I just have the rigs you have to get it done like that..Awesome and yes lots of nice cutting and splitting on that red oak. Be safe out there and continued prayers...God Bless

One of the joys I get from watching a video like this is the prediction of which way it is going to fall. I have worked with my son on many a tree removal (many of them urban) where predicting and "steering" the fall is very important in those settings. Anyway, I'm sitting here as the armchair logger saying "yep, that's what she'll do" or "nope, that won't do what you think" and I don't have to deal with the outcome. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your life in this way. Look forward to every video.

Back when I used to cut a lot of wood for heating my house. Are choice of wood was ash. It was not as heavy a wood as oak but it would burn up into nothing but light ash. Today there is no ash trees left around here due to the big kill off. Please keep the videos coming as it reminds me a lot of my younger years!

Hello Mike that was one way of getting that tree down there too ive had them to hang up like that before here and I always just look the saw and started cutting blocks of fire wood off of the bottom of it and cut it out of the other tree till it fell the rest of the way down to the ground then I just picked up the blocks of wood and took them to the splitter from there too I know some people says its dangerous to do it that way but if you watch what your doing it's safe too now have a good day now and I'll be waiting on the next video from ya too

Had lightning strike one side of a twin red oak 15 years ago so I cut it down for lumber. I didn't have as much lean as yours. The other side is still making wood, healthy as can be. Really took off with the reduced competition for light and water.

My favorite (Alternative) intro so far. I'm going to go back and find out who he is and check out his channel now. Love the channel, but I'm commenting today on what Mike said about people commenting on leaving the tree leaning till morning. If you are afraid of getting hurt by falling limbs and trees then maybe you shouldn't go into the woods. I grew up in woods playing mostly, then by the time I was able to drive, I'd been in the saw woods for 2-3 years either running a chainsaw, skidder, knuckle-boom, and I was learning to drive a cab over International w/ pole trailer just after I got my learners permit. I learned on my uncle's saw mill and Dad's Cabover.

@nicoleahee 4 года назад
@@gsettlemyre Just watched his latest video I liked it, now I'm a subscriber to his channel as well.. I grew up with a diesel engine powered sawmill, with a cutting blade that was at least 6 foot tall. When my uncle first let me work on it, my first day, barely a teenager (summer 1988) he stuck me stacking 9"x9" ties. That was fine one at a time, but then he'd cut a big log, what we called a 6 or 8 shooter. Meaning i was getting up to 8 ties per log he cut. That was a workout. Anyway, drinking morning coffee and rambling on. Have a great day.

Hello Mike, Watching what you did on your hinge and notch, I would guess the holding wood for the hinge was small from what I would have expected. Granted it is oak, but the hinge looked like it broke right off. Broken hinge, no direction control. I would tried a taller step up and thicker hinge in hope for it to flex a little bit more. I looked at the winch website and same or similar model. I can't justify it so sticking to choker cables and tractor traction. ;-)

I think your step was fine and you should do that with every cut, its kinda hard to see on my screen with my internet connection at the moment but it looked like you didn't leave enough holding wood, which is the wood that should break away between your face cut and back cut, the back cut in this case was holding till final but it isn't holding wood.
