You are so sweet to offer help to Janey. We need more people like you

I can only imagine her frustration. My garden is old and established and will survive just fine if I spend my time elsewhere and I enjoy working at Janeys so much, we just have fun so it is my pleasure!

Oh thank you! I am trying to keep active, I know winter is tough on my body as I get so lazy. I feel better if I keep moving.

I love phlox but I haven't had too much luck what with powdery mildew. But have encouraged me to keep trying. Have a great day young lady.

You can do it! I get a bit of mildew but the phlox are behind other flowers that hide most of the foliage so I don't really see it and it doesn't effect the flowers which rise above it. That is how I am able to enjoy my hollyhocks too, their foliage gets this nasty rust fungus and really look ugly but with the further back I can enjoy the flowers still. I do remove the leaves that are the worst looking.

Once again a great video! Yes, please try to give a perspective of your yard, I just thought the other day that I wished I knew if you were in the front, back or side 😂😂! Thanks Pam… I might just give phlox another try, they are so beautiful. 🇨🇦 ZN4

Thank you for a helpful video….you mentioned cuttings: I have a small phlox cutting, about 1 ½ “ high, a bit spindly. I was thinking of nipping out the growing tip so it bushes out more. Good idea? Thank you.

That is hard to say, with it being so tiny it might be better to let it get a bit larger before pinching it.

I love phlox in the garden. That purple is such a pretty color. I should divide and transplant some of mine. It's too late in the season for me now. Bonny

You can do it in spring too as they emerge from the soil. I just prefer the fall as I have so many other things going in the spring. I have white ones in the Secret Cottage Garden I should add to the Entrance Garden as well. I love white in the garden.

Hi Pamela 🤗 Did you have difficulty with the gophers this year? They are the bane of my existence here in Jamestown 😅😫
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 10 месяцев назад
They were less of a problem this year but yes they are a huge problem. I am reinstalling some raised beds with protective wire mess on the bottoms so I can plant and enjoy things I know they want to eat. I am sharing soon in another video where and why.

What is better? Dividing in the fall or spring? I was going to Divide in the spring. Thank you!
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 10 месяцев назад
Depends, for me Fall works best but you can do this in Spring just as easily just as the shoots emerge from the soil.

Hello, Is compost the same as potting soil ? Also my phlox has mold, it was beautiful all summer. I’m going to replant it. I’m taking it out of my garden box to an in ground spot. Do I need to worry about the mold. Is it just particles that come from the wind? I Enjoy your. Videos. Thank you from Gardengirl ! 🌷

@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 10 месяцев назад
Hey Gardengirl! The compost I get is from a local organic turkey ranch and it is part of my DIY potting soil, it needs things added to it to be used in containers as a potting medium. I use either my homemade or bulk purchased compost as a garden soil amendment and not a potting soil by itself. I have seen on british garden shows what we call potting soil in the US is called potting compost so I can see where confusion can come in. Powdery mildew is common on many phlox and though it is unsightly it isn't fatal to the plant usually. This happens in more humid areas. I got some this year too as we had a very cool fall.
