Do people even like what they buy if they stop wearing shit because it's not popular anymore? People need to buy what they like instead of being caught up in the hype. There's a reason why the 3 piece suit will never go out of style
Excellent and beautifully put. My sentiments exactly. Wear what u like buy what u like. Dnt b sheep and try to keep up with the agendas and hype the masses push
Like fr, staying on the fashion side of social media makes me feel so left behind! I still will be enjoying my sambas and chunky accessories this summer but social media considers them as out of trend u cannot buy it anymore-stuff
Also, i think a big reason the sneaker bubble popped is just that people got sick of resellers. Bots buying out every drop and being forced to pay a premium on resale ruined sneaker culture.
The resellers were definitely part of the problem! But I think the bigger issue was that sneaker culture became way too trendy. Social media made it ubiquitous and everyone everywhere was willing to pay the premium just to look "cool". It took the edge off and became boring, in my opinion.
@@Xxyyzz123 if you know anything about Karl Lagerfeld, you’d know he got off on being an elitist snob. He was well known to be a body-shaming, misogynistic prick. He is a legend , no doubt. But it must have been nice to live in his bubble of privilege - esp with ppl like you coming to his defense 🙂
New Balance 99-series is timeless, it has stood the test of time. Whether your style is Ivy or Outdoor, New Balance will always be appropriate in almost any style, especially after the 2020 pandemic.
I'll always Only really go for the grey, Tan, navy or olive NB classics. A few interesting colorways make the cut. But the current stuff they do with JFG and Bembury and shout out my black designers sadly isnt for me. The Bronson collab NB? Not for me. And Baklava is a friend of mine. For NB.... I was always cool with them not having to do what everyone does. Now they are too similar in their colorways to everything else now so I don't geek about em. They will go back to classics soon. Don't fret
Also, when it comes to quality, NB is sh!tting on BOTH Adidas and Nike and pretty much every other sneaker brand. Their only real competition might be Asics.
@@pastense whoa whoa whoa... lol. NB isn't crapping on anyone anymore when it comes to quality. Those days are gone sadly. Which no shade I still love them... Diadora... Saucony... some of the heritage brooks stuff if it comes back for yall... Adidas makes quality stuff. It's Nike and Reebok who are Dubious. And again my uploads don't lie... I love em all. I forgot my favorite. Certain Kswiss models are also MUCH better in quality of material used and packaging than most harder to obtain Nike kicks. Example the packaging on the Futura Sb Dunk... lame.
These "gropcore" people should realize that proper technical outerwear is actually something that lasts you a lifetime and you dont need 10 different shelljackets. Positive outcome of gorpcore is that people actually went outside to wear them on hikes etc
In my experience, technical outerwear isn't actually made to last. I've come across some weirdest care labels, including Do Not Wash, Don't Expose to Direct sunlight etc
Yeah literally I still think the arcy is the best looking shell on the market, and it's super useful because, even if you don't hike, sometimes it rains. I say this without even owning it. Gorpcore still looks good to me.
I live in Seattle and "technical outerwear" that isn't ugly is a new thing. We BADLY needed this!! P.S. you aren't supposed to wash it because you'll mess up the rainproof coating. Rinse only, ya'll
Localized trends on a significant scale do not exist anymore due to the homogenization of culture may possible through social media. Anything deemed interesting enough to be a “local“ trend is quickly spread through virality, and thus made available to anyone who sees it. We truly live in an era where nothing is particularly unique anymore.
Honestly I feel all of these are still alive, especially New Balances. Crazy popular still and hyped, but it’s decentralized in terms of models. As well as sneaker culture as a whole, just as you said with shell jackets, I think people that really are into the stuff are thriving and people who weren’t only hopping on because of popularity have moved on. Feels more natural.
Fr he said adidas sambas are king when that trend died for a solid minute now and NBs are still around, I agree that it's past the peak NB popularity but we're far from it being dead
16-29 year olds on social media don’t define what “trend” is. We each individually define trend. What you run with daily is your trend. Your closet can be filled with things that publicly trended at one time or another. Wearing clothes is like listening to music. The closet is the playlist. We go back to old songs whenever we feel nostalgic. And sometimes we wear things that are current. But young people don’t define what is “cool”. They, of all people, have the least wisdom on this earth. Fashion is both an aesthetic and a functionality.
I'm not so sure about New Balance dying off. I would say if anything it's gotten more popular than ever. Maybe this is not the best metric to measure this by, but when I joined the New Balance Subreddit at the end of 2022 it had about 30k members, now in 2024 it's pushing almost 300k. Collabs and GRs alike sell out instantly these days.
Yeah fr, gorpcore, or the general gist of incorporating high-quality outerwear into your everyday wear isn’t something that will ever die. As long as people enjoy hiking, mountain climbing and other outdoor activities, there will be “gorpcore”
Personaly I was never a part of gorpcore. Still I am actually sad about the trend dying because I thought it resembled a development of the zeitgeist towards more appreciation for longevity, good quality and therefore sustainability
idk most of the items in that trend involve a lot of plastics and materials that are extremely difficult to compost or recycle. I feel like the hiker who buys one north face jacket to wear for their entire adult life is sustainable, but the city person buying large number of nylon and polyester items isn't focused on sustainability
As much as I love technical fabrics, it is a big detriment how they're made of forever chemicals that will outlast humanity to decompose. "Gorpcore" or better said, the whole technical fabric industry is one of the most impactful towards climate change in a negative way.
@@newcityboiii I work at Footlocker and when the 550s and New balance were really trending they would sell out. Now when I work no one even bothers looking at new balances. So yes new balances are dead, especially with the rise of Asics and people tend to gravitate toward new things to follow the trend. No hate to the brand, still think if you like new balances go a head and buy it but its just how things are at the moment.
I always felt that those who are fly or have a good eye for fashion dnt follow trends. Style is suppose to display your personality. that’s what makes you fly in my eyes. If you follow trends of the masses what does that make you ? A sheep ? Wear what u like, buy what u like. Don’t follow agendas and trends of others. Rather stick out then blend in when it comes to style.
Justin Bieber has a good example of this even though people love to hate on him, baggy and comfortable streetwear is always in style and he mixes it up with unique pieces.
These social media "fashion experts" would have everyone dressing like some GQ dickhead, fucking t shirt tucked into chinos and loafers without socks just to head down the shop for a pint of milk. Lot of fucking nonsense.
First time I've herd "Adidas has the crown right now". I guess it's just my personal taste, but I never found adidas as exciting as their competitors. The gazelle and the samba is part of what I like to call the "timeless" model/silhouette. Versitile, cheap, and readily available shoes that anyone can wear. Every brand has their timeless shoe, Nike- AJ1s, AFs, and Maxs. Adidas - Gazelle, Samba, Stan Smith. NB - 1906s, 1991s, 2002s, + R ver.
Adidas doesn’t have the crown they fu**ed up letting Kanye go they’ll never have a movement like that again nobody ever lined up for an adidas sneaker now do they have classic sneakers yes but not enough to be considered long and consistent competition for the other brands when ye was there Nike felt the sting now it’s all over
I'm really happy that Jordans are not treated like a gold rush for greasy resellers anymore. Now people that genuinely like them can get them. I expected Jordan 11 Space Jam lows to be impossible to get, but they are going for almost retail in resell sites, I'm thinking of getting a pair or waiting for the Jordan 11 Columbia.
NB will never die bro dead ass they have drip and subtle drip also some out there color waves and some amazing collaborations im slightly biased because I only own NB shoes lmao but they’re amazing! I think they’re not afraid to experiment which is what the show culture needs
New balance shoes right now may not be as trendy as Adidas samba or Gezelle but they are still trendy Shoes like 1906r,9060 and the most recent 1000 as still popular
tbh we just haven't had as many cool sneakers bangers like we used to. If you compare year by year - the game changing designs/designers are scarce these days
Still loving the MIUSA + UK New Balance releases. The 990v6 is a really comfortable daily driver too. As for gorpcore, it’s been interesting lately see some environmentally friendly brands and designers moving towards DWR coatings that aren’t bad for the environment like GORETEX apparently is. I think sustainability-minded gorpcore is the next wave, personally. Stuff like how Parley back in the day was big on reclaimed ocean plastic being recycled for those Ultraboosts but on a wider scale.
I think NBs dying is a hot take. I still get compliments with my Stray Rats 580s which came out two years ago. Even walking around Tokyo of all places, I still got looks! Maybe a specific trend within (the dad-shoes perhaps?) is dying. But the brand itself will always be a timeless staple in my wardrobe.
I feel like with regards to gorp core, a lot of people still keep the pieces but they're being styled more casually or they're only breaking them out when the weather calls for it. Some people just replaced the rain jackets with faded leather jackets altogether.
In a GenXer. I graduated from Air Force 1s in 1982; New Balance in 1991 (I actually used them to run in); and Sambas in the early 2000s. Today, I wear Jack Purcells and Allen Edmonds suede sneakers homage to low cut Chuck Taylors. Yeah, I’m your Daddy! 😊
Personally, as an amateur dancer, I love parachute pants and other type of baloon fit loose thin material trousers because they're just really comfortable. And good looking in my opinion. Although, the trend died like year ago? Or even more. The only thing i see kids and peers rocking is baggy jeans, literally nothing else. Everybody wears just washed baggy jeans. Where are those tech-y, cargo parachute baloon pants? WHERE DID THEY GO
i love consuming fashion insight from someone who knows what they're talking about, because it helps me forecast my wardrobe so i can stock up on things i like that may disappear. I'm in my 30s, i have never been on trend - except accidentally. also, thanks for referencing to your post-sneaker video - I'll give it a watch.
Adidas samba was the most popular shoe for 2023 but new balance had the highest sales in 2023. Those 9060s are comfy but I like the relax comfy feel of the 998( just a personal favorite) Good video!!
I am happy I got an Arcy in like 2021 or so. I do not wear it as my holy grail anymore as I did back then. I just use it for when it rains dogs and cats and when I am too lazy to throw on a fit. The design is great and the functionality is top tier. This made me realize how important quality in combination with design is to me. Arcy is my go to brand for anything outdoors related now.
Great to hear you ended having a positive outcome outta the trend. I bet that a lot of people did not go that way and instead rarely if ever use their shells, which are made to be used outdoors.
I lowkey feel like trends kinda died off in this generation with everything being so saturated. Like what’s is popular anymore? I think the next trend will be everyone doing their own thing & I like it
I dont pay attention to trends, i wear what i want. The pic of the New Balance brought me in though as i love all my NB nseakers, and always will thanks very much, couldnt care less if theyre "dead" according to whoever. x
I still wear gorpcore when it rains or snow, or when going out hiking. I never hopped on the arcteryx hype though. I've been rocking ACG since the Nike Lab days.
@@theetruth4267 facts, they need to make more shit like NB 530 SL, their collaboration with miu miu is probably one of the best collaborations i've seen in the recent years.
I've been a big NB fan since 2013 and I am so happy the hype fell off. Being able to buy multiple made in USA pairs at the outlets for 40% off feels unreal. Even back then you'd be lucky to find that. Good content.
if you don’t mind me asking, where did you get that varsity jacket you are wearing in the video?? I saw it ages ago on instagram but lost the brand 🥺🥺🥺
I think new balances are still very trendy. Sambas are more seen now because of how much they cost. But NB are still doing very well. As far as sneaker culture goes it’s harder to be a reseller nowadays with most Jordan’s being 220+. People barley want to pay that. A lot of people classify it as Nike killing resellers but really they are killing the consumer also. Those shoes cost way too much nowadays
The underwear as pants seems to have evolved into the micro shorts trend. Boxer shorts, worn both as shorts, and seen peeking out at the top of a pair of loose pants, has also become more trendy, though I haven’t seen that one in real life yet, just online.
What a great video! Although, I must say that the underwear as an everyday garment isn’t necessarily a new one because 70 odd years ago, the feelings we have about people wearing underwear as outerwear was a common feeling when people wore t-shirts as everyday garments. It’s crazy how our definitions of underwear change enough that eventually they are no longer taboo.
I just wanna say, Gorpcore is definitely relavant for different audience now. Corporate NYC workers. I think of it as the modern suit. As one myself I see others like me wearing Patagonia, Arcteryx and the like. My personal reasoning is that it is the perfect commuter clothing because if I’m on the train or whatever a Arcteryx Delta or Patagonia Better Sweater will keep me warm enough but not enough to sweat. If you’ve taken NJ Transit or the Subway you would know what I meant. One minute it feels cold as hell, then the next it feels like a rainforest. God forbid there’s some rain and I forget my umbrella, the delta will keep me somewhat covered. So IMO there’s a definite use case for Gorpcore in cityscapes, and I get it.
to be pedantic: the rain shell is water-shedding, not water wicking. Also, it came as a surprise to me that there was a NB trend. NB sneakers have been the go-to shoe for engineer nerds like me for at least a decade. But Adidas, including Sambas, will always be cool. I had a black pair of Sambas w/ the gum sole in the late 90s, and they were cool before that. I guess it always comes back around.
Comfortable shoes with good support last longer and are better for your joints and back. Comfort is the new trend, and New Balances simply look better.
The AirPod max customizing is still here. I think most people will customize their AirPods until a few months after ownership. Headphones has been a fashion accessory for along time. Remember when beats headphones were fashionable?
I don’t think gropcore is dead. I don’t think many people actually wore it in the first place but it was talked about a lot cause it was different and looked cool. I think people just talk about it less but pretty much the same amount of people still wear it.
Grew up not being able to afford Nike/Jordan etc so always gravitated towards NBs. Then they become super popular as I got older and I couldn't justify the pricing. So glad they're becoming niche again and I can finally wear my favorite sneakers
For the past week I've seen more and more young people started wearing Black Adidas Superstar outside. It's ironic that just last year ago I came across tiktok video of Z-gens making fun of this shoes and calling it lame, ugly and boring millennial shoes. And now they are wearing it because of Adidas Samba and Gazelle hype. Fashion comes in full circle
