I was a target but thankfully not a victim. My intuition has always been one of my strongest traits, so I pulled away whenever things felt off, thankfully. Less than a year later, the guy was found to be texting multiple teenage girls and lost his job. I haven’t told anyone not out of shame, but just because I’ve already processed it so it doesn’t really feel relevant. And because my parents wouldn’t leave pieces big enough to find.
I sent this to my cousin as a tip, when I was 6 she told me she was SA'd by our Uncle, she was also SA'd at her current age. She had no one to talk to, she just told her online friends, they boost her up. I'm trying to help her too. I'll do whatever it costs, even if the Gr★★mer is more powerful than me.

When I was in middle school I met a friend's sister at my friend's birthday party. I was standoffish because of abuse that was happening at home? but her sister said I was "Cool" and started meeting me every single day at the bus stop. In the beginning we talked about TV-shows - but after a while she started by asking questions about my body and its maturity, then moved onto kissing and touching. My parents ignored it as "Friends" or "Friends sister", but this woman said she loved me and wanted to protect me from the family situation I was in. She joined the military and started buying me gaming consoles, clothes, games, weapons etc. It was a huge topic for years not to tell anyone, because she could get arrested. She would choke me, cut me with knives, and used to have me wear a collar for her? but she would also play it off as something normal (My parents thought it was a stylistic choice). Eventually she convinced me to move into her barracks with her. She would tell her coworkers I was family, or that I was her friend - then she would hook up with them behind the scenes while actively telling me she was dating me. Years later, I had people tell me they would get messages from her saying to leave me alone, or that she would hover when other people tried to get near me? I remember once at a BBQ party, one of her superiors was put off by the age gap and tried to ask if I was ok? but I was heavily manipulated into thinking things were normal, and that I was in love. I remember everyone else at the BBQ played it off as "He's a boy who likes older girls/he's lucky", but this guy went out of his way to track me down when I wandered away from the group to ask more questions and I respect him for that now even if he never did anything to get me away from that situation (He still recognized it was wrong). TLDR: A person being groomed isn't going to tell you "Hey I'm in danger", they might say "This is my friend" or "This is my partner" they might know not everything is normal, but see it as "A form of love specific to the person who cares for me". The kid might be going through other forms of abuse in their life? or be a survivor of extreme circumstances and see their situation as the better option. Don't take things at face value, even if a kid gets mad about you trying to help them they will be grateful years later.

I was groomed by a 19 year old man at the age of 13. The worst experience I’ve ever been through, they act like your friend, they sprinkle in little compliments to slowly get you hooked. I rarely got attention from men, so the second this man came in and started complimenting me, of course I was smitten. He then started asking weirder, and more personal questions that’s just not appropriate to ask a child. I remember telling him, “what if my parents find out about this”, or, “my parents wouldn’t like this”.. and he’d just deny it and say my parents opinions didn’t matter. He’d influence me to do disgusting things. My mom eventually found out and cussed him out, he never responded and never faced the consequences. Hes done it to other children, I’ve met one of his other victims, a 15 year old boy.and I know he’s still out there doing it to more.
I had a vrchat relationship with a guy who i only dated because i felt bad for him. I knew something was off from the beginning, since he was always trying to pull me away from my friends, touching my avatar (which ik isnt real, L me but still) and would always treat me with more priority with his friends. So glad we broke up, since we were 4 years apart and he had a literal job, while I was still a kid. He always talked to me about literally going to live with him, which was an immediate red flag. Im really thankful theres people like your channel that point this stuff out, otherwise others would end up like my dumbass.

While this video is very helpful, I think something left out is that you can be groomed by a fellow minor that is older than you, as well as unintentional grooming. Also, the fact not all groomers will use these specific behaviors, plus, I feel there was a lacking of representation for online grooming, as some of these were primarily or completely real life situations.
If you're a kid, it's best to report it directly to your parent or a police officer & if you're a parent, never let the school or people who were in charge where it happened speak to your child about it without you being there. *Keep in mind some people will have an interest in silencing the groomed child* I was groomed when I was a kid & told my mom. When the people at the facility where it happened sat me down to talk about it (without my parent) they gaslit me; they said since the person hadn't directly touched my private parts there was nothing seggual about it & they said I was "seggually abberated" because I was reading something seggual into something innocent. I was nine years old. They made me feel embarrassed and guilty...and for the next ten years I let people touch me inappropriately and never said anything about it for fear of being called a pervert.

My own friends acussed me of grooming someone online, i did not do any of the signs shown, im not an adult or way older than one of the supposed victims that i never manipulated, this one and me have the same age, i have never talked to he weirdly in private, i was just flirting around with them like a joke, he never felt uncomfortable and he was joking around too but i decided to stop because it felt kind of weird (this is one of the reasons they called me one) , months later some random kid that is 11 years old that joined the server way before me started getting more active and he was flirting with me when im literally 16 years old, and ofc i felt uncomfortable and ignored him and my friends were shipping me with him (ew) but at the end he said it was a joke, well i was inactive 4 months and when i came back they started calling me a groomer when he was the one who started, he was aware that i was 16 and i never played along with him, infact there were other people that have actually groomed one of the people there, 1 drew CP of the same kid that flirted with me, and the other one was manipulating another kid that was in the server, but they do not hate them at all and they forgot it and let it go, btw one of them apologized (their apology was not good at all and blamed us even though she drew CP of the 11 year old kid and was weird with him also.. the other one just got inactive, but guess what is the reason she was forgiven. Some guy from the server has a crush on her so they forgave her all out the sudden and trying to matchmake them both, They are hating me nonstop for something that i didnt do and its so annoying
i had an online friend for around a month that would do exactly this. it always felt kind of weird talking to them. they would lead me away from the other chat groups and get overly romantic as a 32 yr old to a 14 year old. they weren't a very good person, after a while i realized. i told them i wasn't feeling the best lately and that i wanted to take a break away from them for a bit for some alone time and they called me selfish and they told me that i always bring everyone else down and that is when i realized i shouldn't keep them around
Thank you so much. I have a friend who is under 15 and talks to people over the age of 20 explicitly. I've been doing my best to get them to block these people and not talk to them. It's a bit of a fight because they're so desperate for attention and they're hypersexual. Being over 18 myself, I refuse to address that with a 100 foot pole- but I just try to be there and check in with them and filter who they let into their life so they don't get hurt. They don't believe they're being groomed even though I've given them some signs and thinks its their fault for it and I want them to know it's not their fault and for them to get help for this. It's not easy and I'm sure a lot of kids are targets of grooming (I was at some point, but my parents forced me to give up my phone for a long time and I was scared of getting in trouble, so I didn't do it again-) Thanks again. Story time. hope this spreads some awareness. Just a year ago, I had an art teacher groom one of my best friends. We were in middle school, Skyveiw Middle school to be specific, and the process of grooming itself had gone on for over a year. My friend, (who I’ll call M) was a very skittish kid. He was trans and had a very degrading home life. He was viewed as extremely weird by the kids in school, and even the teachers found his mannerisms off putting. In 6th grade, our original art teacher moved into the high school, and her replacement was the teacher Russel Davis. All the students collectively agreed he was a “weird” teacher. People found him unprofessional and flamboyant and aggravating, and the whole school had a general dislike towards him. At first, I thought he just took a liking towards M because they both had been viewed and acted “weirdly”. M had openly talked about his crush on Mr. Davis excessively. I knew that M’s home life was bad, so it made some sense that he would be obsessed about his new only adult romodel. But then things started getting slightly weird. Many of the signs listed in this video started occurring. Excessive gifts, lots of drawings with subtle innuendos, more than 1 hug everyday, talking in classrooms alone for a few minutes after school, and more small things. These concerned me, but I didn’t expect things to escalate, and I am sad to admit, but I didn’t feel like something effective would’ve been done if nothing outwardly and directly sexual had already happened to M. The counselor even advised M to stop meeting up with Mr. Davis outside of class hours, but that was all that was done, and when it kept happening, it wasn’t stopped, and it seemed like it was in plain sight. But, after a few months of things like that happening, the last month escalated quickly, and in short, there was sexual activity going on in the classroom and sexting. When I was told that by M, I reported it to the fbi investigation. The next day he was gone and I was asked some questions by the deputy, and then I went to talk to 2 of my friends about the surface level of it because it was causing me severe turbulence, and then the next few days it spread like wildfire around the school. I still blame myself for that part. And to summarize it a lot of people said that I deliberately spread the (very inaccurate) rumors first hand in a mocking and spiteful way. And the only people that happened to talk to the deputy about how it spread were only people that had petty or spiteful vendettas against me for one reason or another. I still don’t understand why they didn’t ask me themselves. A sickening amount of students were saying it was M’s fault for being into it and liking it and desiring it from specifically Mr. Davis. It was shocking. M was vulnerable, and manipulated. As life went on and things died down slowly and faintly, M festered a lot of resentment towards me for handling everything the way I did, but I don’t blame him for being so upset. He’s going through a lot. But we’re still friends. I definitely could’ve done everything better. I hope people out there can see this as an example and act fast. Don’t ignore your instinct. If you want to look into this, just look up “skyveiw middle school teacher arrested” be safe. ❤

It's normal for a child to keep secrets from their parents. Its NOT normal for another adult to help a child keep secrets from their parents. NO MATTER HOW HARMLESS THE SECRET SEEMS!
My social studies teacher this year was an old guy snd was not married. He would always like call kids out to make jokes about them, or give kids more attention then others, another thing I noticed this year is he likes to hang out on the sides of the classrooms so he almost always put the attractive females on the sides of the desk arrangements. There was a kid I was close with who ALWAYS sat in the same spot in the front left corner. The teacher was almost always on that side and he would always say it was uncomfortable for him because it felt like he was hovering. My lunch table (we almost all had him just during different periods) were to scared to visit his classroom alone to pick up something if we forgot it. My other friend kept saying he kept trying to start conversations with her while she was alone or passing him in the hallway and she didnt want to respond but felt bad about it. One time he had us send a video to his sister singing happy birthday, I apparently wasnt singing so he called me out on video, it was literally also MY birthday that day and I know he overheard me talking to my friend about it. I have bad anxiety so when I was called out /accused I felt like shit for the rest of the class. I was a groomed myself before this guy so I could sorta tell. But I think he knew it was best not to act on his intentions. Thank you for spreading awareness.
Another behavior of child predators is that they often spend a lot of time around kids or go to places where there will likely be a lot of kids. Let's not forget threats. And parents/people who care for children, make sure you know who your children are talking to online or through text in case the predator has your child label their contact name as someone the child knows or has them use a fake name for the predator.
I think that the main purpose of grooming is not just for s&xual abuse or abuse in general it’s also the act of trying to have power someone by “being nice”
When I was in kindergarten I remember there was this one idk teacher I guess who was super friendly with me. I always thought that she was cool and fun because she wasn't like the typical adult "ordering me around". But yeah, she did many things that were bad and just now I'm realising how bad it was and I'm stuck in the stomach honestly. I wouldn't wish for anyone to have an experience like this. The person will make you trust them at first but after you find out what they were doing, you won't trust people as much as you used to.
I remember that when i was in grade six I had a teacher that was weird to me. For example she let me access severely mature books and to not tell my parents. She would always buy me stuffies, stim toys, or colored pens or pencils. I could evade punishments and get more personal time with the teacher. She would enable reading graphic books or content. Sometimes it smelled like fish after lunch. Then later rumors were that she was pleasuring herself. That year for summer school, she was caught watching cp and her search history saying “how to have sex with a student.” It’s unsettling to me cause she had a two year old girl ….
I got groomed, according to this. I was in a park when i was 5, and an old man started touching me in places they shouldn't have. And he gave me his contact information, And when I said i didn't know how to utilize that info properly he took my phone and put his contact in himself. And then we started talking. He held my hand forcefully and didn't let anyone take me, when we met up in public places. He also DID in fact keep giving me gifts to comfort me and got WAY too close to me. I don't know if it was sexual abuse or grooming, I'm 10, now. And I still think about it today. It only happened 5 years ago. I was too scared, and still am. I don't know what to do. I'm sorry if I am a coward, but I was too shy and still am. He's still texting me, and I text back sheepishly. It's my fault and I can't stop.
Sounds like both, predators target young individuals for a reason, young people don’t yet have a concept of healthy boundaries so it’s easier for them to make you think otherwise, which is why it’s such an evil and wicked crime, I hope you can genuinely heal from this, and I hope you can build up the courage to tell adults that care about you (genuinely).
I have an adult friend, I met her when I was 6, she gave me her contact, and isn’t a groomer, she calls me when she wanted to tell me smth, sends me pics when I ask where she is, and I showed her my room, complimented it, and showed me hers, apparently, she was my aunts friend!
After watching Loads of these kind of videoes, just made me realize that I myself am probably getting groomed.. and I say probably because i still have the Toughts like "no he wouldn't do that.. or, no I'm just being dramatic and I'm overreacting.." I'm in a situation where I don't know what to do... because at the same time I still care for him? And I liked the "special treatment, and sharing secrets" and all of the above, because it was fun.. it was fun being the one he would talk to about weird incidents, and being the one he "trusts". But the more i see these videos, the more i realize all of the red flags that also includes in his behavior...
I was on a 17 night cruise back in December, and there was karaoke every night. Me and my friend did it every night. My friend was a guy, but he had longer hair, and people often mistaken him to be a girl. There was this old guy that came every night to kareoke to watch us. On the last night we gave him a rubber duck and he asked for us to sign it, so we did. In trade he have up a real gemstone (not sure what kind) on a keychain for a necklace, then he gave us $100 and said to buy the nicest silver chains we could find. Both our parents tried to give the money back, but he wouldn’t take it. Not sure what happened to the money in the end, but I still have the gem. My mom saw him at a bar the other day, he thankfully didn’t see her, and thankfully I wasn’t there.
I'm 20 and still in denial about being groomed years back. However, all of the boxes were ticked. It helps me feel some peace of mind. I'm not crazy to consider it, even though I feel this need to downplay it.

i remember i was (possibly) groomed once. just an ordenary day on roblox, playing robloxian high school, roleplaying and stuff until i met this guy on there he seemed so cool to me, so i became his friend. he was always playing this audio with the lyrics "choke me, like you hate me" something like that. and was generally creepy whenever i was around. i respect everyone's attention towards me, but this is just too much. we even got as far as doing ERPs, i was around 11 years old at the time, and they never told me their age. in the end, we forgot about eachother like nothing ever happened. please, be careful whenever youre around somebody that seems "dear" to you. ps: if youre the person that was with me in RHS (which is probably close to impossible), please, get a life for fucks sake, nobody loves you.
I did not go through this but my husband has been accused of doing so just because of our age difference even though ithas all been consensual and a by definition healthy relationship. I had decided to watch this video to one, learn. And two clerify that my husband wasnt a groomer. Just because we met when i was a minor doesnt mean he groomed me. He was the ONLY man who didnt sexualize me or harrasse me. He is my best friend and has been the entire time. I have enjoyed the videos so far and have learned some needed info lol. They asked for outfit checks (360) made sure they where younger then about 16, and refused to tell their age but soon enough, we get it out of him...he was a 30 year old male looking for young females. The worst thing is, he would always say....age is just a number (know what else is just a number? 911! :3 ) as soon as we noticed who he was and his real intentions, we banned him from our server. Its honestly crazy how that group of people will totally screw up the actual definition of grooming. They arent Moms for Liberty. They're just destroying the firm definition of what is grooming and it will ultimately not only end up hurting not only queer people, but also people who are ACTUALLY getting groomed. The same thing happened to the word "harassment". People started using it to label crazy things, and ended up making a fool out of the word. Now people will be called a karen or something for just saying someone else harassed them. Crazy how words work. The more they are misused by crazy people, the more they are unusable and ultimately end up harming people.
Had a stroke trying to read that, but it should be noted that schools are regularly transitioning kids (not surgically tho) while actively trying to hide it from parents, which does indicate excessive secrecy. There are other problems with it, like the “forbidden things” and “minimizing concerns”. If you study the theory that informs Queer activism, it’s literally all about resisting normalcy by normalizing “the forbidden things” (All of them). Gayle Rubin’s “Thinking Sex”, a very influential text described the p word as an acceptable “sexual orientation”. One described the parents vs. activists struggle as childhood “innocence vs. initiation”(strange word)”. Basically all of the thinkers for Queer activism say that childhood innocence is a social construct that needs to be removed by exposure at younger ages so they can have more control over the kids and lure them from the values of their parents. I know you guys don’t like it being described with this word, but what other term is fitting for it? My father does this to me, I hate him for it, he even said he wished he was a teenager so we could date. Though good thing I know this, it’s sad but I’m glad I’m not naive and a pushover like before and I can yell at him, who cares if he’s a senior and disabled? @@dontworry3343 I'm sorry to say but your being manipulated that's another tactic groomers use making you feel like you can't tell anyone and there's no help, still tell them because there is, there will always be good people that'll believe you and will care and will want too look into it and try too help I promise regardless. Tell your school and just tell them about your mother too and how you'd get in trouble if they told her and they'll understand I promise and won't tell her. That's lots of other support aswell, call a child protection service if you need too. Really does make me ill how someone's own parents can treat there own child like that, pls do anything you can too improve the situation, wish you the best!
I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. There may be resources for kids being groomed & abused available to you, if you haven't already checked around consider doing so. & there may be a trustworthy adult around you that you haven't recognized just yet. Listen to your gut, it can help you. Ask questions to test the waters before you confide in anyone. Both of your parents are abusing you, and a trustworthy person will not go to your mom if you explain how she enables your dad. Cops often enable abusers as you've already figured they would with your dad, so it's best to seek aid outside of law enforcement whenever possible. It's awful & hard, but you will make it out. I know you didn't ask for generic advice from some internet rando, but if nothing else I hope it helps knowing someone out there believes in you & wants you to have comfort & safety. There are people in the world who care about you, who will support you & help you be safe. You will find them. You deserve to be safe, you deserve to be free. Keep going. 💜
@@dontworry3343 That's terrifying, the only thing that I can think about is gathering evidence, such as audio recording him whenever he says those disgusting things, or trying to capture anything such as gestures on video. Basically, try your best to get evidence because that's the only way that you will be able to get any sort of justice. I'm so sorry that you have to go through that. The moment it gets any sort of physical, you would have no choice but to get the police involved. He's already scarring and hurting you, your mother has to make your safety her priority. This is your life, try your best to protect yourself. I really hope it stops and that you can eventually heal from this traumatic experience.
My "friend" who is 18 I was 13 she kept asking multiple times to get with me or be fwb I was new at my school and after 2 days of befriending them they started making me very uncomfortable showing me their "intimate toys" and telling me at times when they felt horny,I felt very uncomfortable I didn't really know what to do I have a very hard time saying no. The part that sucks was that they were very aware of the age difference and said if I do say yes eventually that it would have to be a secret. I only realized that it was grooming until I told my friend about it and she referenced her with the word groomer, at that point I started to realized that it wasn't normal and is terrible.
Is it possible for adults to be groomed? I’m currently 19 and my ex is 26. He was mentally, verbally, physically, and sexually abusive so the relationship was no doubt very toxic 😅 but a lot of these signs happened as well..

You can be groomed evern at the age of 18 - 20. Many pred@tors tend to look for young children whom they can legally prey upon. I was at an internship where my head was a groomer, but i didn't realise it because i was new to corporate culture and didn't know if what all was happening was normal or not. But it did make me uncomfortable. Anyways stay safes y'all, keep your guard up all the time. Its for the best
My last year english teacher kept telling people i was his favorite student and would give me more attention and kept praising me when taking attendance (he says their name and a few things on how theyre like in his eyes) and basically saw me as a star student but i dont think that was grooming, pretty sure it’s cause he was my favorite teacher and i was always on my best behavior when in his class

My mum has a bf that makes me feel very uncomfortable and he tries to touch me but I just run away and I try never to be alone with him my mum gets mad at me for my actions. it’s been 3 years or so. I’ve asked others what they think about him and they say he’s weird he gives off a bad vibe. When I have to be with him he just looks at me a lot and try's to talk with me. One time my mum made me wear something that showed my skin and my chest and he looked at me the whole time. The only thing that stops me is that he has a son who lost his mom early and maybe he looks up to my mum I don’t wanna take that away from him…
When I was younger, I got groomed online and I didn’t know at all. They weren’t even an adult but they made it so obvious that they were grooming me and that same person is still roaming to this day. I’m still recovering and when I tried to expose them for what they did no one listened :(

I think that my brother is being groomed. I'm so torn on what to do. I'm terrified, and I know he thinks it's okay, but I just can't help but hesitate. The best thing you can do is support your brother so he knows you're there to help, encourage healthy behaviors and boundaries, and make sure it's not secret. If there's nothing wrong with their relationship (assuming there's nothing in your brother's life he cannot trust the other adults in your life with due to their failings as support figures) there should be no reason things need to be secret. Secret and private are not the same thing. He doesn't have to violate either his or his "friend's" privacy to be honest about how much they're hanging out, when they're going to be hanging out, what they're generally talking about or doing. The thing is pressure doesn't help people come forward about those things, trust and support do. Keep in mind though the part that makes it "grooming" is the abuse, or intended abuse (breaking down someone's boundaries or standards so they'll accept or submit to mistreatment later that they likely wouldn't have otherwise tolerated). If there is no abuse, and no knowledge or evidence of intended abuse, then that isn't really grooming, it's just being an awful influence. Which happens sometimes, and is still bad and abusive in its own way. No adult in your life should erode your boundaries, any adult in a child's life should be building them up to be ready for the world, not the opposite. If you're afraid this person isn't doing that, you should definitely talk to your brother and the people around you about that.
It baffles me how schools don't have "keeping yourself safe" lessons. It should be a mandatory requirement like once a week Edit: omg "keeping yourself safe" is the OBJECTIVE of the lesson, it obviously isn't/wouldn't be called that 🙄 I don't know what it would be called but this is a serious video about signs of grooming. While this video is mainly directed at children who are especially vulnerable to grooming, adults can be manipulated and groomed too. I’ve had people try to groom me despite being in my 20s, trying to exploit my autism and how desperate I am for a stable relationship with someone I like.

I disagree since adults typically have more control of what happens to them compared to minors. Because it kills me how I’ve seen this word be misused as a means of dodging accountability over any bad decisions made. At the end of the day, there will always be terrible people in the world while it’s up to you through proper discernment to know who they are. Therefore, I don’t say this to invalidate your experience or anything, but looking at this from a different angle.

Me too! Several times. I just recently unlocked a memory when I was 12/13 my mom wanting me to date my stepdads "young" coworker. My aunt and I were talking about it. She said my mom said "who cares how old he is if he buys her things" wtf. Thank goodness that young man was not comfortable with it. I remember just feeling confused but just standing there. I have zero contact with my mother. She hasn't even met my 2nd baby. Only met my first once.

Same, luckily nothing happened because the caught it this year and he got investigated. He was a teacher at middle school and this year my mom found a text on my phone and reported it to the police. There were so many sighns from 11-14, I just turned 15 and the investigation ended like 3 months ago so it’s still on my mind a lot.
I'm a minor who had terrible past, watching this vid It triggered me so much that I remember my unwanted memories with my groomer when I was around 5-10 yrs until it happened again with another groomer who was my own father when I got 12-14, glad I told my mom the truth about his behavior or it would gotten worse if hadn't to, and they got divorced+ filed an case against that man...

Thank you for making a video covering this topic, especially now when poor, younger individuals are becoming more and more victimised to grooming. I have friends who weren’t as lucky to avoid such awful things happening to them from overpowering adults in their childhoods, so hopefully this will help the children of today stay safe. I may have heard too many stories about these types of things, and I especially hesitant to trust adults I haven’t trusted before, particularly men for some reason, but at least I know all the warnings and red flags. Thank you for making this video so more people can be educated
when i was sa'd/groomed by my eldest sisters ex fiancée when i was 12 i looked for a vid that could validate my suspicions, didnt really find any but thankfully i didnt let it go on for more than a day. there needs to be more vids like this from more people. no one should shy away from these types of videos when it could help someone in the long run. kudos for making this, it can really help someone speak up before its too late.
Can confirm - first met my groomer at 13, then reunited at 16 - and he haunted me until I was 21 when we cut ties. Grooming can happen to literally anyone.
Yeah it happens especially to adults who are vulnerable (for example due to mental disability) or when theres a strong power dynamic (like college teacher and their student). But kids are targeted more because theyre easier targets than most adults. We can definitely still acknowledge that there are adult victims
@@lylyssy the thing is, it kept happening back to back to a point where I just dissociated. I can't feel anything anymore. No emotions, no hatred, no love, nothing I often fake my emotion to fit in but deep down inside I feel nothing for nobody. Not myself or anyone I love or care about. So it's not really much coping, it's that I don't care about anything anymore
my dad 1. told me not to tell my mom that he was letting me sit on his lap (he would often 'let his hands wander') 2. often guiltripped me with excessive gift-giving and disappointment when I said I didn't remember them 3. ignored my brother - blatantly and obviously favorited me over him 4. honestly my mother and my brother (the only other immediate family I had in the house) were always distant, so it was extremely easy for 'one-on-one time' 5. often broke sensible rules my mother set for me (such as not letting me stay up too late, watching inappropriate content - I was ten - and eating too much sugar) - he'd break those rules and tell me that my mother was too strict anyway, or 'crazy' or 'insane' (and while she does have her own mental issues I believe now that those were okay rules) 6. constantly touched me, asked for hugs, inappropriate touching, - I couldn't say no because I was *ten* - and he was mostly absent from my life anyway, so I didn't know what father-daughter boundaries were *supposed* to be, etc 7. my mother disliked my father because he was an asshole to her and would often comment about how 'it isn't very appropriate for you to sit on his lap' (but she never did anything because she was often away for work and didn't know how bad it was, I don't resent her for not knowing) and she'd usually complain about him in general - he'd tell me and my brother she was 'crazy', or narcissistic (which she is, I won't deny that), or lazy, or - generally badmouthing her (they both badmouthed each other to us, though, so I guess in this aspect both of them check the box)
I feel like my step dad is also like that when i tell something to my mom about what he did he would say that "Oh so know ur on her side after i feed u and everything" and it makes me feel bad about it

It should be noted that grooming can also be done for non-sexual purposes (grooming a child to be like a parent's therapist or 'friend'- a shoulder to lean on and put their adult burdens on- for example), and the manipulation used in grooming can match up with other types of abuse and manipulation (I.e. special attention, random gift giving both match up with signs of love bombing).
@@ashsa07 not in the traditional sense, but the idea of introducing adult topics to a child who isn't old enough to fully understand or navigate them consensually, there's an undeniable overlap. Even if it's not sexual, it's still inappropriate, right? Like if one parent is venting about their problems with your other parent, or talking about issues with their personal life and friends, or (for example) offering you alcohol because you're "so mature, you're the only friend I can talk to about this, so what's the harm in a drink between friends? Oh, but don't tell your teachers I did this. It's a secret between us, okay?" You can't deny that these are all the characteristics of grooming.
