Top notch as usual Gary! I really enjoy the fulkbtear down and diagnosis videos. I also ALWAYS upgrade the reaction shell even if it comes out ok. I also really like the Gil Younger No Yo-Yo kit in these units, not too firm but nice crisp shifts and seems to help keep the 3-4 clutch and band failures to a minimum. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Additional . 700R4's and 200-4Rs have the throttle valve cables. replacing the rochester carbs or throttle body fuel injection system with an aftermarket carb will result in a burned up transmission if the throttle valve cable adapter is not used.. www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetor_components/brackets_and_linkage/parts/20-121 or www.edelbrock.com/gm-transmission-cable-adapter-for-use-with-2004r-700r4-4l60-transmissions-8026.html the performance carbs come with the linkage hook up for a TH350 kick down cable.. without the adapter when you go to wide open throttle(Engine OFF) to adjust the cable it will pull the adjustment and leave the cable slack and result in LOW LINE Pressure that will do just what this transmission has experienced.. burned up internals..

Now from watching several different You Tube Channels ( SPECIFICALLY on the 700 R4 ) I am now recognizing the different generations of parts upgrades , that these " LEMONS " went through before GM finally said enough is enough , & thru it out the window !! I currently have a 1992 K 1500 Suburban that received a GM good wrench rebuilt trans, oil & filters every 12,000 miles religiously , B&M super cooler / Deraile deep pan , APRIL 2015 , now with 61,000 + miles on it , it just lost 2nd speed band " ILLEGADLY " & trans shop wants to do ( COMPLETE OVERHAUL ONLY ) , fluid pink like new / no brown / no nothin ??????? I CAN'T IMAGINE THIS " WHOLE TRANS " NEEDS DONE ALL AGAIN ???????? GREAT VIDEO , I SUBSCRIBED AS WELL !!!

10/ 4 ! Thanks for your feedback on this subject !! If they had a valve hang up in the valve body , or the second speed band servo piston blow the seal , they will " patch it up " to get the " come back " out the door " cheap " !! God forbid they do that for the customer . thanks Paul

Hi Gary I bought a 1985 corvette and the car was sitting for 3 years what I was told anyway I pulled the trans on the one I bought and when I dropped the pan it has the lockup solenoid and the two other sensors like the one you worked on ,so I went and purchased another one online but when I dropped the pan it only has the lockup solenoid in it ,( should I take out the sensors from the one I took out and put it in the one I bought online) oh one more thing the trans I took out was one somebody put in it I can tell by the yellow righting on it and the numbers are not there on it so I am not sure if them sensors were originally with that car.

Hi and Thx for a great vid! I have a 700r4 with shift kit and overdrive and it dont shifts as it should. But when I take it out on the highway and put the pedal to the floor it shifts 2,3 and fourth gear! Ive been told is the same 700r4 in Corvette, Camaro Iroc and Pontiac In 1989. It really goes up in high rpm before it shifts on the highway, so I guess the govenor is allright. May I Ask of your opinion? And yes I did subscribe to your Chanel. You make it look easy! Do you think it's possible to remove the pump, band, drum and 3/4 clutches etc without removing the valvebody? my trans won't shift to from 3rd to 4th and first place I'm going to look is the 3/4 clutches..

I have the same unit with that has harsh engagement. Is that something that can be addressed without a total overhaul? Problem is when it gets warm.

Gary, would a 95 Corvette be pretty much the same trans or is it more electronic at that point? I have a 95 Vette with a blower putting down about 480 at the wheels I can't keep a trans in the car and I'm not getting it hot. I think the way it downshifts out of overdrive and from 3 to 2 driving mildly aggressive say passing on the tollway whatever it's just burning up the 2-3 and overdrive clutches. First I lose overdrive then I lose third pretty much out of nowhere. Three transmissions in this car I'm ready to give up on my trans guy. He's always done good on all my other builds but for some reason I can't keep a transmission in this car. Any suggestions or thoughts as to how to build a 700 that could take this power? Or is it just the fact that one is downshifting it's slipping so much with so much power it's eating it up? I've always loved the way it shifts it's very smooth not aggressive on up and downs so it's very driver friendly. Can you help?

Wow! That was great. My '68 Camaro with a TH700r4 is in the shop now in a no shift condition. I was out for my weekend cruise about a month ago. I had a great drive to the diner but when I left all of a sudden I had nothing but 1st and reverse. Came home on a tow truck. I was hoping that the cause was something simple like a stuck governor or the TV cable but apparently not. At least now I'll be able speak more knowledgeably to the transmission mechanic. I'll post again when we find out the cause. Totally in awe of the design engineering that goes into these transmissions .... so many parts.

the 82 corvette probably has the early cross fire fuel injection system which is two 1 barrel Throttle bodies mounted in a stagger .. people open the hood and think its complex.. its the same as every other 2 barrel GM TBI system.. it does probably take the 5 to 12 pin rubber ALDL adapter for the scan tool to access live data stream and trouble codes. there are a bunch of things i do with crossfire fuel injection systems to bring them up to normal working standards.. an Autozone SU102 coolant temp sensor and pigtail to replace the coaxial version.. replace the pickup coil in the distributor, replace the capacitor harness with an autozone U518 or a ACDelco 19207437 and a new ignition coil in the top of the cap. hopefully all the other sensors are OK.. these are things i do to every crossfire that has come in over the past 25 years.

Way back in 1983, I had a friend who had rebuilt THM 400's & 350's overhaul his first 700, it came to him with a pump ring failure. He left out the thimble filter in the rebuild, since it was not needed on the 350. Oops! Do you also update the pump rings, & switch to 5 pinion planets on these 700's?
