Yes, I felt like I lost my Uncle. Why is it when we get back on track when Life seems to suddenly end? I did watch Camp Candy, Vacation, Home Alone, and Great Outdoors. In 2018 I sunddely started watching Uncle Buck. I guess I never understood it until I had four kids. I’ve seen it over 20 times this year. Very poetic.

That was the reason I bought a video of the movie for my brother after watching it the first time. My brother was driving my mother and myself around Eugene Oregon showing us around. A hippy on a bike came along toward us yelling. We got closer and heard him yelling, "You're going the wrong way !!!" Then my brother says, " Uh oh, we're going the wrong way on a oneway street." Then on the way out of Eugene, my mom got lost and couldn't figure out how to get on the freeway. I spotted a cop at a service station that was giving someone a ticket. When he was done he told us to follow him on his motorcycle. Also when we were there my brother drove us on this washboard road that made it feel like his pickup was going to fall apart. He wanted to show us where he thought he lost his springer spaniel one day. The poor dog Buddy was in the pickup with us. When we got back to his apartment poor Buddy had an attack of diarrhea on the lawn out front from some stuff my brother had fed him before. I'm surprised Buddy didn't have an accident in the truck.

This was my favorite john candy movie, because he came out of character for a moment right after Neal told him to have a point. He was just John Candy for a moment. It was something to see. BTW, Hughes' script had a lot more stuff involving Neal's wife, who suspected he was having an affair. It was good, funny stuff that also "explains" the ending better (she's so emotional because she's relieved that Neal was telling her the truth). I'd love to see the 2hr cut with this subplot added back in, but I understand why they cut it out. The heart of the movie is the friendship between Neal and Del, and that's where you want the focus to be.

The see-saw dialogue was based on true events. As was the fate of the dog, tied to the bumper. And Aunt Edna's fate....also based on a true event. Wally World? You guessed it, based on an actual theme park and beloved icon. Wally World? Not the actual name of the theme park used in the film. Roll em up! Roll em up! Based on a very good idea if one was in a similar situation. 7 I know you wanted Christmas Vacation, but it's just not as good. Although I love it.

John Hughes & the 80s sure pumped out some classic, memorable, awesome movies. John Candy was and still is, one of my favorite actors ... this movie, Uncle Buck and the rest of the classics. He was a great soul and a gentle giant ♡🌠✌

Man, a couple of years ago, our local library in a small German village with 3000 inhabitants sold their old video tapes which were being replaced with DVDs, and I picked up Planes, Trains and Automobiles (or, "Ein Ticket für zwei", so "A ticket for two" as it's called in German) for 50 cents. I had never heard of it before, I just liked the cover and went for it. I've easily watched it 10 - 15 times since then, and it still is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Me too. It’s really quite something. I remember exactly where I was when I found out he died. He made a real impact did John. People really loved him. All those comedians from that era were class. Pryor, Wilder, Aykroyd, Murray, Ramis, levy, Martin and of course Candy. Today’s comedians come actors are poor in comparison.

Another thing they don’t mention in here. It’s an Easter egg. The Green Rental car used in the movie (a 1983 Chrysler LeBaron Town and Country Woody Convertible) is a reference to another film John Hugh’s worked on, Vacation. Which the car they drove was a Green Woody Station Wagon

@ad I grew up three hours from where hughes did. It's not over the top. It's a frustration that pours out of you in a majorly sardonic way. I've done it. Are you saying you haven't been so frustratingly mad in a conversation that you realeased all the steam in one go? It's a conversation stopper. It fits this scene. It was also refreshing to see. Her comeback was great, as well.
