In my experience extension manager is way better then extension because you cen install extensions from the app itself and also it shows which extensions your system supports unlike extension webpage which can save you a lot time. Otherwise great video, you are the best ☺️
Fastestmirror=true is a common mistake, because fastest=/=most reliable, and that's why its false by default. The next sentence in the doc even says that without it order will be generated by the server to provide the best download speeds
@Aditya Wagh I mean, it finds the fastest mirror, but it does not mean its the best. With this setting set to true the only thing that will be taken for measurement is http response, while Fedora's mirror manager will determine the best mirrors based on a set of fallback heuristics
I love the way you have been doing these type of Videos . Explaining what these changes mean and what they do is amazing. You sir a giving the Linux community a great service
About tip #5: The hostname can (and probably should, to minimise any potential errors) be changed on install. It's in the network section of anaconda, in the same menu as WiFi selection.
Thank you very much! I'm a new linux user and this video was incredibly helpful for getting my fedora set up and ready to go! I learned a lot from this tutorial
I got to thank you for these videos, I've recently decided to try out Fedora Linux as my primary Linux distribution on an old laptop and so far so good, I haven't used a Red Hat-inspired Linux since Red Hat 6.2 (which was like 2 decades ago). The only issue I've had coming from Ubuntu was that dnf is missing a feature that apt has, which is auto completion when typing in the name of an app that I want to install.
Just rejoined the Fedora world, dropped out in the 20s and back at 40. Thanks for this and any future video I learn from, you are really good at explaining/teaching. Just subscribed and if I stick with it, I am sure to subscribe. Keep up the great work.
This is perfect as I literally just installed Fedora on my laptop. Had already found the flathub and media codecs part, but I'm still having issues with gsconnect install being straight broken.
Same thing. The codecs that are already installed are conflicting with new ones. Just add --(something about automatically solve). It then automatically removes the old codec packages.
Thanks for the helpful post-install guide. I have used Debian and Ubuntu for years and this is the first time trying Fedora. Overall impression of Fedora is that it is unstable: Discover crashes after activating Flatpak and cannot be started any more. Only uninstalling Flatpak restores Discover functionality. About 20 recurring system crashes within the first hour: kernel-core, fwupd, and others. No backtrace and no solutions found. Overall unusable unless these crashes can be fixed.
Fedora is probably my favorite distro and what I am using currently. Have you looked into the Nobara Project at all? Gaming focused distro that is basically Fedora with a bunch of patches and software preinstalled to increase gaming performance
Fantastic video! I almost gave up on Fedora before finding this video, those few (very small and simple) tips actually prevented me from giving up on it and moving back to Ubuntu. The KDE Spin was very nice, but buggy on my 13 year old HP DV7.
I guess you should have added SELINUX, Selinux troubleshooter (seapplet, sealert) and firewall-config. They're almost mandatory nowadays and I don't understand why they don't come "out of the box". They do on fedora security.
20 years on Linux, Manjaro daily driver currently. I really like Manjaro, but I am second-guessing it due to their management/human issues. Checking out Fedora in a VM and this video has been helpful to hit the ground running. Thanks!
Don't use the fastestmirror option. It is harmful. It tries to connect to the mirror with the lowest Ping but that says nothing about actual bandwidth or package availability. The default without this option is an ordered mirror list sorted by bandwidth and package availability and geolocation, which is generated server-side by Fedora to ensure that you get the latest packages from good mirrors. You get better results without this option.
I have a strange habit of testing distributions; but I end up going back to fedora; and this Mr. TechHut is one of the enthusiasts who inspires me. Fedora to rule them all! Please more videos about Fedora!
Thanks man for sharing very helpful. Trying out Fedora, reading/seeing quite a few good things about, thought I give it a shot. 3:10 cracked me up, brilliant response, hahaha
Great video as always, but i have a question ( irrelevent tbh ), will you cover some of the implications of Nvidia finally open sourcing their drivers ?
Hey thank you man TechHut that was cool that you like to help out people those commands helps too I was following along an using the web site thanks so much only question I have is there a way to speed up boot process on the fedora Linux I have removed my my other operating system an fedora Linux is my main one now ☺️stay positive be strong man your awesome
Every time i install fedora, i come back to this video lol. Super helpful because i always forget the little things that you gotta tweak when you install this stuff.
You can just change your hostname quickly and graphically from the About section in settings as well, just fyi. It's the way I'd recommend to new users at least.
I am using Fedora 37 KDE spin and the codecs install didn’t work for me. Apparently ffmpeg conflicts with some pre-installed packages. Any tips? Edit: it’s fine, I just appended “-skip-broken” to the end and it worked but skipped ffmpeg. My sound was working fine anyway
New to Fedora and Gnome. This video was VERY helpful. A request: Could you put together a video on how to install and configure a Gnome Desktop? I've seen a lot of impressive ones but haven't a clue on how to start ..... many thanks, Al
Hi there. A lot thanks to this tutorial! This really helps! But what occurred to me was that since I got Fedora 36 installed on my 2018 machine, I found that the audio on my local disk has no problem whereas that on my web browser is driving me crazy. I constanly hear the background noise, which was like beep-beep-beep, like high-pitched firecrackers. I searched all over the Internet. Then I found the multi-media codecs in this video. But after I did like you do, this situation is no difference than before. Forgive me for my abruptness and ignorance since I just started studying computer science and I just get to know something about the hardware and the system stuff. I would really appreciate it if you could give me some guidance or directions of where I can find the solution. Thank buddy, keep on going. I love your channel and the way you explain things. That really helps. I wouldn't be in such a abruptness if I were not desperate by my situation.
after I installed fedora, my brightness has stuck on 100% can you please help? I wandered on different forums but no solution has worked for me, please help me out
Fedora was bound to have newer packages in general (especially Gnome, Mesa, LLVMPipe), default Wayland on everything (where appropriate), latest kernel, more GTK4 apps than Ubuntu, Secure Boot support. A better all around base to work with than Ubuntu in general. The community's opinion is that Fedora has been *outstanding* since at least Fedora 33 and F36 only made it better.
Hello bro! I have installed fedora 37 however I have 3 issues. 1- Bluetooth not working. (no bluetoothn adapter). 2- No fingerprint (fingerprintd-enroll: no devices( 3- why I can't make the default GPU Nvidia but the OS is forcing to use Intel UHD graphics as the default GPU? my specs: HP Spectre X360 15 Processor: i7 10 Gen Memory 16 GB DDR4 Storage: 1 TB ssd nvme Graphics: Intel UHD graphics Nvidia GeForce 108M (MX250)
I just installed Fedora to a Partition of a Windows laptop updated it and it's already got all of this built-in .. seems like Fedora has had an update since this
Hi Mate. I have a question. I am trying to run an appimage that works perfectly in Linux Mint for me. I have app image launcher installed on Fedora. When I run it on Fedora I get this error - Failed to register AppImage in system via libappimage. It also doesn't do anything if I run it once. Curious if you had some insight on what might be my issue?
What exactly is meant by "dnf is slow"? I've been using fedora for months, and have zero issues with that. Does it mean slow to install/remove or to use apps installed with dnf?
when I have to press ctrl+o it work but when I press ctrl+x is asking me if I want to safe the modified buffer , It gives me two options Y(yes) orN( No) but if I press Y nothing happens , and in your video after presing ctrl+x and enter that page was shuting down , but to me nothing happens and in the same time from the beginning this error was showing in the botoom [ Error writing /etc/dnf/dnf.conf: No such file or directory ] any Ideas why
Hello there, Have you configured you fedora installation for btrfs snapshot and recovery? It would be really nice to have a video on how to do that, as of now the btrfs with fedora is not used to its fullest capabilities.
Hi i have two questions about fedora 38. -i have to click on activities for showing the menubar. Is there a posbility to show it without didsapearing? When i start my system: i have dualboot: The first boot is fedora instead of windows: can i change this? And there are 3 fedora showing at starting up: can i remove two of them? And only have 1 windows and fedora showing up at dualboot menu? Thnktou
have you managed to get DaVinci Resolve working with Amd GPU on Fedora 36? I have it working on Arch, but want to migrate to Fedora soon and I have some concerns in that regard.
The lack of flatpak support by default is probably the only issue with Fedora I could complain about. Everything that's not in the hands of GNOME or Nvidia is perfect.
Someone help me , I am new to computer and stuff but now I somehow installed fedora 40 and the brightness is 100 percentage . Help me my eyes burning . My slider works by moving but not changing brightness
For the application launcher I want to go one step ahead .... In Voyager Linux all applications are in Groups on top of the screen. So you can easaly choose a group and find the application you want very fast !! My question: Is the same app-launcher possible in Fedora ??
Some body change or improve the the dnfdragona gui ! In fedora cinnamon "dnfdragona gui" doesn't show the lower half of the app ! If i can't see the "accept" button then how am i gonna install the apps ? ( Good knows if this is the situation in rest of fedora DEs . Gnome & kde DEs may be the exception as they have "gnome software" & "plasma discover" app center ) I now do most of the installation & updates on Terminal . Not that hard .commands are somewhat similar . debian & LM experience helps here . Have not removed dnfdragona as it shows "update available" notification. Definitely miss the synaptic package manager . How come the Fedora & Red hat guys can't make a good package manager gui ? They have backing of tons off money & a corporate . Just reverse engineer the " synaptic package manager "
"sudo dnf groupupdate sound-and-video" doesn't actually do anything since all those packages are optional. It's a really weird group too. Some libraries, but seeminly more desktop apps. I recognize a lot of MP3/DVD ripping, CD-burning era stuff you wouldn't want on a computer in 2022 probably with no CD/DVD drive. So it's good they're all optional (run "sudo dnf groupinfo sound-and-video" to list them).
Extremely helpful ! One question: I don't know how to check which version of a software will be installed. So far I only find out after I installed something that it was an older version. Eg. OBS from Flatpak is usually a newer version.
Nice review Brandon! I also stated in my recent video where I recently review Fedora 36 about how Nvidia should be open source and make the things work, with much easiness! P.S: the channel is in this profile, for whom is interested!
hi this is want I want to do sudo dnf install lutris this is the error I get sudo: dnf: command not found Its the same error with chmode I would like to make these two commands to work Im using fedora Could you help me please
Fedora is very good in terms of eveything but i kind of like out of the box use that's why i stay with ubuntu or mint but i unfortunately mind when there is no minimize maximize window and again out of the box is my principle as a user i dont have to tinker with settings after installation
Hello, this extension "Language Support for Java(TM) by Red Hat" is throwing me an error that says that I need to install a Java JDK for fedora, and i've already gotten the latest but it says that i have to configure the path to make it work but even after it did it in the JSON file it didn't work. Ubuntu didn't have problems with that, do you know how to fix that or of someone that has fixed this before?
(1) Can you maybe have a video that explains what the Keys are that you are adding and why? (2) And, possibly, another video to show us how to enter all these commands into a text file, then sudo it and run them all. Is that possible? Anyway, love your videos. This was so very helpful.
My wifi keeps connecting and disconnecting on any Linux , windows works fine , old fedora version don't h v wifi for my device so I install it from GitHub , now comes with pre install that's disconnect problem what will I do... Informative video. Needed 1 help. In Thunderbird on Fedora 38, the .docx (word) attachment doesn't open in libre. I have to save file & then open separately. Very time-wasting option. Any suggestions to solve this "bug/problem" ?
Nice video but do I have a question , if a new release comes liked like for example fedora 37 and I didn’t update to that version when it launches I can’t install apps anymore from the Dnf pack age manager ?
Having an issue with the Media Codecs. When running the commands for the media codecs described in the video it is returning zero plugins and libraries to install. Running Fedora36 on VirtualBox in this case. Any ideas?
Moved from Debian Testing to Fedora recently. Debian Testing is not stable enough these days, also Debian Stable is too old. Fedora seems to be at a decent midway.
Hey, what about getting nvidia to work... My fans are not on at start up. I put the app in right permission but it doesn't save and online there are many config files so I don't know which to turn on fan at startup... Ugh...

How to enable double click to "Minimize" on Fedora???
Thanks for great info. I use Linux desktop as my daily drive for work on several PCs and laptops. The new Fedora looks very nice and is very fast! I did try it out and first impression is very good BUT... there is huge but :) Some must-have aps for me are not working... Viber, Dropbox (no way to use selective sync and no dropbox deamon ?), Black Magic Resolve Davinci, Google Music app, Timeshift backup not available at all... Beside Davinci all apps are quite basic and should work. All of those works flawless, incl. Davinci, on KDE Neon, which is still the best distro I even tried (=most compatible with any hardware, most app compatible, most stable)! I love the looks and feeling of Fedora but it's still an "experiment"...
