@@mvpmickey1 I wasn't around quite that early, but in early v6, I can tell you that (a) people still didn't know what they were doing, but (b) they sure thought they did. I wish I could recall some of the insane garbage-tier advice I got back then from people who were much better than me. The problem was that there was no place to learn between playing against AI and the "noob" matches on battlenet, which always had at least one stomper. Even standard matches were -ap, and if your opponents all picked too fast, you knew you were up against a stack and were screwed. Meanwhile, your team was lucky to get a single support, let alone two good ones. I can only imagine it 10 times worse if the supports were expected to pool all their items to the carry. No doubt you at least had to pool together a Midas, cause otherwise you were majorly losing gold. Sounds . . . great.

@@EebstertheGreat Culture is different back then. Dota is about Theorycrafting and Imagination. There are no such thing as Meta. Seems like you wanted Meta, without knowing there is no such thing. We change the game depending on what we think is fun, or funny. Forums was created to brainstorm ideas. So basically Dota is all about trolling, before the word Trolling become a thing.

@@mvpmickey1 Trolling was a thing lol, and I was on those forums. But I'm talking about a typical person's experience coming into the game. The first month is just 9 people telling you that you suck with apparently no way to get better. The second month is basically doing fine while your teammates shittalk nonstop and usually at least one person massively outplays everyone else. It's not exactly a great time. By the start of month 3, the game can actually become fun, though you still have maphackers, griefers, and morons (though oddly bug abuse wasn't much of an issue back then; bugs were mostly a thing to learn to avoid, or a party trick like fountain hooking with Chen). But also, to be clear, people weren't just ignorant of the meta. They were outright bad. Forgetting to buy sentries against Clinkz isn't a a meta decision, just bad. Declining to get boots until 15 minutes was simply bad 99.9% of the time. People might call a hero miss, but that was the limit of their communication. That or type "b" after you get ganked. Even after I started to stomp in pubs, I was only winning like 60% of games, and the proliferation of different ladders made it kinda meaningless and unpredictable anyway. Is my DC record as good as LC? Or Dotabuff? IDK.

lol, this is not the player's fault tho, this is Valve's fault, that'd be like sending someone to jail because you offered 1000 dollars for free but then you say "I didn't mean to, so you robbed me". Why on Earth is Valve not doing anything about this gigantic bug tho, I have no idea
