700 miles on Collins tow dollies! Will they blow up?!?

I got called to tow a GMC Yukon Denali from Bend Oregon to Pocatello Idaho. I loaded it up on the tow truck with my Collins High Speed Dollies under the back of it and headed east through the high desert of Oregon and into the plains of Idaho. Since I have a serious hatred of motels, I turned it into an impromptu overland trip and camped on the ground in a cow field.

Driving through the panhandle of Texas once I saw an old stove with the oven door open on the side of the highway. Right next to it was a highway sign that said "Open Range"! There musta been a cowboy comedian in the area!

Just the fact that they dare send you a set of shitty well past their best before date tires shows what kind of seller they are! :-( That sucks! It's very nice to see how careful you are, checking your gear and making sure nothing breaks, loosens or falls off your load! About 130 miles between towns? I can drive from east to west across my country and barely drive that far! (and that's a nation with over 17 million people in it) Lovely scenery! But interesting to know that "open range" means that cows have the right of way, even when they are walking across a road!

What a great payday!.. good maintained equipment, and driving decent speeds & not overloading helps. Nice trip to get the customer their car at home. Seemed like some beautiful country. You said you were going through Ontario, OR just before Idaho. My cousin 's address is Ontario despite her living about six miles west off highway 20 I believe. I have been there one time and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. Stayed for four days and all of Oregon that I saw was beautiful green fields. I didn't check the date of the video but because you were driving your old tow truck, it must have been at least a year old.

as an equipment mechanic who does side work on big rigs, i cant tell you how much i hate cabovers. the only time i work on them is when the owner doesnt want to work on it, so basically the stuff that is harder because its a cabover. had a guy who lost his fan belt and his pump to raise the cab was being rebuilt in his home state and was still running the truck. told him i wasnt the one to do it, i was also oncall for my company and had no plans to do side work that weekend so i could rest and it will be way over priced. asked me for my qoute anyways, told him 1500 he said he would try someone else. 3 hours later he called and agreed. aparently truck shops were 2 months out and everyone else who worked on trucks were 2 weeks out.

@CaseyLaDelle

@@dennistaylor5052 I have no idea weather they have the capability of doing that repair or not, but even if they did they weren't going to do it in a hotel parking lot with no tools while on vacation. Just use one and pull but if 4wd or awd u need to get under and unhook stuff. Also rear end is low on a tow dolly so using both at same time would fix that issue as rear wheels are off ground too. @@CaseyLaDelle Agreed. And you get brakes in the trailer deal too. And what is a man without brakes? However, when I do an overnight travel more than a few hundred miles to pick up a dead vehicle the double dolly method has advantages. Less weight and wind drag on the dead head, less home storage space, and farm cart tracking. I suppose it would be called a triple tow? I use a 3/4-ton van, a swivel plate front tow dolly with brakes, and a rear dolly with 13-inch tires and fenders. Sleeping in the full camper conversion van is much more appealing for me than sharing the land with the critters. I generally pick up a couple of hobby cars a month from the 60's.
