Playing first, third and pitcher my whole life. Learning to throw a softball without it tailing or sailing was weird. Putting more fingers behind the ball was weird but helped instead of the usual two when I played baseball. Just gotta work on not closing my eyes when fielding haha
Im getting a lot of help from your videos. Im a recreational 1 time a week usually, slow pitch softball player. Im going to step up my practice and strength traing but need as many tips for throwing from outfield that i can get.
Great video. I'm in my 40's and getting into slow pitch after having not played ball for ~10 years and all these tips and fundamentals videos on your channel have been super helpful!
Dan, I pitched at a 5 star level for 14 yrs, Nick Punto and Pat Burrell were some of my compatriots! :D....... I live in a small town where no one has talent, but Im trying to put together a slow pitch Softball Club where I can teach and help folks have fun...... I would love if you could give me some pointers in regards to such a newb league level..... thats what I dont know how to address :D
The Pro step is a very good mechanics, it does well to shooting to 2nd base, but for going to home from outfield or to first, the best way is to correctly use the crow hop
every MLB outfielder uses the pro step exclusively these days to every base; these are the best outfielders in the world. Sorry, but the best way is not the crow hop.
@@SnapSoftball honestly from what I'm seeing it seems some use one some use the other. I was a bit incorrect in my statement, but I don't think one is really better than the other
@@SnapSoftball and after trying both, I think body type also matters on which one might work for someone. Definitely a good portion use the pro step now
Mechanics evolve and change and circle back around in some cases. Crow hop will always be better in my opinion. When done properly it’s faster and allows more momentum into the throw
its how the body works as a system. Watch my other, more in-depth videos on the topic, I explain it in in more detail. All high-level throwers in baseball and softball do this.
Great video coach, I’ve been watching your videos non-stop as I just got into softball but my throwing is my weakest part. You referred to a net to throw at but can’t find the link in the more info section. Would you mind linking one you’d recommend please?
I cant remember the brand of the one I have, but it's from Amazon - I think a 7x7 size. Just check the reviews there, they're all pretty similar, it looks like. search for "7x7 throwing net" and you'll find what you need.
Awesome videos , any chance you can talk about infielder throwing mentality during the game ? I have no problems in the practice , but become nervous and too cautious about losing controls or even hitting the runners which make my throwing all over the place , any tips would be much appreciated
I was the same. Key is to stay calm take it one step at a time, dont rush it more then needed, make the catch, set your feet and grip, aim at there chest. Make it feel routine in the game. Also know when to hold it, bad grip, fast runner thats gunna beat it, never through it if theres no chance of making the play. Keep the forces on so you have more options for outs later in the inning
slow pitcher that pitches and practices alone often . I do a thing i call my 40-40-40 . 40 hits off the tee , 40 throws when collecting my hits , then 40 pitches . X's 2 .
@@SnapSoftball 😭 nobody knows it sucks im not even joking lol i look like an uncoordinated idiot trying to throw back to the pitcher if im catching but i can play outfield fine and even throw down to second on point
@@SnapSoftball if you have any specific tips for transitioning from throwing a baseball to a softball thatd be awesome ive watched a bunch of your videos already and looked around youtube nobody specifically touches on transitioning from throwing baseballs to softballs only the hitting which i dont really have a problem with i also have kind of small hands not sure if thats really making it harder for me or just in my head
sorry to be cavalier about it but there's really not much to discuss to the transition - it's a different object. you throw it basically the exact same way. it sounds like your short-distance throwing issues are just mental - a case of the yips, it sounds like.
@@SnapSoftball kinda figured it may be the same thing but was not sure if there was something i was missing I appreciate the feedback anyways think im just gonna get throwing more often and see if that works itself out
