asked if I needed to change the oil ever 5k miles instead of 10k miles as listed in manual. Service department said it would be a waste of money.
@@carlitodeleon768 for real! I got tricked once at the dealer and only noticed because the paperwork said "customer stated" when I never reported a problem. When the customer care people called, I ripped that service person a new one and I'm sure others complained too because I never saw him again when I did future maintenances.
I don’t know how in real life looks, but in pictures the TX looks very ugly while Grand Highlander is beautiful. In addition TX has maximum seat of 6 while Grand has options of 7 and 8. It will be nice to have fair a pros and cons comparison. Simply due to the limit seat capacity, no chance for me to buy TX.
the plugin hybrid date isn't even announced, and with the wait times and all it'll be over a year before any of us would be able to put our hand on it. Also the looks are subjective, personally I Really dislike what they've done with the front, and I think GH looks much better than the TX in that department. Not to mention it'd be at least $15K over the platinum version so no point in my opinion.
You can’t afford it if you can’t pay the premium fuel. This is just as simple as rich don’t blink when they buy 1st class tickets when travel domestically or internationally or shopping in the boutique stores…..
Im becoming less and less inpressed with new cars. The upgrades are morginal or in retrograde compared to expected improvements over such a long time period, and the costs are way too high. This is like an iphine trying to swithc back and forth bewtween curved and squared off edeges every few years too woo people, without actually doing anything that justifies buying other than the older phone wearing out and becoming overloaded with apps that are too big
Reason #8: Lexus has a standard 4 year/50,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty, Toyota is a 3 year/36,000 mile (at least here in the USA). Knowing that neither of these will really ever use or need their warranty, the Lexus provides more piece of mind with a longer standard term. Your 4th point is spot on as well. The personal experience and the way you are treated is far superior at Lexus than at any Toyota dealer. Not to mention the Toyota dealers normally mark up vehicles while I have found that most Lexus dealers do not so this alone negates 90% of the price difference when Toyota dealers are marking up their vehicles to almost the same price as a Lexus. As a bonus, the coffee at the Lexus dealerships are always better than at Toyota.
I hate to say this but they need to steal some design talent from Mazda or dare I say Hyundai/Kia? Those guys are hitting it out of the park when the lexus people are running on empty.
@@mrsargemeister I agree 100%. They haven’t changed anything in years. And that “Darth Vader” grill is just dated. Time to re-establish a unique look. Even BMW and Benz have started to change their signature look!
@@mrsargemeister mazda has been solid, but hyundai and Kia steal engineers from many companies. Toyota does what works, and i admit they may need to step it up. They have some really good designers in france.
If the TX does not have better mpg than the Grand highlander its a waste of time because that is the major reason for hybrid. If the MPGe is less what are you doing?
It's not $20k more better. Also styling wise, it looks like, for the first time, Lexus used little development money on styling to make it look different from the Grand Highlander. Exterior very cheap, and there's nothing special inside. Very disappointed with it. The Front end alone is very dated looking. The TX reminds me of the GM J cars of the 80s. Just change the front and rear clips, paint the C-piller. Its equivalent to a cimarron vs a Cavalier. Quality control would have a difference if it was in Japan, but it made in the same plant as the Grand Highlander. The biggest selling point would be the dealership experience. The only reason I am even watching this video is because I respect your opinion and wanted your thoughts. However, to me, there's not enough to really desire one. The GX on the other hand, even with the things they did for cost cutting and margins, is still desirable. Add that it will be built in the Tahara plant, makes it a safe bet.
I agree with all your points. Also, the way Toyota dealerships are price gouging the GH now, which haven't even reached their showroom yet is crazy. A few cents more you're already in Lexus pricing territory.
Why can’t these Japanese brands build unibody construction suvs with front double wishbone suspension like the german brands? Even hyundai does it with genesis gv 80.
Agreed with 4th point. As a customer of both brands, dealing with most of the Toyota dealers is like talking to a rude and uneducated person. On the other hand, Lexus dealers always treat their customers nice and personally it has always been a pleasant experience.
Maybe Toyota leadership lets Toyota staff 'act/perform' rudely/in an uneducted manner to sell virtually the same car at the Lexus dealership for more $$$$$. Caveat Emptor
Hmmm... very interesting indeed. The design of the Grand Highlander didn't resonate with me, but this Lexus equivalent looks rather nice. I was fairly content with my servicing visits for my new Sienna, but the better service of Lexus also sounds like a nice touch.
The Grand Highlander was my first interest until I saw the Lexus TX. I want to tow a small RV and skeptical of the 4cyl turbo on the Hybrid Max. I would rather tow using the 6cyl and have the option for a plug in like the prime (if the plug in can tow).
Hi David, I think the Lexus TX 500 is definitely nicer than the Toyota grand Highlander. I am a little disappointed that it’s not being made in Japan. However, it’s a wonderful and absolutely beautiful vehicle my first priority as you know, is quality control, so that’s why I am more interested in , the Lexus GX 550 so I’m going to wait until the last year of that version and model and possibly purchase one at that time…. This was a great video as always. I’m very impressed with Lexus and their new models. They all look great. They all have a great fit and finish. I just have to wrap my mind around what they’re doing with the power plants I just can’t see myself buying any electric or hybrid vehicles, at least for the next 10 to 15 years until they are perfected. That’s just my opinion but I will try to open my mind to purchasing a V6 TwinTurbo in the future. Again thank you so much for your wonderful videos. Your videos are phenomenal. I will always give me the title of being the best of the best of the best. Respectfully, JimmyUSAF 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙😇🌎🙏👍⭐️🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐕💜✝️🚖🚔
Hope you get a chance to own a GHL,TX and new GX David, to show us!! Keep your NORI Green GX, and the last of v8. I dont know when the world will correct itself for another v8 GX. I think the value will only go up like the FJ. I hope they continue to make the TX more premium than the GHL, and maybe update the grill for the future. I understand this is what they do for the first gen models.
I think we all get enamored by features and luxury. Design is subjective so no comment. Everyone will have some "must have options". For me its memory seats, 2nd row bench seat, upgraded stereo, parking sensors, and acceptable torque. The equivalent Lexus TX is between $20k to $24k more than the Grand Highlander. The only real benefit I see is the 6 cyl engine. Most You Tube reviews state the GH Standard Hybrid performs just fine, but maybe just a little loud when you accelerate up large hills. After looking at both as well as the Mazda CX90 I ordered the GH Ltd. Hybrid with a bench seat, and no sunroof. Trading in my 2018 Highlander Ltd. with 117,000 mi. The net cost will be about $36k. Reg. gas savings over the old Highlander will be about $1,200 annually. The Limited Trim level is really the sweet spot for features without being punished on price.
David, First, How many seats does Lexus TX has in the 3rd Row? I bet only can sit 2 people. Boo… 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Also Does Lexus TX has more leg rooms in the 3rd row seats? If this the same as Toyota Highlander then Booo…👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Second, Does Lexus TX has more cargo space? If Lexus TX & Toyota Highlander have the same cargo space then booo…👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Third, You said JBL sound system is not good compare to Mark Levinson??!! I think everybody already knew JBL sound system known for longest time rather than Mark Levinson sound system😁😁😁 I guess Toyota Grand Highlander get more point.😛😛 Fourth, You said Lexus TX has a little bit more horsepower rather than Toyota Highlander then Booo….👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Fifth, Lexus need to focus on the highest performance rather than Toyota Highlander otherwise people look down on the Lexus Brand. I hope Lexus CEO need to read this to make Lexus brand better soon.
It's not hard to pick the TX over the grand highlander but I'm more torn between the 2024 TX and GX... I know they're completely different beasts but they both have 7 seats (which I desperately need for my family) and they both look marvelous. I'm leaning towards GX but worried that it'll be much harder to get one.
I own a 2022 gx , it technically doesn’t have 7 seats . 3rd row is no good for car seats or adults. Also if you manage to fit a human in the 3rd row you, have no cargo space. Thats why they are not even offering a 3rd row in the new 550 (offroady version). Trust me if you actually need 3 rows go for tx , ghighlander or maybe a suburban. Im actually thinking about trading in my gx for a tx
Yes the Gr. Highlander looks a lot like a stretched RAV4. But the Lexus TX front looks like it got the grill from an older Camry. In other words cheap looking. The floating roof design is one of the better design cues the TX has going for it, so too the taillights.
Not so fast. You can get the panoramic moonroof in the hybrid TX option but you can with the Grand Highlander. Plus, the Grand Highlander gets 36/36 mpg on its hybrid but the TX only 27 mpg for its hybrid option.
Assuming 25MPG and driving 15k miles per year, that 600 gallons a year. 30 cents difference X 600 gallons is $180 a year………if I can’t pay $180 extra a year, i can’t afford it a car like this to begin with.
I am a lexus fanboi who had owed a GS350 Fsport, LS460, and SC400. But this shift to "LESS BUTTONS" to press and move those actions to the touch screen is the most stupid and annoying thing automakers have done. That alone makes me want a Toyota over a Lexus for the first time. I do not want to have to dig into three layers of infotainment screens just to turn on seat ventilation. It is supposed to be a luxury car, right? It is supposed to make life effortless. But then you need lots of effort just to do anything with your car.
So, what will the pricing be at each level? Pricing will help decide if it's WORTH it. $2, to $4,000.00 More, maybe worth it. So a lot Smother, Quieter, more more comfortable, worth a bit. Yeah, but that service might be better but it comes at a price. Again, all this will depend on just how much these will be, and how much more than the GHL. And let's not forget, Premium fuel??? $$$
Tell me about the transmission, is it really a CVT and not a gear box? And just how reliable is the Lexus CVT? Does it have a take off gear? Need to know to make up my mind.. thanks
Unfortunately the Lexus looks really ridiculous because of the front grille and the slanted headlights. It seems even on the Lexus there is cheap looking plastic on the door trim, The steering wheel looks dated. Feeding the Lexus with the required premium fuel is exactly what I wouldn't want to do. I think the Grand Highlander is already expensive enough so if I had my choice it would the G.H.
The Lexus TX may be a bit better than the Grand Highlander, but not nearly enough to justify the $20k to $50k additional price! The Lexus is even duller looking than the GH, too!
Thank you for the comment on the current state of Toyota service. We have both a Lexus and a Toyota currently and I have given up on Toyota service in my area of Ontario - it was the benchmark and is now truly awful. Great video as usual ty!
tx grill is disappointing, i really need to trade in my 2021 rx350L for this three row but my wife is not digging the grill. the rx grill is much better. bs man, come on lexus.
my biggest and only factor in deciding between the two is the 8-passenger vs 7 passenger seating. I can't believe they have no 8 passenger version for the TX. that may end up forcing me into a grand highlander. I'm willing to pay the premium for the lexus, but want the 8 passenger when going to a car this large and family oriented.
