Ahh yes, best afk farm for the internet inclined. That is, after bsb anyway, before bsb I say those two werewolves that get stuck on the doorframe, relentlessly farmed those
When my Soulsborne nerd friend told me about the "climax" dungeon, I ground my way up to level 300 over the course of the game, doing one full stack of Bold Hunter's Marks before each major boss. Still can't kill Orphan with max Vitality and weapon strength, he's just too fast. 🥲 The irony that I'm constantly pounding away at those Echoes but denied "release" by that placenta-slinging toad.
The belly flopping explodie mummy boys in DS2. Basic as basic can be and relatively early game when they first show up, yet they often trip me up and then you are almost certain to get hit again just as you get up.
Despite having seen it a good few times in videos, the feeling that first time you use it yourself to farm all those albinaurics is spine-tinglingly good
Reminds me of one spot in Eldin Ring that I farmed for a bit in the early game where I got 4-5 giants to fight each other to the death since they tend to whack each other more than you in a crowd. It wasn't the fastest method comparatively, but it sure was amusing.
The vulgar Militia outside of bestial sanctum are also not a bad early farm if your weapon has a few levels on it, they’re easy enough to backstab and give like 1k souls each and there’s a grace at the top and bottom of the spot so you can go up and down between the graces And this is somewhere you can go basically immediately the moment you get torrent because of the teleporter out behind the church of marika Heck it’s the farm I use until I’m past godrick
The rats in the depths in DS1 for humanity, similarly the humanity sprites in the abyss of the dlc for humanity also. The rotten in sotfs, absurdly easy farm - bonfire is right outside his room, and he drops two boss souls each time. He is the simplest way to break the 1mil soul memory required to access drangleic castle early and as such is often used and abused when making builds which want late game items early :).
In Elden Ring I farmed the Broken Statues in the Deeproot Depths by the Site of Grace outside the Lichdragons area. About 10000 Runes in 30 seconds, with Torrents help.
I remember farming the Souvenirs of Reprisal from those Crow Demons in the Painted world in order to rank up my reputation with Gwyndolin without having to actually do PVP.
Another one to farm is... Rats, in Dark Souls, in the Depths. Not only because they give souls (in fact, they give very few), but because they drop Humanity too! Also, speaking of Mibu Village: The villagers also respawn endlessly. ANd if they get overwhelming, just do a Bloodmist execution, use the confusion to whirlwind slash them, gain back all the Spirit Emblem it takes, and you can get a LOT of gold, XP and other little knick knacks without having to ever returning to the idol.
I love Jerry! Farmed him so much back in Ds3. Though he does occasionally get his pal Havel to sub in for him, who is…significantly less chill but still farmable!
Silver Knight loop in Dark Souls 1 and Remastered. Once you open the shortcut and know the parry timing you can basically do the loop endlessly, oneshotting them the viscerals. Also it’s right next to the Giant Blacksmith so it’s perfect to max out gear
In Dark Souls 3 there was a spot that had these 3 fat angel knights that would fly down. If you ran into the building they spawned outside of fast enough they wouldn't see you and one just hangs out by the door. Then just use the Rapport spell that charms enemies and they would kill each other.
here it is, as a pyromancer myself i got to ng+ 5 farming these guys relentlessly and with bed of chaos, red tearstone ring, report and a elemental dagger farm these guys became a piece of cake. honestly my favorite place to farm since they are so wild and dangerous that you could still die if a series of unfortunate events took place.
This spot isn't super close to the Bonfire though since the elevator actually takes a while to reach the top or bottom. Besides, you'd have to kill any remaining Ascended Winged Knights (yes that's what they're called) that survived after they've killed their rapported friend. And they're by no means easy to kill, even on their own. An easier farm spot would be the one near the door to the Abyss Watchers. A couple of Darkwraiths spawn in to pick a fight with a bunch of Ghrus. You don't even need to lift a finger for this one, just sit back and watch as they absolutely go to town on each other. Best part is that there's a bonfire not even 3 seconds away.
The giant pigs in Bloodborne. Just in general. While not typically close to a bonfire, they're one of the few enemies that directly drops blood vials, and multiples at that. I typically used them whenever I needed to farm, since by the time I got the echoes I needed, I was well stocked on healing items too!
Honestly in my first playthrough of Dark Souls 2 (I got hooked on Elden Ring and played almost all the games in the same year after) I basically farmed every map until enemies stopped respawning, lol
A good farming spot in Elden Ring is near the elevator to Mogh's boss room. There are a bunch of red alburnacs that can be killed for a good number of runes. Even better is there's a site of grace nearby to repeat the process as many times as needed.
Dark wraiths in DS1, only enemies that had a chance to drop normal titanite slabs, so you'd make it a point to farm all the slabs you need before heading into NG+
Sort of related: Sneaking in circles next to the first sleeping Draugr you find in any Skyrim crypt while popping on a podcast (say, Mom Can't Cook, the ultimate DCOM pod!) for that sweet sweet stealth levelling
I remember there being a good farming route in Sekiro in the late game before you got to the giant koi. It gave a solid amount of exp for going around and killing a few enemies rapidly then going back to a nearby rest point. I think it was a little trickier than the one listed here, but it was quicker overall and felt more active.
I'd say my favorite in DS3 is the basement in Irhythl of the Boreal valley with all the creepy-crawlies. Spent way more time down there than I care to admit. And it's just a quick run (through water, which doesn't consume stamina in DS3) to get to the Distant Manor bonfire.
I remember farming in DS3 in a perfectly cheesy way. The Darkwraith in the High Wall of Lothric can be encountered fairly early and can be a tough fight. Then you remember you have an elevator on your side, and with a little bit of timing you can make the Darkwraith fall into the infinite void that is an elevator shaft, all the while you are already returning to the bonfire to start this all over again. Best part: the Darkwraith can drop the entire Dark set, including the Dark Sword, which was wicked before a patch, and still pretty good afterward.
I found the Pisacas, in the Dukes Archives, to be quite lucrative. They were a fairly easy enemy to defeat and the whole prison area worked well for farming souls
i think the ascended winged knight trio in the grand archives in dark souls 3 belong on this list. They aren't very hard to kill and drop around 20k souls without the silver serpent ring
Good early game farming spot in Dark Souls 1 is the bridge with the Wyvern on it. Once you've unlocked the route down to the bonfire below, you can just pop your head up onto the bridge for a second and let the wyvern do the actual work of killing the enemies for you.
Greyoll mother of dragons should be on a list of saddest enemies to kill in general, she just lays there and let's you stab her rump while her children stand around unable to do anything because you're out of their range, then when she dies she kills all her children in the immediate area with a final roar. That payout though.
Although it's only really early game, unless you've got time to burn ( heh). I did a lot of farming on the bridge with the large fire breathing drake in dark souls. I don't even have to kill anything. Just pop up the stairs to set off the fire breath and pop back down low enough to avoid burning your scalp and pop back down to the nearest bon fire and repeat. It's a bit tedious but if all I have to do is run back and forth and play peekaboo with a dragon then why not.
Exploited the hell out of all of those near the end XD Word of Warning though: For the last one, the Summoner will randomly Summon the Knight Havel if you haven't killed him further into that level. Really screws up your run...
One of my favorite spots in III was right outside of the Church of Yorshka and just drop attacking the Stake Witch with a Symbol of Avarice and the Serpent Ring, I remember some good loot too
I think you may have missed the dragon in dragon barrow. Granted you need to cheese the AI to allow you to cause it to respawn. The vulgar militia men are a decent early to mid rune farm as well.
There’s a particular sorcerer just beyond the sealed gate in Darkroot Garden in DS1 that I usually spend a few hours grinding each play through. The gate itself is expensive to open at 20,000 souls, but with the “hidden” bonfire on one side, and a cliff on the other that’s easy enough to trick the sorcerer into falling off to net 2,000 souls a pop, you can easily get your money’s worth and more.
I was farming the spinning top guys in Senpo temple in Sekiro. It's 1 sec for the statue, you can bloodmist the 1st one and kill the 2nd. They drop paper talismans so no talis spend and they sometimes drop huge money bags. Great farm overall,
Not souls, but in the early days of City of Heroes, not even sure it got out of beta-test, summoning enemies would summon infinitely and their summons gave xp... back in beta, my main character was a human-plant hybrid I was calling Blood Rose.... so I had a tendency to say "Feed me, Seymour" whenever I met a summoning enemy. And have continued referring to summoning enemies in games as "Seymour" ever since... even if they don't grant you infinite XP like those did.
Bloodborne has Pigs VS Ninjas in one of the last areas of the game, Mergo's Loft Upper. Giant pigs can be kited a very short distance to come into conflict with patrolling "Shadows of Yharnam" enemies, which look vaguely like ninjas on account of their long katanas and black clothing. (kind of like if ninjas were also creepy cultists) Anyway, the pigs and ninjas kill each other, and you sweep up the remains for BIG xp gains! It's even kinda fun to guess who will win each encounter, which helps with the monotony of grinding.
My favourite spot to farm in Elden Ring is right outside the boss area for Mohg, Lord of Blood. There is a convenient bonfire and a group of enemies mid ritual you can tempt away to kill easily and earn plenty of souls. Getting the extra xp items made it even better.
i can't help but think of a silly video by "the spiffing Brit", where he farmed the heck out of one of those giant metal ball enemies. he just ran past it, making it roll off a cliff, ran back to the Grace, and repeated that. he then sneaked around, got the Comet of Azur spell, and the "physic tear" (i think that's what it's called) that give you unlimited magic for a few seconds, then used them to kill the Bridge Dragon. (BUT, he had to also find and upgrade a staff to make it do enough damage)
I farm the Vulgar Militia outside the Beastial Sanctum a lot. They are great practice for sneaking up on a slowly moving target to Critical Head. Bonus is that the crit animation on them makes your character look bigger than normal.
OMG I did not know about Giant Lord in DS2. I have been farming Alonne Knights at Iron Keep's Ironhearth Hall, and use the Company of Champions covenant to have them respawn infinitely, but tougher. Thank you for this.
The Old Knights from DS2 located in Heide’s Tower of Flame. The big lumbering foes are found early, drop a lot of souls (for their place in the game), and are easily exploited off of ledges.
The villagers in the same area as the Ministry Ninja were also victims of farming in my time with Sekiro. Given how much of a pain Ishin, Sword Saint was, I needed a way to farm back my energy that let me come back to life when I died, and killing the rapidly, and almost infinitely, spawning crazed villagers was a good way to do so.
In Dark Souls 3, in Archdragon Peak there is a summoner who can summon either Ricard or Havel (Havel stops spawning after killing him on the roof iirc) and they each drop a lot of souls. With soul boosting gear on you just run from The Great Belfry bonfire back to the summoner, let her summon (kill her towards the end of the animation to save some time), kill Ricard, and then return to bonfire. Was a super fast and easy way to get souls endgame!
Some additional ones: Man-Eater Shells (Clams) in Dark Souls - Before Patch 1.05 (I think), Twinkling Titanite couldn't be bought infinitely and had to be farmed from these. Giant Leeches in Dark Souls - Drop Large Titanite and 5x Green Titanite, which each can then be given to Frampt to make 5x Titanite Shards. Yay for upgrades. Silver Knights and Carthus Skeletons in Dark Souls 3 - More than capable of defending themselves, but I had to spend like 40 hours killing them for the covenant materials. War-Dead Catacombs in Elden Ring - The two spirit factions would just kill each other over and over without you touching the controller, though it's trickier now.
I lured some enemies into a pit over and over in the first dark souls. It was a forest area where you could talk to a cat and there were also some strong enemies. The entrance of said area was a stairway and there was a small walkway that ended in a wall. When you lured the enemies to the entrance and kept running into the wall, they tried to reach you by running up the stairs and jumping down on the walkway but would miss it and fall into the pit. Think it was three or four enemies and you got about 20.000 souls and the next bonfire was just up the stairs.
Let's not forget the decaying dragon in Elden Ring, god rest his soul... Oh and the ball that spawns next to Lennes Rise, it spawns behind you, you move, it flies off a cliff and leaves 2000 runes. A godsend early game!
The best Sekiro farm for leveling skills is late game after the final boss fight becomes available. If you go back to the idol by the Ogre fight at the beginning of the game (trying to be spoiler free) there are red samurai all over the place facing away from you. Each one is like 1250 xp and you can get around 10 of them before you have to reset. And they drop gold and items which is nice for maxing out your divine confetti item slot.
When I joined the Paleblood Hunt, my farming spot of choice was the forbidden woods. I hated every single time I traversed the entire loop from the first lantern all the way past Mr. Vermin Crusher, but all of the blood echoes, blood vials, quicksilver bullets... can't argue with results. I am notoriously bad at directions, spacial awareness, and finding my way in cyber or meat space so the fact that I could actually navigate the forbidden woods by the time I started the old hunters DLC should say something. I was also a Kirkhammer hunter, so many balls of snake-head enemies squished flat... so many times...
Sekiro best XP farming spot is at Outskirts Wall Stairway Idol after the interior ministry invasion. These guys drop shit ton of stuff including the extremely rare fulminated mercury, and you don't have to fight any one of them because you always spawn at their back.
The two silver knights outside Amor Londo, and the 2 skeleton swordman's on DS3. Man those Vertebra Shackles and Proof of compcord kept were painful to farm
In dark souls three, I farm one lothric knight in particular. after the boss with the dancer, there is a bonfire for lothric castle. Thing is, there is a lothric knight in perfect lightning bolt range from the bonfire. Use the soul buff items, kill the knight, sit down at the bonfire to make him respawn, and you have a fast soul farming spot, in addition to the knight being subjected to eternal torment!
There was a single knight in lothric castle that was sitting down with his back turned after walking up the steps with the dragon. A killed him for embers then jumped back down to the bonfire.
My one addition to this very solid list would be the summoner dude next to nameless kings bonfire in DS3. About 15 seconds from bonfire, violent stabbing in the butt and back for about 10K souls a pop. Easy money. Got to love dishing out the MEGA-BONQUE to the equally squishy scholars and phaalanx bois too though lol
Hu, didn’t expect #6 being the ministry ninja. I always used the enemies at that very killer koy level that are having a meeting on a stage next the Thunder football guy.
If you spawn at the site of grace right before the bridge to Redmane Castle in Caelid, you can ride over to a group of soldiers which gets them to fight the T-Rex dogs while you sit back at the bonfire to the tune of about 1000 runes a minute. Sit down at the grace, rinse, and repeat. Since its open world, you can literally ride straight there without fighting a single enemy. Between these guys and Greyoll just around the corner you can get to level 50 within an hour or so of starting the game
Im amazed the Sekiro entry wasnt the Palace sentry on the broke bridge by where the carp keeper was. He would drop so much money that i bought the dancer's mask after 2 hrs of farming him & skyrocketed my AP lol
For other DS1 picks... -The Rats in the Sewers (Humanity) -The Slimes in the Sewers (Titanite Shards, Green Shards) -The Darkwraiths in New Londo (Titanite Chunks) -The first three phantoms in the forest past the magically locked door (souls) -Dog Skeletons in Tomb of the Giants (souls)
From the last lantern on the walk up to the Mergo's Wet Nurse boss in the nightmare of mensis, there are two of the large pig enemies that can be beaten for in excess of 10k runes each in NG. They also attack the nearby shadow enemies, meaning if you can sneak around and lure them together, they can kill each other for free blood echoes and leave you to pick off the stragglers, rinse repeat. In elden ring at the very beginning if you walk out to the lake on your right from the tree sentinel and descend the ruins there you find a chest that teleports you into a cave in Caelid. This area has enemies far stronger than your progression (given you can do this 2 mins into the game) and leaving the cave and heading south you can end up at an area near redmane castle called the impassable bridge. Near to the grace site there are a group of foot solider enemies and large dog monsters who will attack each other if you get close enough to trigger them. Then simple walk away and watch them fight gaining roughly 5k runes without having to do a thing, reset at the grace and repeat. This method is slow, but can be done semi AFK, meaning you can set it up, go make a cuppa and sandwich and come back to set it off again, perhaps for example, load up outside xtra and binge through videos while passively grinding in the background. In dark souls 1, in darkroot gardens in the section leading to the NPC Alvina, there are couple of rather powerful human enemies that each drop round 8k souls. They are powerful enemies, however they can be kited and lured off a cliff for a free 15-16k which is repeatable at a very nearby bonfire. Once you've gotten strong enough that killing them isn't an issue this obviously becomes faster to do.
I liked the battlefield in calied for an early game farm. Even after it was patched, you could pull dogs and a crow from other areas then hide with the mimic veil on top of rocks for an easy 10 to 15k runes.
Silver knights on the stairs in Anor Londo in DS3. If I remember correctly I was getting about 100,000 souls in about 15 or so minutes and they can be fought right next to a bonfire so if you mess up you don't have to worry about losing your souls.
I always farm in the Flooded Fortress in Death's Door. Those jumpy monkeys with the boomerang hats give a good few souls and are so easy to kill. all they do is jump up and land harmlessly behind you so you can just easily kill them over and over again.
The giant clams in DS1 are a great source of twinkling titanite for special weapon upgrades. I “rinsed” them good and proper back in the day. Good times
Dark Souls, the bridge with the wyvern that flys in and sets everyone on fire, once you kick the ladder down to access the shortcut to the bonfire, all you need to do is trigger the wyvern and it will burn every enemy on the bridge, just duck back down the stairs to avoid the fire and reset at the bonfire.
I think a good one is the hollows on the bridge with the Helkite Drake in Dark Souls. All you have to do once you get the shortcut is climb a ladder, walk up some stairs, walk out, do all that in the reverse order, and repeat. >500 souls every time
The enemy I (almost) feel bad about farming in Dark Souls 1 is the tiny skeleton just before Nito. After you kill all the pinwheel servants you can use the Evil Eye Ring, Sanctus, and one of the few weapons that regain health upon hitting enemies to endlessly farm them without ever needing to visit a bonfire. Even with toxic and the mimic head, the only thing stopping you from your endless skeleton murder is your weapon durability. Oh, and they can drop humanities, which help if you slip up and need some extra healing.
You included the Reaper from Demon's Souls, but not the infinitely better Stingrays just down the road! Stingrays drop enormous amounts of souls and get one-shot with the magic sword in the arena. Also, you can literally stand next to the bonfire while you snipe them! For Dark Souls 1 I'd say the Helkite Drake bridge is a far more iconic farming spot. It's only 500 souls a trip, but it's available as soon as you beat the Taurus demon!
Dark Wraith knights in New Londo Ruins after you lower the water. Not so much for souls, but So many have been sacrificed to the god of Titanite Slab drops. I think one run I upgraded like 3 full sets of armour from their drops because I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to wear.
I mercilessly farmed the stone giants in DS1 Remastered's early game. About an hour got me 10 levels, & since the animated bushes wanted in, also 50-60 of each kind of moss. Poor stone giants.
I used to farm the silver knights in Dark Souls 3 at Anor Londo for (I think) 5k per kill... if you run back toward the sair elevator, they get stuck on an invisible wall by the bonfire so you can run to safety
i killed so many Darkwraith Knights in Dark Souls. It's a high chance that they drop Titanite Chunks, but also a little chance that they drop a titanite slap. It's the perfect way to max level other weapons and maybe change your playstyle.
There's one of the snake summoners in DS3, just next to the Nameless King's boss arena. It's a short jog down a corridor to get to them, they have their back turned, they can be killed in a couple of hits - probably one if you pull off a backstab - and drop about 1000 souls. Not as hefty as the summoned Knight you mention, but even less risk.
Ok, never realised that Mibu village interior ministry ninja respawns... Though, when I've tried to sneak behind them, they've gotten aggro, or the wolves above them have, which immediately alerts the ninja; not sure what was going wrong on my end that I couldn't get this to work, so gonna have to test it out more. I couldn't handle fighting them fairly, so what I did instead was, I jump deathblowed them by dropping onto them from all the way up where you descend to get to Mibu village in the first place; it was very satisfying when I got it to work.
Farming for souls is one thing but let's not forget the poor sods that were farmed for their drops: -The Black Skeleton at the Ritual Path for his Pure Bladestone. Considering the dropchance of this item, the poor skeleton had a lot of respawning to do; -Rats for their humanity in Dark Souls 1, specifically the ones just around the corner from the bonfire in The Depths. The dropchance isn't too bad but seeing as how I need 30 of them to save my buddy Solaire, the rats can be spared no mercy; -The Silver Knights of Anor Londo in Dark Souls 3, who drop the Proof of a Concord Kept item, required to level up in a covenant. The other way of getting these is through very tedious PvP and I'd rather run up and down those stairs thank you very much.
I killed a lot of Mibu Villagers in Sekiro when unlocking everything for the 100%. Each villager respawns like 3 or 4 times before you need to sit back at the idol. Plus, the sword kills them in one hit in the first new game cycle, no deathblow needed.
I think the test pilot from AC should get an honorable mention, not technically a soulsborne, but still from software giving us a very clear farming point He just wanted a call sign of his own
Dark soul 3, the Ascended winged knights. Drops 14000 souls per knight and a drop that’s either a gem, titanite chunk or a large titanite shard. Then a quick jaunt to the elevator down to the Grand Archives bonfire
The way I got through Dark Souls 1 fairly easily my first go around was absolutely murdering the forest watchers (I think they’re called) over and over and respawning them at the hidden bonfire. After you get used to luring them out one by one you can get a good amount pretty quick, even early on in the game. I just never went deep enough in to agro the axe warrior cause he’s STRONG and doesn’t even give as much souls.
In DS1, I feel like I spent most of my time farming for items rather than souls. So, rather than farming Phalanx, I spent most of my farming on: - Crow Demons in Painted World for Souvenirs of Reprisal (needed 10 to get the Darkmoon Blade miracle, if I remember correctly) - Giant Leeches in Blighttown for Green Titanite Shards (need a bunch to get a max level weapon of each elemental upgrade path for achievements) - Crystal Golems in The Duke's Archives for Blue Titanite Chunks - Bone Towers in The Tomb of Giants for White Titanite Chunks - Chaos Bugs in Lost Izaleth for Sunlight Medals It could just be me, but even with 10 humanity, I spent what felt like hours farming for these items alone. They far outweighed any farming for souls I ended up doing lol
For the Dark Souls, also: Farming souls is one thing, but once you get them, your soul levels will be with you for all time going forward. But what if I, the souls newcomer, have spent all my rare titanite on this cool divine halberd, but now want to switch to a cooler divine zweihander? No worries - there is a particular corridor near a bonfire in the depths filled to the brim with this type of jelly that falls to a predetermined spots and dies easily to fire, netting you green titanite - not every try, but all the same faster, than trying to find it by natural progression
In Skyrim I would farm NPCs soldiers from the civil war for their souls. Withe the black star and the mace of Molag Bal I’d power level enchanting. Not a souls born but certainly a lot souls
Those huge pigs in bloodborne are so easy to back stab and give of such a ridiculous amount of blood echos, after finding them you'd never have to worry about blood viles ever again!
Elden ring (before it was patched out) you could jump out of bounds in the area with that chicken and random group of mob guys mentioned. What it did was despawn the ground in the area after a little bit of falling, which then killed EVERYTHING. Fast travel back to the grace and repeat xD
In Sekiro I always prefer to farm from the Ashina Dojo going down to the White Snake Sanctuary after the takeover by Owl. It's mostly a sneak attack after the other and at least your brain doesn't completely switch off (you get some variety). Sekiro is also the game where you need less farming, but sometimes that experience is just so close to the next level!!
DS3, at the start of Anor Londo, the 2 knights that walk down the stairs. If you have good dps or a ranged option, that’s 2500 per knight, without soul boosters.
best farming spot in DS 1 is near Nito - just kill the Pinwheels and you are in for an endless supply of kid skeletons who drop souls and humanity... not much but they are easy to kill... and granted you got time on your hands, you can farm them literally endlessly, for millions of souls :D
The pigs in Bloodborne had it especially rough. It’s one thing getting killed over and over, but getting fisted to death over and over sounds way more horrible.
The Wild Folk outside the cat haunt in the Original Darksouls : baiting to fall off the nearby cliff you just need a shield and to know the run and you would have 3-4 angry Invaders basically lemming run to there deaths!
In Dark Souls 1 there's four people in the forest just behind a bonfire that are perfect for farming. Easy to kill and they dropped a few thousand souls each.
Personally, the unluckiest enemies are those who have cool weapons and armor, but sometimes only a 1% chance to drop each part. Like the Erdtree Guardians, who have nice drip AND a stylish weapon. At one attempt, I had 4 Spears, 2 Masks, 6 Robes, 3 Gloves until after an hour the Pants dropped. Literally.
