I know I'm late to comment, but this is my third time watching the video. It is just so therapeutic for my soul. I love your idea of creating a little friction to make spending a little more complicated. Implementing this idea, I now only carry cash for gas and lunch and leave my cards to avoid overspending.
The 30 day wait policy has been the best thing I’ve incorporated into my life. No more mindless spending because I want the item right now….it has saved me tons of money.
I live in Brazil and I found your channel not long ago, but I wanted to say that I really like the way you approach minimalism, I will be following your content. Hugs from Brazil!
I really needed to hear this one. Thank you. I have been doing the leave things in my cart for a while, or on a wish list with amazon. It's shocking how much less I buy. I take time to consider why I want it and do I really need it. Then buy. Good reminder on wabi sabi. As well just using what you have. Do I need the new macbook air 15" well.... no... my m1 air 13" does what I need. So hard to not grab shiny new.
Only started following today, your backpack story triggered me. Recently I was tempted to replace my Hedgren backpack that saw me through the last years of secondary school, 5 years of higher education, has been carrying way too many RPG books since and served as my carry-on luggage. I turned 42 and decided to hold on to old faithful for a while longer
Thank you! I was just about to push the "buy" button on a rather expensive item and after watching your video decided to go with thee "30 day wait" policy. I think that is a great way to handle the "I wants".
You bring up many good points Nicholas of which I've adhered to over the years. It's put me where I am today, living frugal yet comfortable lifestyle. I do have that will power as I drive by McDonalds after the gym and think of nice their coffee be this morning but then I think, mine is ready at home, just hit the start button (end of story). The word 'impulse' is the key word here, don't let it control you. Leave items in your cart for awhile. If it's meant to be it will happen and with a bargain.
Problem is I don’t have any salami. Will honey roast ham do? Agree totally with the wish list / basket hack. I’ve been doing that for a while, depending on what it is I usually leave it a few days to a few months. Another thing I do is keep logged out of Amazon and have to put the password in each time I want to buy something. Extra barriers. That back pack is a beast, after seeing how well yours stands up to life I might get one myself. That park with the lake is amazing, is that near where you live? Agree with you with the computer thing, I still run a years old Mac mini. I’m in the mindset that I’ll replace it when it breaks. Until then I’m not even looking for one. Great video again mate!
Well said, Nicholas. Listening to you over the last year or so has definitely influenced my attitude towards possessions and spending habits. Thanks! Take care!
I’m an avid watcher of your videos and got excited because of friend of mine just got a MacBook Air I have a MacBook Pro that’s kind of eight years old but I got bought into the excitement and I don’t even use it and it’s past 14 days and I can’t return it. Well live in learn I will be more mindful next time. Thanks for your video. Always awesome your content I appreciate it and you.
One of the biggest ways I save money while maximising out of the house entertainment is a cinema pass. Pay £15/month, watch any movie I want - with cost of movies nowadays if you see one movie a month you break even, see two a month and you’ve saved £15. In June alone there’s 4 movies i would be seeing in cinemas regardless of the pass so it’s saving me £45 this month not including other movies I may see
Great video! It really all comes down to your money mindset and putting saving first! Through minimalism I have learned that things aren’t needed to be happy, it is so much more
@@NicholasGarofola I just subscribed to your channel. Love the advices that you give on what to spend what not to spend has given me a clear perspective. Thank you and God bless you brother. 👊🏻😎
I would love more money lol but seriously great video and I definitely try not to spend without planning. I think about whether or not I’ll actually need it and how my life will change because of whatever I buy.
True sometimes the experience of anticipation of things has a greater dopamine producing effect, than the actual thing or event. To apply myself industriously to whatever business I take in hand, and not divert my mind from my business by any foolish project of growing suddenly rich; for industry and patience are the surest means of plenty by Benjamin Franklin
On my phone where I keep all my pictures I create albums of things that I want to buy I create loadouts for instance; I have a gym loadout pictures of a shirt, shorts, shoes, socks and gear all that stuff I do the same with my everyday carry stuff that keeps me straight and accountable
Those little tears & stains on items are part of that journey of ownership, like you said. I think I need to remind myself of that more often. Thanks for the great insight as always. 🖤
Hey Nicholas, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I loved your videos. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make highly engaging shorts for you?
I found your channel today & viewed some of your old videos. Great stuff actually. However I don't know why but I get this gloomy, dull, & lonely vibes from your videos.
I appreciate the message and I have trouble with impulse buying. However, wouldn't frugal living mean not buying that Mac or Ember coffee mug and instead using a workhorse HP and a regular ceramic coffee cup? Wouldn't buying cheap from the beginning obviate the need to save money? I am new to this type of video, and I am genuinely asking.
If you buy something cheaper but don’t enjoy using it or always find it dissatisfactory, you end up wasting your own money and time. It’s better to buy a good one that you’ll be satisfied with for a long time and avoid the temptation of buying a new one every time a new version comes out.
Very common and a topic of pride in Indian and mostly South Asian countries to boast about how long one made their items to last. A 20 year old fridge was a pride thing until 2 years ago and me and my family dealt with the issues of using an old fridge because of that pride... Or how the amount of years you use your phone is a thing of pride... How much discount you can get is also a thing of pride. My 5 year old Lenovo, has a (admittedly bad) 2gb graphics card and an i5, which I got for around 400 dollars then.
What would you do if you have some budget for food(although that budget could have gone to somewhere better) and want to have some nice food for a while? Would you treat yourself or do you think it's better to just screw it and save it?
Hii Nicholas... Your videos are so motivating for me in order to save money and living minimalist life... Your videos are so amazing 🤩🤩 Love from India ❤❤🎉
thanks nicholas:my problem is that i love spending money, but i am very mindful of what i buy: i now buy second hand clothes, eat up leftovers and appreciate the things i have: i am getting there.
Get a different backpack North Face just like Bud Light, Target, Kohls and others who have gone WOKE and finally people are sick of this crap. GO WOKE, GET BROKE.
He won't throw something that is still working, useful and looking fine away because of some ridiculous political sh*t 😂 how brainwashed and braindead are u please? Lmao.
Can you define woke? Those brands you listed do a lot of good for local communities around the US. Not only that but they also have solid and great products. I bought my North Face backpack back in 2017 and its still going strong and it almost looks as great as it did back in 2017.
One of the biggest ways I save money is shopping in salvation army and buy a used computer (laptops). Most of my friends will say : but your OS don't run anymore.... Reinstall it with *BSD/Linux and it will get a new life for a long time. Some Laptops there is a sticker with the code for reinstall the OS or upgrade (If running Windows)
