So you stay in a AirBnb

I've lived in airbnb's for almost 2 years now. I'm also very much ready to move back into a traditional apartment. One thing that wasn't mentioned here is that when you live in airbnb's you're basically living out of a suitcase. So if you like to collect things you either need to get an expensive storage unit or carry it with you which might not even be an option depending on what you're collecting. I had to leave my golf clubs at my parents house because I was tired of lugging them around everywhere. Problem is that they live out of state so I can't just go get them when I want. There's another problem where sometimes you might need to prove your address which is impossible with an airbnb. You'll have no utility bills in your name ect..

Hi I'm considering relocating for a job and using long term airbnbs. Or hotel or rent. Not sure which options are best.

Im into my 4th month living in long term airnbnb. Im paying x 100$ for master bdrm, own bath, private entrance, private parking, and patio in backyard. It was great in a pinch and dilemma i was in as i could not find a rental townhouse as the other tenant(my friend)had an eviction bout 4 years ago and not great credit. It does have drawbacks however. If you like to cook it can be challenging and not as relaxing as maybe your own place. Laundry is a bit of pain as well. Outside of my room there just isnt any privacy with ppl coming and going all over. But def it can be great alternative to renting as you just pay for your month and thats it. My hosts are great but they have a few properties and seem a bit overwhelmed somwtimes.

Summary and timestamps: the short answer to "should I do it?" is "Yes! (but also plan a bit before getting into long term commitments, which this video will help you out with)" (if you get lost in this comment; just type "Ctrl+F" and search through it. I'd give you Google-level-smarts with the search if I could! :) ) Benefits: 0. It's possible! 0:00 1. Many hosts offer discounts of 40% or more if you're booking monthly: 0:17 2. Cheaper! Utilities and are included. 0:35 2a. Freedom: 0:45 2a1. Fully stocked: 0:51 2a2. Hosts are more gracious and nice than landlords; the hosts have financial interest in keeping you happy : 1:06 2b. AirBnB support: 1:20 2b1. Protection and mediation from AirBnB : 1:25 2b2. Cancellation (her experience was with multi-month stays and 30 days notice; the 30 days notice is much nicer than a landlord's policy would be): 1:29 3. Novelty and variety: 1:40 10. She likes the variety, exploring new places : 5:05 Drawbacks: 1:53 4. No stable address, some hosts don't let you get mail delivered to your home, etc. Solution: get a local PO Box! 2:00 5. Cost fluctuations: 2:35 6. Can have to move around a lot: 3:14 7. Lack of stability : 3:20 8. Loss of control over your living space, furniture, etc. : 3:45 9. High fees, sometimes higher than the actual nightly rate(s): 4:03 . Solution: How she calculates the rate best: actually typing / tapping in all the details and calculating the **real** nightly rate by dividing by the number of nights you are staying (4:33) Another benefit she mentioned towards the end: 10. She likes the variety, exploring new places : 5:05 Other benefits: 11. No roommates! Those of you who have roommates know how many problems and even sometimes major conflicts arise from that roommate you just don't jive with 12. Cheaper than living in hotels! I have seen so many hotels that are overpriced because of things I just don't need, at least not most days; as a permanent tenant, I'm really not looking for a pool or an expensive gym full of equipment I don't use, or to be downtown in an expensive city 13. Keeps your brain active! There are scientific studies showing how quickly your brain adapts to situations, and how this habitual mechanism saves you energy but also puts your brain in a state where it is less creative and less alert
