I think they see us as equals really. Obviously I can't be certain as cats don't speak English or any languages but I think they think and feel very similarly to us but they don't have the same complexity of understanding and expressing what they're thinking. They definitely understand basic concepts but for example watching telly and understanding what's happening on EastEnders is too deep for their understanding. They just think we're entertained by watching other humans like they are watching other cats and animals
1) Sam brought my mother a snake and layed it at her feet one time; it was still a little bit alive. 2) My cat, Moses, caught the little red pointer light one time. He said it tasted like carpet. 3) Whenever a neighborhood cat brought me a dead animal and layed it at my back door, I waited until none of them were around before I disposed of it. I didn't want them to be insulted.
Biggest sign: You humans have your screens, go off for half the day in your big metal boxes and come back all stressed and tired, then barely have energy for food before plopping into bed. Meanwhile us cats just sleep, groom, hunt(play) all day. Life's fun if you don't turn it so unnecessarily complicated
The cats have a point, we are a bit hopeless. Leave me alone in a forest with nothing but my wits and it's a good bet I will die of exposure, poisoning, dehydration or infection quite quickly. A cat would just go hunting then find a dry spot under something to fall asleep.
