My 2-cents....for raising say $50k to $375k or so...seek 1) angels (sophisticated investors/advisors/next round); 2) vendors/suppliers (investors, discounting/terms, partnerships/in-kind); and 3) pre-order (customers, crowdfunding investors etc). or any combination therof. Keep biz plan short/direct/simple w/financials and financial assumptions to 3 years out (projections always change w/reality); define use of proceeds; moat (competitive advantage); and track record/credibility; exit plan/investor return (annual and exit).

Angel investors if you do your research on them and their strengths could be really helpful. Will help you learn the ropes and start a second business later with all that knowledge. With customers giving them exclusive products or discounts for the pre-order could help cashflow (saves you from borrowing). With suppliers having that meeting of what your business plan is can help you get that discount at the start and help them gain a long term customer. One of my suppliers is willing here and I'm happy to be with them long term for their help.

I highly disagree with your comment on banks not setting beginners up with success. It is highly relatable with who your advisor is. Who will give an individual advice and set them up for their goals.
