I was finally able to see the Ioniq 6 in person, and I have to say it looks somewhat strange to me in pictures, especially from the rear, but in person, I think its beautiful. Very stylish and dare a say sexy design. Well done Hyundai, I am seriously considering buying the RWD long range model. 361 miles of range under $50k, and a car that stands out from the sea of white Tesla Model 3s now flooding the streets.
# 8: I am 6 feet 2 and I can swim around in the back seat, any seat. AWD limited and you can switch to ECO and the front motor is disconnected to add range. I'm only going to do that when I want to do RWD boot leg turns in the snow. Sport mode AWD 99% of the time since range anxiety does not exist in this vehicle.
Don't like the huge drop off in range from AWD to RWD. These tesla competitors have to do better on their range for the AWD if they really want to compete with tesla. From 330 to 270 is a huge drop off.
The same as Matthew, we were unsure until we saw this car in person. Now we have decided this is the car to buy. We now just have to decide between an SEL or a limited because headroom can be an issue. We have also decided , although we don't care for dark cars, the dark paint is the best looking option with this model..
I drove one recenlty and own a EV6. It's hard to believe how much better (and it was already good) the suspension is on the Ioniq 6 over my EV6. With 4 people, it felt like it had a flawless ride. It felt as good if not better than the Genesis G80 electric! I love the level of engineering detail this video presents. Subscribing!
Dear awesome stranger, I have to replace my car in the next 2 months as was between those 2 models that you mentioned (currently have a Sonata Limited 21 that I really love but want to go EV now) and you just helped me with the decision.
@@MrBrazil_ whatever you do, lease it. The depreciation is unreal right now. don't pay over MSRP and you should be able to get at least $7,500 MSRP with the leasing rebate
I feel like this car would be even better if it actually was a lift-back. It’d also be nice if they qualified for the EV tax credits within the U.S. too. I also heard that the brake lights don’t engage when it’s using the regenerative breaking. I think that’s a mistake. Other than that, I think it seems excellent.
Great in depth review. I bought an SEL RWD trim one month ago and I'm incredibly impressed with the comfort , features and range. I do wish they had some of the limited features in the SEL. Things like the folding mirrors, seat memory would be great in this trim, but I didn't want to pay the ~$5,500 price premium PLUS lose the $5,000 in bonus cash Hyundai was offering ($10,500 in total) just to get two features I liked and others I didn't care about (sunroof, auto parking, Bose stereo, etc.). Other than that, I'm very happy with the purchase.
I love Hyundai and Kia; their design really hits in accord with me, quality-wise if you look at the statistics when it comes to the number of cars needing assistance along the roads they have the lowest rate of roadside assistance of all cars down to 0.5 to 0.6 cars per hundred of cars on the road, whereas the luxury brands like Range Rover and others top out at nearly 4 per a hundred cars on the road needs the help of a tow or other mechanical breakdowns. That said I need to discuss the serious gripe I have with Kia and Hyundai EV; they use LG Chem batteries! Of all the cars using LG Chem battery packs, they have the worst statistics of all. On average only around 1% of all EVs need to have the battery changed on warranty, but for those who use LG battery technology, they are up around 25% (Kia/Hyundai/Jaguar) and even 33% like the Chevy Bolt EV! That is just too high a risk!
in Romania Ioniq6 , 77 kw , 229 Hp, 40,000 euros final price, the Luxury model with classic exterior mirrors with an on-board image camera for signaling -, it is much more comfortable than my former Ioniq5, I really like the new toy
Hi David, would love for you to compare the "default best car" for many people, which is the Tesla Model 3. Could you do an unbiased review between the Ioniq 6 and the Tesla Model 3? For example, you mentioned the haptic/hard buttons vs. the singular screen. However, it's my understanding the Tesla Model 3 SR will get 250-275watts/mile and the Ioniq is closer to 300. Also, the Tesla handles quite well as well. So I feel like the audience needs to understand what's important to them and decide accordingly. I'll be honest.. I could care less about panel gaps as long as it's not outrageously bad but i'm not a Tesla fanboi either
I am of the opinion that David tries to see the attitude of makes by checking the basic build quality. I just wish Tesla should take this seriously if they want to be the ultimate leader in the mobility industry.
I appreciate the testing for panel gaps & paint thickness way more than coupon or Twinkie storage. Some factories are just better than others and this impacts the life of the vehicle
Beautiful car, highest safety rating, fastest charging, superbly finished, nice interior, etc, etc. I’ll see what it’s like later this week when I take delivery.
what a refreshing review! I love how you talk about panel gaps and etc. that's my thing!! and that's one of the reason i passed on model 3 when i was shopping for a new car few years back.
I got my car yesterday and my favourite feature on the ionic 6 is the driving automatic it stops behind cars and when the car moves on it starts to move and when you select Lane keeping it does all of it so you can virtually Drive this hands-free and the best place to do this is to rummage through your handbag while you're in traffic jam and put on some lipstick knowing the car will not smashed into anything it will just stop immediately when it see an object in near location I'm a female driver not very good with computers but so far I've learnt to put the car in automatic drive at the speed that I want it to without anyone telling me what to do it's quite easy to use the system I haven't had much time to sit down and try and work out how it's done but I've managed to do the features mentioned and I'm happy it's a lovely smooth ride it worth every penny worth buying even for ladies who think they can't drive big cars and I would say go for it❤ you truly will love it now I wish I got the red one
David, I want to purchase the 2023 Lexus GX460. How late in 2023 can I purchase one. You have the knowledge about the Tahara plant to hopefully find out for me. I’m in California. Thank you!
That's 50k before the 10k markup. There's no way I pick this over my model 3 LR. The model 3 is faster, has a sportier feel, and the Tesla charging network is unbeatable.
I am sorry, but I will still go with a Tesla model Y vehicle. The prices seem to be similar and with Tesla I don't need to go through the greedy dealerships and their buying process. I am also waiting for the GM 2024 Ensoniq EV to come out and what their model pricings will be. The Ensoniq EV will have similar features as the IONIQ 6 and it is a SUV type model. Yes the Tesla has fewer buttons, but it is the features and battery package that more interest myself. I also prefer AWD for my vehicle since I live in a wintertime State. Plus I want a hatchback or SUV type vehicle, not a Sedan. Also prefer a US built car rather than a Japanese built one. Did a search for pricings here in the US on the IONIQ 6 EV and allot of them are around 52,000 or more at dealerships. But thanks for the review. Take care.
I completely agree. These Hyundai's are over 50k without including the 10k markup that most of them have. After buying through Tesla, I will never step in to a dealership and deal with their bs ever again. Hopefully more carmakers start selling through their website like Tesla.
I remember when GoldStar was the cheapest, worst TV available, and Sony was king. Now I own an LG (Lucky GoldStar) TV. Does the Ionic 6 battery use pouch cells or cylindrical? Thanks for the video.
Nice looking car David, thanks for the review. I enjoy listening to you talk about cars. I have a question, does the Battery charger come with the car? if not , how much is the battery charger? I would like to have seen how big the trunk was and a look at the motor. Thank you again David. Cheers from Florida.
Since the 90s, I've been rooting for Korean cars to be great someday, but the one Kia I bought had so many problems, I don't think I could trust them again.
This car looks like a winner. About the only thing I don't like about it design wise is the rear. The back looks smashed down, for lack of a better phrase and there are those weird vertical lines in the back. They look weird and should be removed. Obviously, Tesla has the advantage of the super charger network. It's great that you can charge it to 80% in as quick as 18 minutes...if you could actually find a charger that does that. I've seen so many videos and the few 350 kW chargers out there from Electrify America and EVGo are always, ALWAYS broken. And as you mentioned, Tesla still qualifies for the $7,500 rebate in the US, which is gives Tesla another huge advantage. I'd have no problem with the Hyundai. I wish they made the Ioniq 5 in the same style. Kind of like the Model Y. I don't like the look of the Ioniq 5 at all.
Excellent review David as always. Can you explain to me why the electrics cars are so poorly availbles. I don't know if it is everywhere in Canada or just in Quebec but i would like to understand.
I think Canada is a small market, less laws to force EV sales and it is more profitable to sell in the USA becauses of huge markups. Its very easy to buy an EV south of the border, getting a good price is more difficult.
I'm honest and unbiased, so when there is a really good car (which happens to be a Korean product), then I would recommend. In this case, the IONIQ 6 is truly great.
Reasons why this car is not the best EV for that price. Turning circle over 12m, to low for tall people in the back and with panorama roof also in the front. Very aggressiv lane assist. Average consumption. Cheap materials. Personal, one of the ugliest cars I have ever driven.
@@tamjeanell I have another electric car I think it's good that there is now a nice selection of electric cars. There is no such thing as the best, but there are electric cars that best meet personal needs.
What an educational video. While I’m not a fan of the design and always had a bias against Korean carmakers since I remember the debacle when Hyundai launched in the us; it is good to see that they have improve their quality and match or even exceed Japanese carmakers . Now we need to increase manufacturing to satisfy demand and get rid of dealer markups.
I like this much more than a Tesla. I want a screen in front of the driver with critical information and buttons for the most frequently used features so I don’t have to go rooting through menus to find what I want.
The one really big reason to buy this car is its fantastic range. But you can only get it at the lowest trim!!! That's ding number 1 in its 200 micron hood paint job. Then the trunk space is virtually non-existent. How can you go on long distance trips or pick people up at the airport if you can't fit your luggage? Ding number 2 on its rear door panel. You're head is going to hit the roof in the back seat if you're any taller than a worker at Wonka Chocolates. Ding number 3 on its folding mirror. By now, the functionality and equivalent range in an Ioniq 5 are starting to look a lot more enticing. There's a reason why these are selling cheaper than Ioniq 5's in the U.S. now. They don't have to fix all the defects, but, come on man, at least let us get 18" wheels on the nicer trims!
First time I saw this car had to have it, have now had it for a month and still loving it and getting lots of looks on the road, people are asking what is it and can I take a picture or sit in it.
I owned (briefly) a 2022 KONA EV before it was lemoned, the APP was terrible, does this use BlueLink? I found BlueLink to be dreadful, it would literally tell you that you are using to much and not to keep the APP running on my phone. The APP experience is so important for any car that has an APP. The issues with the 12v battery is a big issue, does this car's 12v phantom drain? We have to wait and see before we give it an award. That being said, when we were signing the KONA over to Hyundai, we saw this car upfront, it was nice, but we are off the Hyundai brand until they catch up.
Thank you for such a unique review, really appreciate the educational nature of your video...really enjoyable and informative...top car...I think Lazy Tesla and the irrelevant Japanese manufacturers (from an EV perspective) are out of the game now....the Koreans have clearly got their act together.. .and delighted to see their results 🎉🎉🎉
Hi David, This video was outstanding, you truly can find the best in anything… It’s a beautiful looking vehicle with a nice fit and finish… Wonderfully priced I don’t know about the reliability and dependability that’s going to take time, but I do like the fact that it charges quick and has a long distance I also too I’m going to put this at the top of my list for electric cars even though I’m not gonna buy electric probably until the late 30s early 40s. I love my V8 Lexus powered engines and hopefully I can drive them with no problems through the 20s and 30s at least But this vehicle I love the color of the paint the quality I pretty go by everything you recommend and all the way around it’s a nice looking vehicle what I’m most concerned about is the reliability and dependability, which again will take time but the quality control and everything you pointed out is definitely Lexus level. The only thing I will say in my opinion, I think Lexus beats out any vehicle in the world when it comes to reliability and dependability if Hyundai can meet that, Lexus is going to have some competition at hand… Again DAVID you never cease to amaze me or any of your subscribers. You’re creeping up on 100,000 subscribers and there’s gonna be hundreds of thousands more to come. You have a strong law of attraction because of your talent coupled with the fact that you’re a wonderful person if it was up to me, I’d give you a lifetime achievement award in the automobile industry no joke thank you I million for having the passion to do what you do… Respectfully Submitted, JimmyUSAF 🇺🇸✈️❤️🤍💙💚🇮🇹🇨🇦🇯🇵⭐️🙏👍😇🌎
Great video. Thanks. On another note, I initially thought you were in the UK, the street looks very similar to an area near me. Beautiful location and car.
My Mazda had to go back for a full respray after 6 months as I'd noticed hundreds of chips. I was suprised how easily they agreed to do it. The service manager said it was 45 microns which ment nothing to me till I watched this.
I had reserved this car to buy on launch. Wife got an EV, so I cancelled, but still intend to buy. This car, here in Korea, has plummeted in value. I can find models less than one year old for minus 30% of their original price. My guess it's due to popularity; most people want an SUV here. Good for me though now as I still want it, but I worry about the long term market for this car.
Ioniq 6 is nice car, but please worry more about your health than any car. Poor Irv Gordon cared so much for his car but he died premature death because he didn't take care of himself.
Best engineering logical review of this car. It does looks like a sporty Porsche. Now I just need the "mead head" emotional perspective form Savagegeese so I can make up my mind.
I am new to your channel. Liked the style of the presentation and have subscribed. Best looking electric and ice! Aero looks excellent. A few things not mentioned in the video that I was hoping to hear: 1. What type of charge port? 2. What battery size in KWH. 3. Power train efficiency--kw/km? 4. Warrantees?
Drove it fresh off the truck in boost mode, no comparison to the MYP I own. Simply not willing to sacrifice driving experience for better fit and finish - must give credit, it is a well done machine.
