For me personally hanon has wrecked absolute hell on my forearm and wrist. I get super tense when doing technical excersises like that, so I've started using burgmuller op. 100 and Bach's notebook for Anna Magdalena to warm up instead.

hey nahre, i gotta say, you've been so helpful for me as a composer. I'm a beginner with my instruments so i haven't personally played a lot. but you did all the work for me with your composer videos, so now i could get whats in my head on to paper, and i can get better ideas in the first place in my head. so thank you so much :)

This timing is impeccable as I just in the last few days hit a wall with my playing after experiencing pain in my forearm from playing too fast. I'm now starting to go back and practice very slowly with a focus on efficiency and relaxation. Have been playing for 10+ years but not until recently have focused on this stuff. Practicing slowly is the key IMO.

That chromatic speed is insane! Does that fingering become limiting though? I learned years ago to use 1-3 for white to black and then 1-2-3 when hitting white-white-black, has a nice fluidity to it. Also have you ever listened to Jordan Rudess? Would be interested to hear your take on his work.
@Ronno4691
@Ronno4691 4 года назад
I recently watched the video of Jordan Rudess in the Tokyo music shop quarter and he was doing lightning fast runs without any 'thumb under' and I was transfixed! This here video is the only one that makes such techniques accessible and I've been SEARCHING RU-vid for MONTHS for this kind of info as piano teachers just aren't interested in teaching adults!
@composing4piano

This is such a helpful video, thank you so much! At around 4:14 you should the isolated voicing exercise, and I tried to to something similar in the past with 5 fingers but just C-D-E-F-G, but it sounded really boring and annoying, but your version of this exercise sounds really calming, which is pretty motivating to keep playing it. Did you considered writing a whole piece using this exercise idea? It could be almost like a short concert etude piece that's not only useful for developing technique but also sounds really nice as a normal concert piece.
