I was playing with my and babysitting my 10 month old granddaughter and suddenly I noticed i didn’t have any pain. I only lasted for a few minutes, but the point is at one point I was so distracted and engaged that my brain wasn’t able to perceive danger !!!

I notice the same when I play with animals. I am getting my puppy on April 18th :) was wanting her for so long but I was scared I wouldn't be able to care for her which was just the fear speaking. I have just signed a new lease for a flat with garden and I paid the deposit for my puppy :) I'm sure she will be a great support for me on this journey!

1 it is not just repressed emotions, also any perceived danger. 2 don’t keep digging in repressed emotion cause just enough to say my brain is perceiving danger. 3 perceived danger, pain or symptoms mean you’re not actually broken 4 don’t have to figure ok it all out. 5 avoid pain is counter productive and does not make safer. 6 did not have to believe my own thinking 7 emoting are not actually dangerous Only uncomfortable.

London under a sky of dark cloud, non stop rain. Found this morning very difficult, stomach in knots etc. lots of lifey stuff. Near to tears with frustration, then I gave myself a talking too. Grabbed lots of clothes/coats, so much brand new but I'm done( I'm struggling trying to clear stuff out, home reflecting the clutter in my head I think 🤔)bagged up 3big bags for charity and even dropped them off. Drove to library /park. Sat in my car, it's my sanctuary. I need a camper van 😂. Listening in everyday warms my heart. Big hugs to my pain free "family"❤️🫂

For me, I wish I knew that all my coping mechanisms( pleasing,pushing through, repressing emotions, keeping quite, saying yes when I felt NO, were just survival tools and not really ME! Those mechanisms / patterns depleted and dis aligned myself completely from who I really AM. and want to be. Just acknowledging that gives a big release mentally, emotionally and physically ❤

I wonder if being single after a long term relationship and feeling lonely create perceived danger, but seeing this video I think I know the answer. My brain is telling me that being alone all day and not having a spouse is dangerous for me.

Initially I thought it was about repressed emotions but as I started on this journey I believe it is about patterns. We develop habits or patterns of behavior and the brain learns this and reacts a certain way. I found when I was able to break these patterns or behaviors was when I achieved success. When you are doing well and some of those “symptoms” resurface it is so much easier to recognize and ignore knowing they will pass.

It’s so funny Dan! I discovered you before Dr Sarno in aug 2021! I broke my ankle and had to rest for a week from my doctor. I was SOO bored, and my daughter phoned me and said: mum, do you have you tube? You can find al kind of lovely videos on it! So I installed it and typing chronic pain, I found a video of a grey guy named Dan with a white paper in his hand explaining the pain - loop! That was my first eye- opening moment and learning about Tms/ pdp. Since then I started to be happy and hopeful again! Just wanted to share that❤

My pain is mechanical. Crying is a good release and swearing. Im a truth teller and dont hold much back. Anger is a wasted emotion but not when you talk to yourself about the pain being an ass. Distraction is good but you cant exhaust yourself by doing all the time. I know I need an operation to help reduce the mechanical trigger. Taking care of yourself is important.....saying no to people. Authentic self without ego is my journey. No makeup. No trying to impress anyone. Loving and caring about loving and caring people. Telling yourself you are strong to cope with pain. A comfy bed and some good music. My list for today.😊

Thank you for your comment. Many people who previously believed their pain was mechanical were able to learn more, do an assessment and apply the concepts I teach to get well. Assess to see if your pain behaves mechanical or like the brain perceiving emotions is the cause. IsThisTMS.com If so, the fast start playlist explains what to do to turn off the pain. DansFastStart.com Either way, wishing you well.

Thanks Dan! An I right in thinking this be a sneak peak of a chapter from your new book?! Not sure if I got the numbers in the right spot but here’s a summary if anyone wants it!! #1 It’s not just about repressed emotions. The brain can perceive emotions as dangerous, it’s true, but it’s broader than that : anything that the brain perceives as dangerous or stressful can cause pain or other symptoms. Our own thinking, doctor’s appointments, movement, body positions, self judgment and criticism, people pleasing, etc. #2 You don’t have to figure it all out. You don’t have to find a repressed emotion, or an underlying cause / message to your symptoms. If you think you do, you will hunt for the underlying cause every time you have a symptom. #3 It’s enough to realize that your brain is perceiving danger, and to teach your brain that those things don’t actually warrant physical sensations or body pain. There’s no reason they need to cause pain. #4 Trying to fix your pain, even with a mind body approach, is counterproductive, because it convinces the brain that something bad is going on. #5 Same thing with avoiding activities and other avoidance behaviors. It does not make you safer. #6 You don’t have to believe your own thoughts. #7 Emotions are not actually dangerous. They do not warrant the brain creating pain.

Thank you Dan! These insights are so valuable!! I read The Divided Mind four weeks ago and have been using your videos daily to help coach me through the implementation of this 'approach' to chronic pain/symptoms. I have been debilitated and unable to work or have any quality of life outside the home for years, due to many "central sensitivity syndromes". I started enjoying my life on day 1, and within four weeks, I'm completely off medications! Thank you so much for all your time and devotion to others in pain. You're an unsung hero of our age, Dan!

Thank you! I have only just started on the recovery journey (reading sarno's book for only 1 week) but the first 2 things are really going to help me a lot I think. Ironically though I think I did find "the answer" by thinking about perceived danger and what things in my life were perceived as dangerous. I wanted to add that sometimes your brain is right and a situation is dangerous (like a vocally abusive relationship).

My take is that if it provides a benefit, take it until this mindbody work allows you to no longer need the medication. View it as self kindness more than a fix. Stay certain that your body is perfectly find and medication is just being compassionate to yourself.

Hi Dan, What about trapped emotions that are stored in the body from Childhood? That is what some TMS community sucribe to.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 4 месяца назад
I don't believe we have to go dig childhood emotions out from being trapped in the body. How do you do that? How do you know if you've been successful? If you still have pain, does that mean you failed to get the trapped emotions out? Sounds nebulous to me. I believe teaching ourselves and our overprotective brain that we are safe in the present is way better than some theoretical releasing trapped emotions from childhood. Making the brain feel safe now is my approach.

How do I teach my brain that foods and medicines aren't dangerous

It seems that the more information I get about TMS the more confused I get about the rules to follow. I get frustrated, I panic and then the headaches start. I’m fearful that I won’t get the rules right. Is it appropriate to perform breathing exercises and meditation or is this perceived as danger?
@Inge508
@Inge508 4 месяца назад
Maybe try to stop being so much in your analytical mind.. there are no real rules to follow rigidly.Letting go of forcing, fixing, fearing, focusing, on your symptoms is important. You don’t have to fuel the fire with rules, to do things..instead stop resisting and breathing through your symptoms.. they will go away when you least expect it. Wishing you well 🌺

If fear (an emotion) creates the danger signal that turns pain on, then isn’t fear (an emotion) actually dangerous? My logical brain needs to know why this seems to be contradictory 😊

Because with accurate knowledge of the cause of pain, we can dial down the fear and teach the brain we are safe. Further, we can teach the brain that fear is not dangerous so the pain doesn't turn on. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VSmTe8zPXh0.html
