Today’s video is of WR Castle Class 4-6-0 on the last of Vintage Trains’ extended Shakespeare Expresses! This one originated in Leicester and headed to Stratford via Nuneaton, Coleshill and then down to Hatton where it was turned. Facing the right way, she headed back to Birmingham, and rather than the planned route she went up the North Warwicks Line due to a signalling fault near Claverdon! Then after returning tender first to Stratford via Henley, she returned again along the North Warwicks Line, as planned, to Leicester. The weather for today was a mix of overcast and sunny spells and that’s what we got!
I did want to stay fairly locally today as I wanted to be in the area ready to watch the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain which we sadly went on to lose. To begin with I headed out from my local this morning at 10:27 and went to Rookwood Road near Acocks Green. Here I met @LiamsLocos with whom I was filming for the rest of the day. 7029 came absolutely storming through, with a lovely blast on the whistle as she got into her stride down the Chiltern Mainline. After this we headed to Tyseley to catch the 12:34 down to Wilmcote. 7029, although following a caution aspect, roared through to our delight with a whistle, shutting off and braking just beyond us. After that we headed back to my local, from where I drove us to Blunts Green foot crossing on the 1/150 section of the North Warwicks Line between Henley in Arden and Danzey! Due to the slack at Henley we were expecting some power, and again that's what we were treated to, with a bit of a shove from the 47 too. At that I drove us home.
Thanks to everyone who made today possible, to WMR, VT and NR as well as my company for the day! Thanks also to the crew of 7029 for the excellent show they put on for us at all locations. I hope you enjoy as I did!
