I love Acura owning a V6 TSX myself but the way this guy drives makes me cringe. I know it's not he car but he does not drive like he owns a Honda / Acura.
Nice video brother! Checkout my Turbo J32a3 7th Gen Acccord coupe, making 560whp + on only 8psi! 😏💪🏻 NA it made 316/262 with our Stage 2 Cams. We do all types of Performance parts (Stage 1-3 Heads, Stage 2 Cams, PnP work, PnP runners/TB/Intake, etc). Check us out on IG @ HalferLand Performance
Good for you.The drivetrain on a car doesn't make a different to me. FWD understeer? Challenge accepted! Don't by a RWD just because it's easy mode for speed and handling. If there's no challenge, it's boring.
That makes sense, I was going to say, there is NO way matt is that composed coming out of a corner on the power first time in a vehicle, one that makes '700 hp' through just the fronts, they shoulda been lit up if he was on that power setting....
Yeah, right. I have a 1300hp bmw M3, but it's tuned to 450hp. My Prius is 890hp, but you might not notice because it's tuned to 250 . . . What a load of shit. Who wants a 700hp FWD car, anyway? Apparently no one, because the one guy in the world dumb enough to claim to have one "tuned it down to 450." Even in his imaginary world of 700hp FWD Acuras, the tiny degree of reality that seeped in smacked him on the head hard enough to make him back down on his claim. Because no one wants a 700hp FWD car - not even when they are making shit up.
+sprawl nod There are like 500 fucking Hondas on RU-vid pushing 700+. You've never built a car if you don't understand why a car can make 700 on a dyno pull and be detuned for reliability.
@@converseatthemetgala the newer tl's get pretty cute once you fix the chrome front grille thing to black, the duck tail ish trunk looks kinda funny but i like it personally
daaaamn i love these TL's, gotta be one of the best looking if not THE best looking sedan japan has ever made. beautiful choice, she can move for a big girl
Yeah I have one (06 6MT). I really love it. My only real complaint is that the fuel economy isn't great relative to its speed. 22-25mpg on premium fuel isn't great compared to more modern cars that are similarly fast, yet average 28-32mpg.
splewy it's hard to beat a civic pound for pound, but if i just COULDN'T drive a civic this would be an easy second choice for me...an '05 style in all black or all white, rims and all... she has a long, sexy set of japanese legs that's for sure
lmao right, and a stock TL also holds the lap record on the Nurburgring, right? I like the TL is much as the next guy but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
+Crusher103 I'm seriously not even kidding. I'm just talking about the headlights, not anything else lol. I've never been particularly fond of the tl so it's not like I'm a fanboy or anything
Looks like fun to drive. Andy's my buddy from college and he's a good guy. He's been posting pictures of this build, including the kitchen pictures, for years. Good to see it in action on the track.
Just linked up with him. In regards to his rotrex kits for the tls. Awesome guy to talk to ,we chatted on the phone for quite some time. Looking forward to pulling the trigger sooner than later
Ah, this makes me miss my 04 TL. The thing would torque steer like a MF when you'd mat the throttle, and it made 270hp a whole lot more exciting than it had any right to. For what is effectively an accord with a pretty face, that car could rail through the corners when you put sticky rubber under it. Kudos to this owner for a solid build!
My late grandfather had the same year and model obviously without any work but seeing them will FOREVER make me think of HIM and for that I will someday upgrade from my 03 Accord k24 5mt to something like this eventually. So everyday I look at the car and will think of him.
@@WelshyAutomotive that comment was made 4 years ago you would think somebody would have matured by then. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7-8 KJV
These cars are great from the factory. They start at 270 horsepower and the 6 speeds come with a limited slip diff. Aside from being wrong wheel drive it's a a great car.
+vidurc I can claim what? That front wheel drive is Inferior to rear wheel drive at the track? This has been proven a long time ago. Rear wheel drive is better for road courses, drag racing and it's more fun. I don't know what figures you are talking about with the g35 and is350 but they are both faster to 0-60 and in the quarter mile than the tl type s.
d1sturb3d119 Toyota and nissan don’t have anything on Honda/Acura vehicles. Honda invented variable valve timing. And that’s when the VTEC system was born.
FWD can be fast, very fast if set up properly. Been saying this for years. Guys tuning MINIs, Saabs, Alfas, and Volvos have been doing this for decades...very fast and great handling FWD cars. Dont think FWD can be fast? Just ask Jason Plato, Ivan Muller, Gabrielli Traquini, etc. from WTCC and BTCC - fastest cars are FWD. This Acura, while not my favorite sedan by any means, seems well sorted...when he fixes his tune and perhaps O2 or cooling issue...nice job. Way to go for being different.
Those cars you're talking about are all out race cars with $30,000 in the dampers alone. No where near the same thing as a family sedan. They're FWD for cost, no other reason.
Fast FWD will kill you if you lift off, and in most corners you'll barely steer. Quite tricky actually. This one is just a street missile build. Lots of power and crappy coilovers with too low ride height for the spring rates and dampers that overheat. Car's just riding the bumpstops all the time.
Skylar Garrett where do you get your info from? Dont you think they would go RWD if it was so vastly superior? That is the chassis they are working with - just look at the domination of FWD in the 90s touring car era. They were not so far removed from their showroom cousins. I have been in an old 90s touring car, been in the engine bay, looked underneath...same as my car, except the parts are just that much better and expertly set up. That is all.
***** You are totally right about this car. I did say properly set up however...obviously this car has a way to go in the handling department, but it can get there... And no it wont kill you, have been in very fast FWD before, just have to drive it differently than RWD that is all...
It was meant tongue-in-cheek :P But fast FWD's are quite snappy and mistakes are costly. Which is what I meant. Of course they require a different driving style :)
No, SH-AWD was reserved for the RL (or "Honda Legend" if outside the USA). When the TL did gain SH-AWD, not only did it become a different car, but it messed up the whole hierarchy. Things only somewhat settled once the TL became the TLX, but that cost us the existence of the TSX. Won't even start with the RLX :-/
Just got a 2005 Acura TL. It's the 6 Speed manual. Oh it's nice. I can't say anything negative for getting it at 19. I like it quite a lot. It's comfortable for me and some guests and it goes when I need it. Can't complain.
Seems like every week there's a car claiming X power, bit clickbaity, then it's on a different tune at 2/3 the power in the video. My Nissan Juke is 1000hp, but it's currently on the 160hp tune.
Well if you title it "450 WHP Acura TL" then in the first few seconds of the video I say "600 WHP," it gets very confusing. Its much easier to put the 700 HP number, which I am told and repeat in the beginning, and find out it was on a lower tune later. I've seen the dyno sheet, it does make 665 WHP, so it's not inaccurate, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.
TheSmokingTire Yeah I know you have to work with the info you're given Matt, it wasn't a personal dig at you. Just an observation :p The owners of the cars probably wouldn't be happy with you putting 450WHP either lol.
petoneves Matt is bad with remember numbers. This was 502whp / 440wtq at 9psi on e85. 15psi is 634whp and 470tq. Check out my Instagram profile "gerzand" for dyno videos and graphs. Thx
Until you own or drive one of these cars, you prob will never understand how well these cars rotate for their size and weight even with stock suspension.
fwd cars are fast because of the lack of drivetrain loss compared to rwd and 4wd, and if you have a good suspension setup on a fwd car, it doesn't matter how much power you got, it'll corner well
No it won't lol, it will understeer and 300 hp in a FWD will spin every time so your not putting down power to the ground. Atleast with RWD, you get balance of power and can drift!
I absolutely loved my 08 Type-S. If I still had it I'd let you take it out for a spin. Some lucky bastard somewhere has it and it's properly sorted, well it was when I sold it.
Always loved this generation of tl. The type s is probably one of the best factory production cars acura/Honda has ever produced in terms of a 4 door sedan. Wish I could get my hands on one
Hey Matt, if I have RU-vid Red, which means I don't have to view adds, does that mean you don't make money from my views? Or does YT have some other mechanism for paying you?
Man, this generation of the TL aged really well. 6 years ago I almost bought a loaded 6spd TL. I went to the dealership on a Wednesday to check out the car and called on Thursday to say I want to come leave a deposit and found out they sold the car an hour after I left on Wednesday. 😕
Yo Matt, what happened to ads on Your channel, in like three of the latest videos I didnt ge any ad. I used to watch'em, since they were bit relevant, but no ads? Did the sunglasses finally start to pay up? :)))) No ad block or any other ad blocker.
RU-vid has an algorithm for serving ads. Even when ads are enabled, not every view will generate an ad. I don't know what the exact algorithm is, but its normal. Sometimes you just don't get an ad.
I felt guilty there for a sec that my adblock whitelist failted me. LISTEN ladsladies: You can make Matt's channel exception, just google Your adblockers name HOW TO TURN *BLOCKER FOR CHANNEL. It will give him cents - thousands of cents, whatever. He needs to make money to make this veideos cos his sunglassses ain't paying enough.
Oh come on, Matt wouldn sell his brand for advetiising. He does it for love of fans. He doesn't need to pay his bills, or his family,, of course he doesn't need to buy cameras and insurance. Dilllon specs just give give him glasses so he can wear them. Matt doesn't need to pay for flight tickets and the crew and their photo tools, and unsurance for them tools. You know people who shoot his shit... from his own pocket because he loves us and doesn't need to pay for these things Thats why he did and does one takes (btw holy shit dude thank You for em, and thanks for inspiration.) . Matt thanks You for spending 3k for this video, in all costs that could have happened or did happen. (Since every and each of them cars could have possibly be crashed or crashed into...) Matt, Have dare You to ever ask for patreon or shit like that man?You must be swimming in money. All, in all, fuck You Matt, How dare You porviding us with free entertainment?
+Joe Black I been following Matt since Garage419 and I always knew he would have a big channel because his content has always been consistent even on Drive too even though it was a bum deal for us for a paid channel with not so much content as the free ones. Defo think the one takes bought a load of new subs and I'm really liking the variety of cars shown here's to TST 🍺
Still working on it.... Endless project. No more project cars for me, they suck. I could have just spent the money on a Porsche and been perfectly happy rather than reinventing the wheel.
+Michael Crosset I know he did, but I'm on an Acura forum with the kid who's car it is. It's an 07 types s. The type s was not available till 2007 and 2008.
KingDarr This is a direct quote from Andy Gerzina (the cars owner) on the Acura TL Facebook page we are both on. "Matt Farah was confused. It's an 07 Type-S with my old 05 base interior swapped into it. I even provided him a spec sheet. figures! lol". If you still don't agree, look up what TL comes in a 3.5. The ONLY one that comes in a 3.5 is the type s. Which was ONLY available in 2007-2008. Or message Andy on Facebook to ask the owner.
Yes, exactly what i said. It cant be 05 if its type s. Plus the body, larger grill, lights, gauges, side mirrors are all from the 07-08 facelift/ type s. 3rd gen is nice, but you get so much more in 07-08 vs 04-06
My RSX is on cut springs with Megan coils sadly, don't know what the fuck the previous owner was thinking, they can be alright if you set it up right for the track, for the street it sucks. I'm going back to OEM with the Aspec/Type R suspension, the manufacturer does it best.
That's sick. That's a 07-08 Type-S. Same as mine. Those things stock are pretty good cars. They had torque steer from the factory, I can't imagine 450whp 😱
ahhhhh come on man what the frack, all that power and harnesses and everything, but no ROLLOVER protection?!?! I can't believe the track staff even let the car out there. That's super shady. The car seems awesome and all, but seriously, at that level it really NEEDS rollover protection, especially when you're pinned into the seat with fixed harnesses.
Terry Hernandez Seems rather arbitrary. Honestly any vehicle with racing harnesses needs some sort of rollover protection. With normal seat belts, if the car rolls over, your upper body can move so as to not injure (or kill you) when the roof caves in. With harnesses you can't move to the side at all. You're pinned in place, and a rollover could very likely break your neck.
The car did not pass tech, and they were not going to let it out. Because it was me (and only because it was me) they said I could go out in it at my own risk.
Because unlike you and all the other dumbasses who think that high hp FWD doesn't work, we actually know about things like BBG, traction control, and throttle modulation as well as stiff rear springs, motor mounts, traction bars and a good alignment with wheels allows you to put down plenty of power even in a FWD. It's a road car anyways, plenty of the pulls he does in it is probably from a roll....
Well, it is undoubtedly true that high power outputs and FWD are not conducive to a driveable car. It'll torque-steer straight into the nearest tree if it ever actually puts any power down.
Nice video. I used to own a Supercharged 2004 TL in WDP color. I had a Eaton S/C and only dyno'd at 313whp. So I can only imagine how fast that 450whp was on the track.
Why spend SO much time money and energy on a front wheel drive v6 sports sedan? No matter what you do, it will still drive like a front wheel drive car with a heavy v6 in front.
It's a cool build, drives surprisingly well, and it's original. It's a V6 not a 4-pot so no one can say it's a riced-out turbo 4-banger. Sounds the business, and goes like hell, all in a sleeper sedan.
+VirusTornado Not everyone in the car industry likes driving don't they. Some love the 'engineering'/'building' part, some like the 'looks' and 'bling'. But i for one love driving. Lightweight rear wheel drive or all wheel drive only for me when I want a platform to throw money at. I'm not saying FF cars are shit, heck i'm in love with mine rn. But if i had to pick a project car is what i was saying. I'm sorry my original comment can be a bit offensive. Have a nice day guys.

People just can't be satisfied. Some State that 300 hp is slow while others say that 700 is to much. I'm impressed that the 3.5 v6 is able to make that much power with a supercharger... Times have changed indeed
