Most people will never afford such a machine or will not spend this amount of money becouse it’s a lot for a sewing machine. But it’s nice to see where technology has taken sewing machines. I am a sewing machine enthusiast and I am hoping to one day soon buy the Brother innovis 1800q model or the Brother innovis 1300. These models are affordable and really nice and full of great features. I love Brother machines in general, they are amazing!

Both machines that you have your eye on look great and filled with tons of features👍 What I like about Brother is that they have good selection of machines in various price ranges - makes selecting a right one so much easier!🤗

There are a few things to be mindful of: (1) computerized machines are only as good as the warranty and parts (and proximity to a provider) available to service them; (2) having "more" sometimes means having less in terms of performance; (3) used machines are often a good way to trade up without paying full retail. (4) Worth having a well performing mechanical machine as a backup. Many of these have a useful life far beyond our own!

Thank you for such insightful comment! I would add that first point - availability to service machine - is very important to all types of machines. When I was buying an industrial machine, one of the main factors was that dealership had to be in same city as I live - I definitely needed a safety of knowing that help is near by!🤗

Being as old as I am, I will probably not purchase another sewing machine. But if I was younger and had more years, I would consider a high end machine.

I have a brother but it’s much cheaper just under $200.00. It has the button on front to start it. Some days I have good leg days and some I have bad leg days. So I never use foot control. I do have a light weight manual I use on our extended trips to Florida with foot control. They both work for me.

I’m still trying to master sewing with start/stop button - with all those years of sewing using foot controller, using a button is a bit confusing🤗

I love the story about your grandmother. I do some work that involves artificial intelligence, and there are many ethical issues about AI, of course ('robots will take over the planet,' etc.). But your story reminds me that some advances in technology empower people to pursue an interest (a career, a hobby ... ) that otherwise might have been closed off to them. Particularly for people who are differently abled. Or people who, through physical decline, have lost some measure of control over their body (or their ability to communicate with others). That one 'simple' change in sewing machine design-having a 'start-sewing' button on the machine itself--has likely enabled tens of thousands of people to begin sewing. It's not just a tech advancement; it's advancing our ability to fully participate in things that give us joy. Great story, great videos.

Some of the features (like start/stop button) can be found in more machines, in different price ranges. I can’t wait to try the laser function more - I’ll be doing a quilted jacket, it probably will be very handy for such project!🤗

I was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer in late 2022. I already had two BErninas which I felt lucky to have. My hand bought me the 880+. The top of the range sewing and embroidery machine. Wow. The Rolls Toyce of machines. I’m sure it could do my laundry, plan a dinner party and do my tax return as well as see beautifully. My one complaint is the needle threader. It is possible user error but that one thing is frustrating

My Brother SE625 has a lot of those extra features and also embroiders on a smaller hoop. Under $300 a couple years back on sale. I think it's just been discontinued. I have 3 dozen machines including a few big industrials but this machine definitely gets sewing time.

This looks like a nice machine with plenty harp space and you have presented it beautifully. But I don't hear anything, apart from the embroidery function, that my 7yr old £300 Janome can't do. For $9,000 I would want a heck of lot more. You don't mention if it comes with a custom built table or the speed of stitch per minute or if it can make me a cup of tea! (Last one was a joke) Love your channel btw.

To be honest, this machine has so many features, it would take a full hour just to name it all😅 This was a bit of a first-impressions about advanced sewing machines, but I probably will make an update video once I get familiar more with this machine (there’s tons of features that I can’t wait to explore)🤗 While it can’t make tea, it’s possible to watch videos on that large screen - that was an unexpected feature for sure!😅
@SewingandCaring
@SewingandCaring 8 месяцев назад
@@Julija_Gobere the equivalent bernina and pfaffs at that price point do amazing tricks with buttonholes. I wouldn't be surprised if you hold your button up to the screen and it calculates everything for you like they do. The huge thing this machine can do that a £300 machine can't is move the feed dogs in multiple directions, and they tend to build their features around that. Edit: Yup, from the blurb "Sew sideways, yes you can sew left to right or vice versa, or even at 45-degree angles."

If you have one of those magnetic seam guides, I think that helps a lot with equally distancing your seam :) Also, if you need in some instances to have your seam marked, you can do it with a ruler and chalk :) but you won’t need it that often. I know it doesn’t replace this laser but…
@danielamaus
@danielamaus 8 месяцев назад
@@luciatat4084 I already use a magnetic seam guide, at least for long seams, but sometimes the fabric still bunches up there or leaves a gap. I need something that is directly in front of the foot so it is within my main focus. And chalk or other markings, hmm, yes, that could help, but that's boring, not a fancy gimmik like a laser. 😅

Thank you Julija this was really interesting. I don't know anything about computerised machines so this was very informative! I always thought the start-stop switch was the reverse sew button! I see from the comments you'll be doing a further explanation of the advanced features so I'll watch that one too. I wonder with any type of switch from mechanical to computerised machinery (in any industry), whether when something goes wrong, it's a really difficult fix. I like the fact that with mechanical things, you can fix things relatively easily, or salvage old parts, but with computerised things it seems more complicated. Anyway, thanks for the video!
@Julija_Gobere

I wondered about service, too🤔 But then again - none of my other machines had any issues in all these years of sewing, so I would not know how to fix either of them 😅😳

Downside: When I bought my drop-down sewing table, I had to get it for my largest machine, which means that with the smaller machines the gaps have to be filled in with books. Upside: with a real high-end machine, the feed dogs can go in multiple directions, and it's not only very cool to watch, but it also means the stitch quality is higher on even simple embroidery stitches.

Great insights!👍 I was looking into drop-down table (but the one that folds into a cupboard when not used), but decided against for the same reason you mentioned. Plus, I wasn’t sure if a drop-down table (foldable one) would handle well machine of such weight🤔

Wo, if this converted to my currency, I can get a 2nd hand car 🥲 or maybe an industrial embroidery sewing machine. Brother in my country is way too expensive provably because of the import tax. But other brand are cheaper, 🤔 not sure why.

I miss the sewing machines that were made of metal and very heavy until the late 70s. The closet new made that I've gotten is with the Singer Heavy Duty and to be honest its a big compromise as I can't afford an industrial walking foot zigzag machine. Compared to my entry level Bernina Bernette, the Singer sews like a dream. I do like the decorative embroidery stitches so I can do my own thing with embellishments. My aunt who wa a quadriplegic would have loved the start machine button. She jerry-rigged her foot petal so that she could push down on it with her elbow and be able to slowly sew.
@annakonda6289
@annakonda6289 8 месяцев назад
Sadly, the name is a bit of a scam. There is nothing heavy duty about them. They just used a grey-ish aluminium case to pretend it was sturdier. But the insides use the same plastic parts as other low end machines.
@bohemiansusan2897
@bohemiansusan2897 8 месяцев назад
@@annakonda6289 the inner frame has more weight than most and the motor is beefier than most machines. Most all machines use plastic parts these days. I've seen the Singer Heavy Duty taken apart completely and compared to others. Am currently sewing heavy weight denim jeans right now and so have no issues doing it. Some days I fantasize about bringing back the old all metal machines. Well I can dream.

Your videos are very informative. Great job. Would love to see a video on pattern making using a projector to cut up your pattern. Just wondering what your thoughts are on these devices. One such is from Singer called Ditto. I did not like the reviews on it, so I was looking at alternatives. Have you ever looked into it?
@Julija_Gobere
@Julija_Gobere 8 месяцев назад
I was really excited when I first learned about the projectors, but the more I see them used, the less convinced I am🤔 It is quite an expensive investment, takes up space (which I don’t have much), but the most important part is the precision: for example, when working with striped fabrics, I do lots of markings on pattern details, to make sure the stripes are lined up on all parts where I want it. Not sure how it would be possible with projector🤔 Another thing is I worry about fabric movement when cutting and also the lines of projectors I’ve seen used on social media are not nearly as thin as the lines made by chalk. That being said, I love the idea that it’s very quick to setup a pattern and that -in some pattern companies - pattern can be customised to fit exact body measurements. So there are great pluses, but also a few minuses, which are keeping me from getting one. But I might change my mind in the future!🤗

I'm surprised you lead off with the start/stop button, that's a common feature in even the cheapest computerized machines. Same with the threader, though the motorized version here is admittedly very posh. Lasers can be added to any machine via aftermarket accessories, but everyone I know who has one (either aftermarket or came with the machine) thought it would be amazing at first, but never used it after the novelty wore off. Honestly I think machines like this are largely for people who have run out of other things to spend their money on. It's a luxury purchase, and if you have the means then go for it, but I'm not sure anyone is going to convince me that the value curve didn't flatten off well before we got to this model.
@luciatat4084
@luciatat4084 8 месяцев назад
I agree that the start/stop button is a very common feature. I personally haven’t seen one computerized machine that didn’t have it, starting with the entry models. One certainly doesn’t need to spend all this money to get all the features they need in a machine. This is indeed a luxury machine, for people that don’t know what to spend money on. :) it also looks outstanding. I am well aware that combined machines (sewing and embroidery in one) such as this one are more expensive but not necessarily to this level.
@Julija_Gobere
@Julija_Gobere 8 месяцев назад
I’ve always sewn using mechanical machines with foot controllers, so I wanted to highlight the benefit of start/stop button in more advanced machines and how helpful it can be. It’s definitely a feature I wish was available years ago, my grandma would have loved using it!🤗 I, on the other hand, still need to learn how to sew using start/stop button - I keep forgetting about it and keep pressing the invisible foot controller😂
@Julija_Gobere

I hope to make a more in-depth video specifically on this machine, once I use it a bit more🤗
@luciatat4084
@luciatat4084 8 месяцев назад
@@Julija_Gobere I tried using it too but it wasn’t easy for me, since I’ve always used the foot pedal for sewing. I have anxiety that I won’t be able to press the start/stop button at the precise moment I need the stitch to end. Although I do manage to do it in time, that anxiety doesn’t go away, don’t know why :)) I have found that if I am sewing seams where less control is needed, like a straight seam, I can use this function more easily but if I am sewing a more difficult fabric or a curved seam or things like that, I need my foot pedal. I just don’t understand how some people are able to sew garments using this button instead of the foot pedal, it seems difficult to me. But maybe with a lower speed it’s doable. :)

I really need this much technology but not an option. However I loved the sweater you made and the satin stitch letters are perfect. I have a Janome Memory Craft 9450 which is no where near as sophisticated as the stellaire2 but I have been sewing my granddaughters names in 9mm satin stitch which haven’t turned out too bad but do you have any tips on manouvering when creating O or any curved letter. Though I’m assuming the Stellaire made them automatically. I enjoyed hearing and seeing its features. 😊
@Julija_Gobere
@Julija_Gobere 8 месяцев назад
Yes, Stellaire made those letters automatically, but I've also done such embroidery on standard sewing machines before: I used free-motion embroidery and lowered feed dogs, which allowed to move fabric in any direction; and before stitching, I drew the silhouette I wanted to create on top of the fabric - this way, it was easier to fill it with stitches nicely. Hope this helps a bit!
@Tweeza57
@Tweeza57 8 месяцев назад
@@Julija_Gobere I think the Janome lowers the feed dogs as it’s one of its options - I was more thinking how to move the fabric when going round a curve- I had the stitching piling up on the inner and spaces on the outer edge - I guess this is more about skill than the machine - ps it’s lovely of you to reply it blesses me thank you - and I wish you and your family a blessed joyous Christmas celebration of the birth of our Lord and saviour 💝🙂

I used to believe such expensive machines were for people having businesses (so that the machine will earn for itself) - not just for hobby. Yet the professionals use the industrial machines and professional embriodery machines 🤔 Hence now I assume, such machines are for EXTREMELY wealthy hobbists... Thank you for showing it, I enjoyed watching your video (as always :* )

I’ve seen machines like this used in a boutique setting - when one person sews, quilts and embroiders custom orders. Boutiques need a lot of versatility, quality while also saving space, which a machine like this provides 🤗
