Thank you for the shoutout! It was really great to get feedback on this and hear your perspective. We are definitely due for a big site update, but are thrilled with the work we’ve done and the feedback we get daily on our content.
Great comment Gael about writing style, this is often overlooked by writers. I also use tools like Clarity to check heatmaps and user recording to see how users interact with a post.
I also agree that the statement with the business cards sounds stupid but Google puts a hidden meaning behind this. They want to say that today direct traffic is a crucial ranking factor as well as brand searches.
Hey Mark & Gael, thanks so much for this video and everything you do! I really appreciate it. Also, I don't want to sound unappreciative or anything, but is there any way you guys could condense these types of videos down to like 10 to 15 minutes? I feel that not only will more people watch, but the information will be much more easily digestible. It's a huge time commitment to watch 1 hour and 15 minutes. Thanks!
@@passiveincomepathways Yes, so do I....it's when the unscripted free-ranging talk often surfaces great ideas and folks can give away more than if its scripted!
@@AuthorityHacker More content in a shorter format is good but I (and hopefully other followers as well) would be more than happy if you would not agree with this guy :)) I would watch these long formats from the start to the end even if it would be 3 hours long. The amount of helpful info you share is insane! Thank you for your work!
I feel like Google is just becoming like Tiktok - it's less focused on SEO or what works for SEO and focused on more engagement - more entertaining, more relatable content. The more you are to your niche, the more your personality shows, the more people can relate to you, the more they interact with your content. Does that make sense, lol...I wonder what would happen 3, 5 years from now, when there's just so much content and video online? What's next?
For example I promote auto responders on my website so in order to rank in my commercial and transactional keywords promoting these auto responders wouldn’t I need to first become a topical authority in email marketing with most of if not all informational posts to accrue the relevant audience and leverage my commercial intent posts or how would I go about this? And what topic should I create a topical map for to promote these products with commercial and transactional intents and what should the ratio be? I heard it’s 60% informational and 40% commercial and transactional
Great content, thank you! Curious: Do you guys think Google cares what our social following is? Something else they are maybe factoring in to our “ expertise”?
I doubt the raw social following numbers play into it, else anyone could buy followers to push this. It's probably more indirect: when you build a brand with a real following, people search for your, you get a lot of direct + referral traffic, repeat visitors etc. These things matter. It's the social following that causes them.
@@AuthorityHacker affiliate sites are what I'm most interested in, I don't do a lot of display ads. Interviews like you had with Derek from NapLab are also extremely helpful. It's just nice to see something actually work these days that's not Reddit or Forbes. Gives me hope!
Does anyone know what WP plugin is used on recipe sites like the one shown? I've seen it on lots of sites, and wonder if its a plugin or a theme feature?
It's clear that both of you bring valuable insights and examples to the discussion on creating successful websites. Mark's delivery is notably clear and accessible, which is great. Gael, your enthusiasm and knowledge are evident, but your pace and clarity could be improved to enhance comprehension. Considering diverse audiences, including those with varying hearing abilities or those accustomed to different accents, slowing down and incorporating pauses could significantly aid understanding. Additionally, the dynamic between you two is an essential aspect of your presentation. While passion and confidence are positive traits, ensuring they're perceived as inclusive and respectful can foster a more positive reception. Balancing each other's strengths and working on these areas can make your advice even more impactful.
Thanks for the interesting episode. You mentioned that many sites doing well don't have many display ads. It makes me wonder what the limit is. It also makes me wonder if you only use Google Adsense and it's automatic ad placement, if it will then all be fine. Google won't go against Google guidelines I'd think. But I wouldn't be confident either.
I don't think there is a limit and if you are above it = penalized. It's not so rigid. Rather, I think it's just one part of the equation that Google, and quality raters, use to evaluate things. We've seen sites with ads doing absolutely fine. But they tend to get a lot of other things right.
