Jane's brief pause in "that's where they put the...cockpit" is perfect comic timing. Also, "You're going to find the encounter with Anubis curiously low-key"...no, he's from an entirely different pantehon.
In Sekiro shadows die twice in three of the game's three endings you fight Genichiro Ashina again armed with a mortal blade of his own, and while defeating Genichiro is pretty easy he realizes that he can't defeat you on his own and uses his own life force to summon his grandfather Isshin Ashina in his physical prime to fight you who is a much more challenging opponent.
@@CursedGuard00 Yep, they did two videos recently titled "7 Bosses That Were Immediately Killed by a Much Scarier Boss". The 2nd is a commenter edition.
Mother Brain at the end of Super Metroid. At first you might think it's just a repeat of the fight from the original Metroid game, but upon "defeating" her, she suddenly has a cyborg body and much stronger attacks. And you can't even kill her until the baby metroid gives you the Hyper Beam
Kraid too in a way. In Metroid 1, he was about your height and pretty damn hard. In Super Metroid, you mean a similar creature, but he's dead before you even realize that that looked an awful lot like M1's Kraid. And then in the next room, the _real_ 2-storey-tall Kraid stands up.
One that comes to mind for me is Hyness from Kirby Star Allies. Not only does he have a fake-out first phase where he is notably weak, but even his main fight just ends up leading into the true final boss, Void Termina, after he sacrifices himself and the three mage-sisters to summon it.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow later introduces Paranoia, a cackling boss who lives inside of mirrors, periodically emerging to strike at Soma. Except that the mirror is only about 6 feet, resulting in a Paranoia who is only Soma's own size. Then you kill it and arrive in the room next door with a twenty-foot mirror. Ruh-roh.
Reminds me of a similar boss fight experience...just that it actually was that easy. Using the "LS-66 Sabre Direct Energy Rifle" against the final boss of Deus Ex Human Revolution. Expected something like a second phase after completing the boss fight in about 5 seconds, but nothing happened and there was the end of the game. Was just seriously lucky, because I used the one exact weapon, that fires through her shield, bypassing the actual boss fight. XD
Penguin in Arkham city. A little sneaking around and not getting shot with a freeze gun, then you run up behind him and punch him off a table. It looks like you've won but now the floor is gone and you have to heart punch a zombie a lot
Kraid in Super Metroid. When the game first came out, people were only familiar with Kraid from the NES game, where he was the same height as Samus. In Super Metroid, as you’re heading to Kraid’s lair, you encounter “False Kraid”, who is the same height as Samus, but goes down pretty easily. Just a few rooms later, you encounter the real Kraid who is now several stories tall.
In UN Squadron on the SNES, on the final level you face off against an Osprey. The game has no mini-bosses. Just a single boss at the end of each of level. So when you see this massive Osprey & thr music changes, you assume it's the final boss. It's super easy. You just equip the Falcon special weapon to shoot the missle launchers it shoots on the ground. It's main gun doesn't even shoot at you. It's main gun is angled towards the ground & it flies so low you are never in range. It shoots missles out the top. Just stay to the left & never fly over it & you won't be hit. Then as you think the game is ending the music changes again as you face off against the Heavy Bomber Project 4 Airship. A "plane" that makes the Spruce Goose look like an old time Bi-Plane. It's so big you can't see it all at once. It spans 3 screens. And in the game you'll find yourself in bullet hells for a minute, but if your quick enough & we'll armed enough you can take out everything shooting at you pretty quickly. The Heavy Bomber Project 4 Airship has some weapons that can't be destroyed so you have to keep dodging. It also has planes that fly out of it. Worst of all, you can only defeat it by bombing or napalming the center of the to expose it's core, which you can only do damage to if it doesn't retract. So unless you have enough special weapons left that can be dropped, shot upwards, or the Thunder Laser which is the only weapon that can shoot through the front of the ship to hit the core, you are in for an extremely long boss battle. Also, when game music is stressful just mute your TV. The music is designed to rattle you to make the game play harder.
Dr. Zed's evil "brother" Dr. Ned from borderlands was a good one. Beat him in a few shots and the credits start rolling only for a crazy monster version of him to tear through them to tell you that you are not done yet.
I always wondered where Shredder got his electric powers from? He's not a mutant, he doesn't have any kind of weapon that emits lightning or whatever. How can he do that?
Ceadeus, from MH3U. It just swims gracefully towards its hideout....until you, puny thing you are, annoy it enough. Then you get the boss music and the whole "beam of death" thing
I'm Scottish, and will now refer to all attempts at the accent as "Scott-ish" thank you Andy. I'll also be disappointed if those videos don't lead to Rick Astley! I've seen both the videos though so I'll just leave it and pretend that they do.
Boss arenas are suppose to portray how mighty boss is while providing the player a fair advantage against the boss the player can use (unless you count times the arena was set up so that way you use enemy arena to beat them self) but occasionally you ran into boss arena gives you such a severe advantage that wonder why boss had it built in first place. For example the boss arena for monarch in surge 2 ,only time I won against boss without dying and healing (I think I definitely didn’t die) in game I died to almost everything, as her arena make way to easy dodge her attacks (which allow me strike whenever she recovering from exhaustion without worry being hit) even when she does make part floor electrified.
This list can't possibly complete without... (gets to #5) Okay, that's better than what I had. In Dying Light, the main character is tasked by a small child with the sidequest Troll to take on what turns out to be a large Goon zombie, one of which was the very first boss fight you have in the entire game. Upon radioing back your success, you're rewarded with "That's not the Troll." Then the nearby wall explodes. "THAT'S the Troll."
Your first fight with Nier Automata’s Adam starts with you beating a lv. 1 baby who can’t fight back, and ends with a powerful machine learning your every move and finding new ways to counter them.
I’m hesitant about putting this as Monster Hunter monsters don’t really have “phases” but I absolutely loved Molten Tigrex from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. You fought it at the top of the tower and it was fucking massive but what takes you off guard it that it’s nowhere near as ferocious as any of the other Tigrex you’ve fought so far and it’s really slow and cumbersome and barely does more than a bite attack, then once you’ve enraged it, it just gets harder and faster constantly until you kill it and traps don’t work on it. I’ll never forget the stress of just how much it ramps up from the start of the fight where it’s barely even moving.
Funny thing is, the easy Bowser fight thing is prevalent across the entire New Super Mario Bros series; New Super Mario Bros (the game, not the series)’ first boss is an easy Bowser fight even. In fact, in EVERY installment of the New series, before that game’s final boss is a Bowser bridge fight. Also, funnily enough, every final boss has some variant of a bigger Bowser.
How about the one-notch Genichiro from the end of Sekiro? By that point, it's just hard enough to be disappointing as an end boss. Isshin, very kindly, fixes that issue in the grossest way possible.
There's also Genichiro, Way of Tomoe at the end of Sekiro. Sure he's got a fancy new attack that might trip you up a little, but other than that one attack, he's the same as he was last time you fought him and it only takes one deathblow to kill him. So you gut him, and then the real fight begins.
In Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 one of the later Story Missions has you take on the mysterious Knight Gundam, a seemingly sentient Mobile Doll adorned in European Medieval-style armour, complete with sword and shield, who doesn't offer that much of any sort of real challenge! Then you get a one-on-one against it in the final Story Mission where it powers up and is considerably tougher, to say the least!
How can you mention The Bard's Tale and not go beyond the first rat fight? The supposedly fearsome horse boss that just stands there and soaks up damage until dead is much more fiercely avenged with the heinous Nuckelavee straight from hell. Of course, you don't notice at first, but your next visit to a tavern suddenly offers an option to "jam with the musicians" on stage, leading to the game taunting you with a *song* as a "horse-killin' wanker who opened up hell" (among other things). Talk about subtle. Now *_that_* is the _"Suspiciously Easy Boss Fight That Wasn’t What It Seemed"!_
As things stand, I'm too lazy to give a list... But we could put pretty much EVERY RPG last boss fight in this list since they're almost all two-stage boss fights
What about Tinker Knight from Shovel Knight? You can either take him out with a mobile gear or just dodge his wrenches until he trips and throws a temper tantrum. But wait, instead of a victory screen and dreams of Shield Knight, the screen scrolls down and there's Tinker Knight, sitting in a gihugic Mech and shooting missiles at you. Have Fun!
XD I was killed by Rennala's students once and then wrecked them and her true form in one try. But it wasn't really a surprise, you are told she is in a bit of a fugue state after she had a stillborn because of the Elden Ring being broken. She isn't actually a carrier of a great rune, a great rune is housed in the thing she is holding.
So, since the premise is basically "Really easy bosses that preceded really tough bosses", then I guess Electrocutioner from Arkham Origins counts, considering the fact that you enter the Penguin's Ship the Final Offer having kicked your first boss literally once before immediately beating him, and left the Final Offer having just fought Deathstroke, one of the toughest bosses in the game, second only to Bane.
Shit, phase 2 of Renalla is still extremely easy lmao 🤷🏻♂️ I spent 15 minutes trying to psyche myself up for the fight like I used to before all fromsoftware bosses(before Elden Ring making me realize that most of the bosses are MUCH MUCH easier in comparison) but then I went in there and absolutely fucking BULLIED her through both phases and beat her first try 😂 I was definitely a little bit disappointed considering she’s one of the demigod main bosses; but it’s whatever. I guess you can’t expect ALL of the bosses to be CRAZY good when there’s an insane amount of them like in ER
Yo, I remember getting to that Sephiroth theme music Seven-Winged Angel and being so hyped, despite never figuring out the words. Hellspawn, syphilis, cinnamon, ham and cheese. Sephiroth! Ammirite?!
Thank God, someone that's finally mentioned the horrendous cover of the TMNT theme song...sounds like a 65 year-old dude trying to sing the song and failing miserably.
The mythical Scylla was unfortunate enough to be in a love triangle with one of the sea gods and the witch Circe, and even for Circe that was a Hell of a nasty reaction.
does the bone hydra from hades count? the first phase (up to where the hydra name actually comes into play) is admittedly very short but it definitely caught me off guard when y'know, heads. and then, just when you get used to the heads, suddenly, *more heads*
renala was only hard for me because everytime I went in I kept getting glitched even after a game reset until finally I joined my friend in his game and then got to be able to fight her properly in my game
There are a lot of those in gaming. FFXIV has a few of those (Vauthry / Innocence is probably one of the most prominent example). I also encounter at least 2 examples in Lunar Nights (fan made spin off Touhou game).
I was hoping to see Envy from Darksiders 3. Yes, it was the first boss, but it was still suspiciously easy considering the power we were told the sins contained. Especially after you start meeting the others and they put up much more if a fight. Turns out it was because that Envy was a fake and the real one was pretending to be your companion the entire game.
What about 7 boss fights where the boss turned out to be someone else or just a video iconic creepy aesthetics because I’m not going to lie the moon from majora’s mask was creepy and even more in the updated version
I also keep going back to dark souls 3 I've beaten that probably 30 or more times mainly because I really like playing that game and it's got some interesting story and lore plus the story actually fits and makes sense and you're not constantly trying to guess what's going on because even after beating it I still don't get what's going on there isn't anything really leading to anything so you just got to pound your head against the wall or chase down the developer and just to find out what's going on
You forgot the Emperor from the original Final Fantasy II. :P Seriously though, it's not the easy boss encounters that give rise to harder bosses that scare me. It's the HARD boss encounters that you find out immediately afterward was just the "easy warmup" for the REALLY HARD boss encounters that terrify me.
When I play a game and lose to a boss, what I normally do is hit reset almost immediately...which is why for the longest time, whenever I played Chrono Trigger, not only did I not even know that I'd only ever played half of the game, but the "hardest ending to get" was the only ending that I'd ever seen! (Note: This was "pre internet" days) I'd only ever found out differently because one day I didn't hit reset quick enough and a whole new part of the game had opened up for me! (And what I'd assumed were "hidden secrets of the game" were all revealed through normal gameplay! 😳😂😹😹)
Rennala was incredibly easy vs strength build. Beat her on my second try. Dodge but dont focus about her summons, keep charging forward, and dodge her cosmic beam. The homing attack she does will never hit since you're too close.
Live A Live, though my example isn't a prelude to a stronger boss. In the medieval stage, after defeating what you think was the final boss, you find yourself squaring off with him again, only this time he's pathetically easy. Beat him, and it's revealed that you've been under a hallucination from the true final boss of the stage, and you've just unknowingly murdered your king, you're public enemy #1, and it's all downhill from here
Was curious if Path of Exile would be here, the game where (obvious spoiler) the boss of the third act sends out a few waves of elite enemies then himself is basically just... one more elite enemy. At least, until you kill him, at which point he turns into a massive demonic abomination and deadly blood rain starts pouring down on the battlefield.
I think it's already in another one of your videos, but there's a very suspiciously easy boss in Metroid Prime 3. I forgot it's actual name, something like "Metroid hive" ... Boss music, boss intro cinematic, a boss room, a boss name ... Clearly a boss. At this point in the playthrough, I had just found a new visor. It allows you to see enemy weaknesses fir massive damage. Since it's brand new, and crazy strong, you try it on everything. So obviously, here as well. The """boss""" dies in like 5 shots. This was my first playthrough, the """boss""" had time to attack me 3 times or fewer, and none had touched me. I was very confused. But it can't make the list, because that's actually the boss fight ! Apparently you can fight it before getting the visor, where you have to pull it's tentacles and kill it's spawns or something ... I still don't know how this happened.
Canonically, Mecha sonic in sonic 3 & knuckles is actually a roboticized version of sonic, not just some metal knockoff of the blue blur (which explains why he's capable of going super upon touching the master emerald)
The tape boss from paper Mario the origami king you move around busting up its dispenser and once you deal enough damage it screams and goes off screen until it comes back as just a roll of tape then it is a lot harder to defeat that time
Anyone else thinking that the Savathun fight from the new Destiny 2 DLC Should've made that list? seriously even your ghost thinks that it was too easy. You then go the entire DLC before the true fight which is a right pain.
what about count bleck getting double crossed by dimentio with a possessed luigi in super paper mario. A little obvious in hind sight but really threw me for a loop as a kid.
I'm late to the party, but F.E.A.R.'s Fettel scene felt almost anticlimactic after all the fighting to get there. Locked in a dreamlike state, all weapons gone except for a pistol.. then killing Fettel was almost nothing at all. Which pisses off Alma. From that point forward, everything goes bad.
